"Beyond" free for Horizon owners - LEP musings

Hey Astral! This is a very reasonable and understandable post. Hopefully I can put your mind at ease a little.

In addition to all the content talked about at Frontier Expo, we also have some pretty cool things in the works which will be available to purchase. We're not ready to talk about them just yet so we can't give you any details but rest assured that the lifetime expansion pass owners will be looked after and will be getting their hands on premium content as part of their lifetime expansion pass before the end of 2018 and the Beyond series of updates.

I hope that helps,

Zac

Thats all I was after. Consider my "unease" eased

They did - at the Expo. They outlined a bunch of stuff that is going to be in Beyond (which wasn't an exhaustive list), and all those things will be free next year in Beyond.

What Zac is talking about is other unknown content that hasn't been mentioned yet - probably because they're not sure if it'll be ready by 2018 or if it'll slip to 2019. Development is fun. ;)

As to what that content is - we can only speculate. But everything that was mentioned at the Expo will be free to Horizons owners. Nobody's being misled as far as I can see.

I don't think Frontier are being deliberately miss-leading, I believe they have said things with the best intentions.

I hope you are correct and that a new expansion of epic proportions is on the way. However this could be interpreted as some of the beyond content being behind a paywall as well.

But there is other stuff that hasn't been spoken about that is coming during the year that is seperate to the beyond stuff that will be paid for, and LEP owners will pay nothing as they have already paid for it in advance.

How is that confusing?

It's not clear whether LEP owners will get ALL of it. The wording makes one wonder whether anything after 2018 will be included too. Perhaps they could clarify further.

Funny how for some interest for this game survives on controversy alone.

I didn't say that - Zac said that - and he didn't mention "epic". He said "premium". Who knows if it'll be "epic" or not?

Also, I really don't see what's ambiguous about Ed Lewis saying that all the content we've seen for Beyond will be free for Horizons owners.

That's how rumours start.

And that would be wrong exactly for which reasons?

Beyond is already Horizons paywall. There might be some extra premium content which is new DLCs, sold separately from Horizons.

What's wrong with that?

Nothing wrong with it at all.

However some of the player base are of the impression that next years updates will be totally free and we now know this is not the case.

This will inevitably lead to people getting upset when in 2018 the updates drop but there is a paid DLC for access to lets say the new ships beyond (pun intended) the ones specifically shown.

Next year four updates will be free. To lessen confusion these are updates talked about on FX.

Fact that there might be some extra for those with LEP and willing to pay does not even come into calculation.

Seriously, stop. No one will be upset just you.

I'll be fine whatever happens thanks I enjoy and support the game.

You however seem very upset that someone is expressing an opinion you dislike.

Everything that was talked about at the Expo is coming free for those that have horizons and some of that will be for non horizons players I expect.

The other stuff that is behind a paywall has not even been mentioned yet. These are completely seperate from the beyond series of updates. Does this not compute.

I am angry because this is how this noisy nonsense starts - for no obvious good reason. It adds just more artificial conflict and drama to community and nothing else.

People who paid for Horizons will get 4 new updates full of promised content at FX. Indicated by Zac there will be some new premium content to buy besides cosmetics.

Why anybody would get disappointed about that?

LEP should not equal "exclusive" content. Any content LEP owners get should be available for puchase via expansion or w/e they will be called by everyone else.

Just to clarify LEP owners should get any "preorder" exclusive stuff since LEP is like a huge long term preorder/prebought option.

Agree 100% here and I hope Frontier consider this.

Would agree with this wholeheartedly.

Even more so if they make the LEP available again, as I've never had the cash handy to pick one up previously :(

I don't think FD only thing FD offered to LEP owners was Horizons beta pass. But even that has been available at sale before two of four Horizons betas.

No, I don't see FD making exclusive content for LEP.

The 'E' in 'LEP' stands for 'Expansion'. I don't think that making up the value of the LEP with cosmetics would be a good move and I don't think it's something that FDev would try to pull.
I think giving away cosmetics to LEP holders in addition to the benefits we already have (beta access, expansions for free) would be great! But, I'd hope we also get other one-off "cool" pre-order style perks too.

I never liked the idea of exclusive ships because they can't make them anything other than average as it would be unfair to others. I have access to the CobMkIV but I don't think I ever flew it outside of the initial beta.
Indeed, this is the issue with exclusive ships. The MkIV is, quite frankly, terrible for all but a small subset of tasks and even in those few cases there are better options available once you earn a few more credits. It makes it rather niche/short lived as a vessel.

It really has to be something substantial which adds gameplay and is available to others for purchase or the level of meltdown would make offline-gate seem tame in comparison.
I don't feel like I need anything too substantial to be "happy" with the result. My initial thought was perhaps the LEP would give us a discount on the squadron mega ship, or something similar. Either free digital content, or discounted digital content, or perhaps access to buy exclusive (no longer on sale to the general public) digital content.

The issue with anything which enhances gameplay is the same issue as with exclusive ships, it cannot give a real gameplay advantage or it treads too close to pay-to-win.
