Modes ED "Beyond" Disappointing, anyone have similar feelings?

No offense but I think you've got more chance if platting dog poo than this happening.

No way they will be diverting all the staff needed for the free improvements AND a paid expansion from Jurassic park and Planet Coaster.

Next paid expansion will be Q4 2019 or 2020.(If ever)

Maybe, i don't expect a paid extension in Q4/18. But i do think they will switch to a model where they develop an extension in advance and sell it - old school. The alternative would be something akin to small DLC, but that is a mess to manage and balance, and not popular with players. With the announcement of 'Beyond' they bought one year time to develop the basis of the next extension, and i think the focus on fog&vapor&lightning hints towards a bigger update containing Gas giant gameplay at least.

But yeah, my main lesson from the past 3 years is to keep my expectations low. I am aware that FD have ofter rather under delivered, see multicrew or power play. But also the fact that we are still here speaks for itself.

I dont want to take anything away from what they showed us at the expo. And maybe with the content they had. It wasnt as important.

But they did not say anything about the problems that plague this game right now. Mission scaling and rewards. Risk Vs Reward. PVP and how people are effected by it.

Engineers and planet beige, the fleet ships are awesome though.

But if they dont pull the trigger, all we will have is massive PVE battles. Hardly engaging, hardly anything to do with the multiplayer experience. And they will be in the same spot powerplay is in right now.

I was hoping for core changes. But we got additions. Really trying not to be negative here. But the same problems still exist as they did before. Really kinda frustrated with it to be honest.

If I want multiplayer battles I play world of tanks.

Didn't read the whole thread...read a lot.

I like ED as a whole, dislike some the game mechanics, am convinced that FD is committed to the game, excited about Beyond (particularly the QOL changes to basic/core features, planet textures/topography and some "love" for exploration) and relieved that Engineers is being re-visited (can see why FD did it to un-clone ships/performance/weapons - but just grates with me)...

..and the OP is, well just wrong. Sorry OP, but you have really over-stated the whole ED is broken thing.

You have the right to say that the game would be better with this or that. You can say you're disappointed.

But, please, stop saying bad stuff about the people working on the game cause clearly you have no idea about what it's like and how long a complex game can take to be completed. Elite is still evolving, a 2nd pass on core gameplay is mandatory as we had only basic stuff for now so that's what they're focusing on. That's not all though as we'll also have loads of new ships, new weapons, new gameplay mechanics for trade, mining and exploration, planetary surfaces enhanced (corlors and shaders first, then localized "decorum" and effects). And squadrons ! I mean, this will probably be huge !

Then, as others suggested, take a break, come back in six months, after the Q1 update, and keep saying the game is bad then. Or don't. But i'm sick of the endless "fdev doesn't know how to make a game" rants from people who truly have no idea about how to make a game, but somehow thinking they know better.

Lots in there to like.

Nice rework on visuals
Better mining
Better exploration
More ships
Better missions
Not interested in player squadrons but that is fine I am not against them....

Hugely disappointed FD have still abandoned the NPC equivalents of all the MP features that are in the DDF.
I also wish FD had talked about the longer term future a little in broad strokes because horizons lasting 3 years minimum was unexpected.

So over all a mixed bag for me

More ships is not going to add gameplay, and I would expect a constant trickle of new ships anyway, so I don't consider that development news.

We don't know if the gameplay for mining, missions and exploration is going to be BETTER, you are just assuming/hoping it is. They said they were reworking it, we have no idea what form its going to take so have no idea if it's going to be better or not.

So from you list we've got a nice reworking of visuals.

Ships are most expensive thing to develop in this game. What made you think game without subscription would have constant trickle of new ships?

So basically you artificially choose what to ignore and minimise list of content. Well, that's your opinion, but well, it's not true.

The game gets boring very fast because theres nothing new in it.
The only logical conclusion to that statement is if you see nothing new today, after three years of continuous updates, then you will never see anything new.

i dont really see the point of doing that.
Do you see the point in doing anything?

Well. See you in 4-6 months.
Bye. Good luck finding a game that can hold your attention.

!!!SUGGESTION!!!

I've mentioned this a few times over the years, but will continue to do so. :p The non-steam patcher removes files from the ED folder even when they are not from FD. This could be screenshots, 3rd party tools etc. It also reverts a lot of stuff to default ini settings, even when there is no change in these files whatsoever in the update. This means I have to reset a bunch of stuff after every update. Is there a way for the user to prevent this? If not:

Yes, it always needs to be the opposite of what they are doing. ALWAYS. Amateurs! :D

That is because FD needs to fire more people. Or hire more people. These forums confuse me sometimes, something to do with ire either way. :p

Not at all. Beyond will address some of ED weaknesses, that is to fill out core game play.

The timelines / roadmap seem realistic, unlike Horizons which took a lot longer than anticipated.

I'm just disappointed that it will take so long!! LOL - Need to be more patient.

The problem with doing the opposite of everything you are doing is that it never stops and you don't get much done. We could also blame them for not knowing what they want..

I'm disappointed in the scope of the road map. I don't think it does enough to improve the game based on the limited information provided. I was hoping for a more root and branch reworking of core game play but it looks to me to be tinkering around the edges of a few core game play elements.

I'm skeptical of what will actually be delivered for each of the updates. For some of them they're pretty descriptive (e.g. Engineer rolls will be better than the last one) while others are very vague. I expect the vague ones to be delivered in their most bare bones form as that is what FD have done in the past.

I am pleased they are actually doing this though rather than just bolting on more bare bones systems, I just don't think it's enough and will be ultimately disappointing. Happy to be proved wrong.

Fdev really need to make a good impression here.

If they don't flesh the game out here, it's never going to be done so this is it for ED. Either the game gets some meat or it stays shallow and they'll just keep adding barebones mechanics.

If ED is still shallow after "beyond" I'm not sure anybody will want to bother with it much.

How can anyone even have an opinion considering the vagueness of it all?
Take the future of exploration, absolutely void of content if the expo recaps are any indication.
Why not wait for the releases, then complain?
Another example, USS. Is it a placeholder? Looks pretty permanent to me, but again, no communication regarding it.

See this proves FD can't please everyone because big pve battles and pve content would make me happy and where you see FD not putting love into the MP experience I sadly see them focussing too much on it

Doesnt change the fact there are still problems and im not the only one complaining about this stuff dude. There are massive amounts of people that see it.

Again dont think I dont appreciate what they are bringing to the table. But they hardly addressed the problems that we had before the expo. And they still exist after it with no mention of fixing them. Sorry man, the problems still exist. Even for you. You may not see it or understand it. But they do exist.

I'd still expect some onboard computer voice and interior sounds. Just not exterior sounds. Thanks for the fix. Remember to use the guillotine next time u get a runny nose ;-)

The sound is simulated through your ship - all the sounds are didn't you know that?
