PvP How????

I was in my Cutter doing passenger missions in Open.
When I was interdicted by this Cmdr in a clipper, I submitted.
Then immediately boosted to get some distance till I could jump.
But within 11 secs, my A6 shields were down, and hull was at 0. Rebuy screen.
What ' engineered mods would do that to a ship that fast?

Flying straight line is a bit of problem even if you can run away fast.

How ever fast you think your Cutter is, Clipper is way faster. And I believe A6 shields give you something just shy 1000 MJ, right? Well, 100DPS is very possible on a Clipper, so... My condolences.

Ok, I understand the shield aspect, but to go through the shield and hull that fast?
Keep in mind, in about 11 secs, shields were down, and hull at 0.

You are flying in open with lower than recommended shields. There will be only one outcome, given enough time.

Welcome to the PvP community, hope you had fun.

Buy some shield boosters, ditch che chaffs (They're very much useless on big ships) and engineer the biowaste out of the shields so that you can have ample room to keep calm and not panicking when you'll start burning from thermal damage.

If you're going down very fast remember always to high wake (Jump to another system instead than supercruise). You won't be disrupted by any mass and you'll escape faster.

Yea, open always dictates highest possible shields, and ample resists across the board. Don't be afraid to engineer shields and boosters either!

If I do trade CG's in my Cutter, I always go solo or private group just because of the weak defense..
Especially after I almost lost that ship to a frikkin cobra commander once!

6A Shields - too small for that enormous behind!

Cutter has a Class 8 Slot that you can put shields into...

Thus negating pretty-much any reason (other than combat) to fly the ship in the first place.

I can't help noticing that every reply to this thread has focused on what the OP might have done wrong, rather than attempting to answer the actual question ASKED - that being what sort of weapon mod's might allow a Cutter to be destroyed quickly?

To which, the answer is that a whole heap of weapon mod's will allow for that sort of damage to be inflicted.

Like it or not, the Cutter and Corvette are juicy targets in Open.
If your ship isn't built for combat you really need to pay constant attention to your scanner (which you really should be doing regardless) and be prepared to jump to a different system if anything even starts to look dodgy - such as another CMDR changing course or starting to move around behind you.
As soon as you enter a system, try to scan every player ship, see if they've got an FS interdictor fitted and be VERY wary of ships that have.

Reason? You can't make a profit trading if your ship's floating about in smouldering pieces. Running a poor shield is a false economy as OP has proven.

The reason for trading is to make a profit so run a proper shield or add up the rebuys.

Class 6 shields on a Cutter provides weaker shields than the same on an Anaconda (and the Cutter has about half the hull points too). The baseline Cutter does not come with Class 8 shields as standard for no good reason.

I feel your pain but IMO you were asking for trouble running a Cutter with 6A normal shields... you may have faired slightly better if they were 6A prismatic shields but even then the shields will be weaker than the baseline 8E shields.

If you don't have at least 10k Mj of Shields with 80% resist all and a matching hull, laser-honed reflexes and the ability to shoot down at least 12 Reverb Cascase torpedoes at once from multiple vectors and at least 4 SCB's...

That's Open.

I don't go there because it's like riding a pogo stick through a dog kennel. You're going to end up with something you don't want all over you.

Well. I was in the same situation many times. Not dying, but being attacked in different situations. And I most of the time have no idea, who attacked me with what. Last time in the CG in Open. High risk system, CG station. I'm coming in to the station. I'm in. Warning Torpedo! My point defence isn't firing. My shields 2000mj go to zero, my 1900 hull goes to 85%, station guns blow up something... i see nothing cause there are like 6 npc ships around me and my sensors show already the landing pad. Lol. One Suicewinder with the Reverberating torpedoes? Two, three? Maybe three, cause I had MRP? A additional normal ship that unloaded and logged before retaliation from the station? No idea.

The only info you are getting is his marked name in the contact list, if he managed to kill you.

That's pretty lame for a game with open pvp. You cannot really learn much, if you have no idea what happened. I was thinking maybe the logs show any details, but the only information with this time stamp is always "Playing combat music". Lol, very useful!

I would love a detailed combat log like for example in Eve Online.

In my opinion:

Mistake # 1: You failed at situational awareness. While the clipper is more maneuverable than the cutter in Supercruise, if you had seen them and evaded before they even made the interdiction attempt, you might have been able to get to port or jumped to safety without them ever firing a shot.

Mistake #2: 6A shields rather than 8A shields. 6A shields on a ship that size are pretty much navigational shields. They'll absorb the kinetic energy of a hard landing or stray debris, but not weapons fire.

Mistake #3: You ran away from them, where it's easy to shoot you. Your objective should be to stay out of their firing arc until your FSD charges, and then jump out. Ideally, you want to get behind them, where it's safest, but if you can minimize your time in front of them, you should be able to survive.

What you've just described ISN'T a reason to run C8 shields on a Cutter.

It's a reason to avoid flying a Cutter at all.

Personally, I've been running my Cutter quite happily with 6A shields - to the point where I've been accused of "cheating" (somehow) after other players have been unable to disable my ship.

Thing is, these days people are using engineering mod's intended to punch through shields and damage the hull and modules before the shields go down.
That being the case, you need to ensure you've got HRPs and/or MRPs fitted to soak up some of that damage and give you a chance to escape.
A Cutter with 6A shields and a decent HRP and MRP will be more survivable than the same ship fitted with 8A shields and no HRPs/MRPs.
And, of course, you get to keep that C8 slot for passengers or cargo in return for sacrificing a couple of smaller slots for modest HRPs & MRPs.

Puh-lease.

A 6A shield provides 440MJ or so in shielding. You need to do +-40DPS to strip the shields in 11 seconds. If you put unmodded fixed pulse lasers on a clipper you do 60DPS. Even a non-modded iCourier can get about 70% more shields than that massively expensive Cutter with those tiny shields. OP paid for an 8x more expensive shields than the stock 8E to get a vastly weaker shield performance. Its a risk you take, and this is what can happen. You dont need to do amazing stuff in Open, you do need to understand how the game works at least a little bit.
