Why is the new Krait so big?

I personally think they should have made the Krait comparable to the Sidewinder but maybe better at combat than the Sidewinder and less suited to other tasks and given us the option of starting in either a Krait or a Sidey. I am looking forward to this new Krait however, I'll probably test it out when it releases.

I hope its the scale that's been posted here taking into account the size of the cockpit, which tells me its around the size of a Python or maybe a little larger (definitely wider) with two crew members. I also hope it has an SLF hanger. I think what they've leaked looks marvelous. Right now, its the no. 1 proposed ship I want the most.

Judging by the video they showed, it definitely appears to have three seats/consoles:

And it's the same width as the Cobra, while being double the length:

Which puts it at similar dimensions to the Asp Explorer (but much thinner in cross section, only a little thicker than a Cobra):

Define small? Judging by the scale shot of it next to the Cobra III it looks like it's about twice the length and the same width as the Cobra III, that looks to me like it should still be able to fit on a small pad (I think It's the height of the type 6 that makes it require a medium pad, not the length).
[/SPOILER]

That hatch on the bottom looks far too big given the relative scale with the Cobra III to be anything other than a fighter bay.

IF its in scale I am pretty sure its not a small ship (I#d be longer and wider then an asp) - and then its indeed a fighter bay. Also how would height influence pad size - its virtually the only of the three dimensions which has no max.

Yeah, it's almost definitely a fighter bay - you can also see the cargo hatch on the model and it's much smaller:

(well, it could be a hatch covering some landing gear, but I doubt it...)

Looks like the Krait is around 50-55m long and 45m wide.
About the lengths or a Dolphin and the width of a Cobra.

It could still be a small pad ship - I doubt it, but it could be.
I guess it will depend on the height of the Krait. The front looks thin, but the back section looks thick.

I've never played nor heard of Elite anything prior to playing this game last year, but a few weeks ago I was reading a book about snakes to my youngest, and after reading about the black mamba, my mind drifted off to imagining the ship version of The Black Mamba.

Ah, yeah... the Mamba...

In all honesty in the old pictures of the original krait, it bears more of a resemblance to the F63 condor....

You know, if Fdev just said the condor was a core dynamics licensed version of the krait (like the imp eagle for gutamaya), then the oldies could have their ship, and it'd be fun if the new one does launch SLF, to pretend we were launching a krait from a krait. Kraitception!

I'm just fantasizing probably though.

Oh if they did that! I'd be switching from my Imperial SLF to the Condor. I'd be waving my shut-up-and-take-my-money credits at the shop assistant. <grin>

Wait, some people think thats a Fighter bay on hte Krait? C'mon, thats for the SRV, having a fighter bay but no srv capability would be weird.

Thats probably what makes some cmdrs a bit confused about the size, thinking thats a fighter bay puts everything out of wack. Its the small one from this picutre, not the big one, use this to judge the Kraits size better:

The big hatch is the fighter bay, there. I just spent a while flying an SLF from a keelback. There is no "srv hatch". The srv comes out of the cargo hatch. Also, the srv is way smaller than an slf. How else do you think you can fit one in a sidewinder?
