Star Citizen Thread v6

Thats an interesting observation. I am of the opinion that Star Citizen has good visuals going for itself....and nothing else really. No content, no impressive features nor solid mechanics.

Well...the main reason for that is because CR is prioritising content that by all rights SHOULD be developed during the Beta phase of development (ships for example) and developing them now do he can continue fund raising.

The game engine seems to ve a secondary priority.

Of course, one could excuse this when you realise that...to a degree...CIG need to do thus because, lets face it, even $160 million doesn't look like it'll be enough to finish what they want to do. And no publisher is going to touch this game. Chris has already sold it so they'd make nothing...unless they cancelled the pre-orders ;)

Of course, doing it this way means these assets risk becoming incompatible and so require a rework. It also can't be good for developing good code. All of which means development time and costs increase.

Which means he needs more money...more presales...more ships...

What a vicious circle....

But its looking good

Actually, judging from the GC17 demo, I was disappointed by how poor the graphics looked. Only the planets looked good...the characters looked awful.

But yes....SCs one big claim to ambition was its "graphical fidelity".

As it is though...its an empty game. It has no content or mechanics. That's because it's pre-Alpha but that really isn't an excuse. After 6 years of development, the game should be MUCH further ahead. In late Beta if not already released

Get outta here you hater, you know nuttin about game development, good games take decades to make, everybody knows that, take WoW for example....took 4 years to make and 13 years later they are STILL not done.....yeah :)

So in the last transcript from a couple of weeks back, Erin was telling the UK guys to take one feature at a time and debug it for the evocati builds.

In this transcript Chris is telling the same team to get out of that mindset and instead focus on putting finished ships and areas in AND debug it.

This confirms three things:

Erin is (still) the one who does actually have some concept of how to complete and ship a game.

Chris is (still) the one who hires talent and then spends all of his time trying to tell them how to do their jobs.

With that mindset at the top, the company is utterly screwed.

I feel a bit sorry for Erin.

He was quite happy making really nice Lego games (and making money) 'till his bro came along.

I think he went along with his brothers dream for a bit too long, and then he found he was in too deep to back out. I'd love to find him in a pub and buy him enough beers 'till he says what he REALLY thinks of all this :D .

I'd already seen a few in-cockpit in-helmet videos and I still can't get past those two blue searchlights which are for some reason mounted in there. I mean it's exactly what you want when looking out from an environment which will already have a low level of ambient light from the cockpit display panels into an environment that's predominantly black isn't it?

CR is getting his cues from movies, as opposed to... oh, say... actual space science. In movies, they put light in helmets, pointed inward, so the viewers can see the actors faces.

P.S. Should I spoiler these posts or something? :)

Seriously, if you want people to read what you obviously put a lot of thought into writing, start by trying to restrict your paragraphs to no more than three sentences.

Saying what you have to say as succinctly as possible is an art form as much as it is a skill.

Don't be a afraid to go back and edit your posts as many times as takes to cut out excess verbiage.

What to expect from CitizenCon...
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/citcon-featured-content/16174-CitizenCon-2947-Details

They dont have anything do they? I mean gameplay of the awesome 3.0 or showing off 3.1 now that 3.0 is good on its way?

15:30 to 20:30 – Five Presentations

Featuring many of the greatest minds from across the UEE, experience panels on the most recent ground-breaking research and technological trends in the fields of kinesiology, xeno-linguistics, privatized colonization and more with a special address by Innovator of the Year Silas Koerner and an inspiring look at the spacecraft being hailed as a “game changer.”

Are they kidding me or do i just missunderstand it as a powerpoint presentation for their biggest gathering of cultists in one room...wait of course there will be awesome commercials and snippets of videos for those presentations right?...Damn this will be a long day going through that. And knowing CIG/SC it will be filled with alot of lolzbuckets when everything brakes again while streaming live.

Beside that i am not happy for SC to pollute my country! We will probably already miss our climate targets...the scam filters are already in overdrive here...

I think he probably had a 'we're putting the band back together' moment, which I guess is understandable when it's your brother. Thing is, I used to know a couple of lads who were in a moderately successful band in the 80s; they got back together in 2000 and with the benefit of hindsight, what they should really have done is remembered why they broke up.

Seems legit. :D

Look on the bright side, it will probably be about 25 degrees in Frankfurt on 27th October with all the hot air blowing out of that theatre. Don't put your shorts away for the year yet!

Oh it's going to be utterly epic!

Ship sales for a "game changer" coupled with a keynote address of the importance of exploration in a pre-alpha with not even one completed system - with dozens of PC's available that have no ability to play what will undoubtedly be shown on the big screen, the server reboot every fifteen minutes and instances limited to one player, yet another pointless alien language when they can barely comprehend UDP, will have lulzbuckets exploding everywhere.

Star Citizen Threaders..
The thread(s) are long and also a mix-up of fact and opinion, which is normal and OK. But...

Can someone please tell me; if I installed SC tomorrow [I bought my way into the game with Cutlass, way back] irrespective of bugs, poor performance and whatever else, put simply - What can I do in game, right now?

Please and thank you!

(last time I installed SC I could view my hangar, do some free flying, a ring race and not much else)

What can I do in game, right now?

If you don't have it installed - nothing :D

You can fly around a bit, visit a few locations, pew-pew, flick some switches, admire your fishtank, race a bit (I've never seen this part), try on clothes, play COD, get lost in a dead shopping mall, hide inside someone elses ship, and explode into a horrific tentacle monster.

But it's a GAEMCHANGER! It will be such a ship that never been done before in scifi, it will make the enterprise or star destroyers looked like something that were imagined from the stone age in comparison. The ship will not only punch above it's weight, but would also punch the law of gravity to oblivion and replace it with a new law of fidelity that will be remembered as The Grand Vision of Genuine Roberts theory!

Indeed. Compared to any other games con it definitely punches above its weight.

Goddamit! Had to be one! :)

Thanks, I might take a peek on my days off. I'd like to check out the walk-around stuff. Do you mean like an adult anime tentacle monster? Because I didn't see that coming...

giphy.gif

Alot of citizen had horrible experience to create this masterpiece.
But this is from an older version of SC so i dont know if it still can get so extreme...

The tortured tentacle commando just never gets old.

It's very representative of CIG's development strategy. Move in all directions at once, but go absolutely nowhere, yet still announce that what you are presented with has never been attempted before, breaks new ground, and punches far above it's weight.

Personally I think that poor guy was trying to make the fibre reach the rack.
