Modes Elite Dangerous PvE vs PvP and who needs a Solo play if you had PvE server

There definitely are some issues with the whole balance in that a combat ship can take out a trader in seconds, even one that is armoured. I know of Rinzler's video on git gud at trading, but that's skilled people doing what they know. Even with a good rinzler approved build, most people will be space jelly regardless.
I have (just like Algomatic) suggested player-based protection for traders, kind'a like Fuel Rats. It would be great and really make Open interesting, but a bunch of things has to be done to make it work. First, there has to be some way of hiring people, similar to multicrew I guess. Hiring people for a wing. And then an agreed amount being shared (which I think it does already). But most of all, dropping into the interdiction. I haven't tried it in a while, so it might be better, but when we (family members) tried it earlier this year, it was terrible. Didn't work well enough to protect when it mattered. And if the attacker can take out a ship in 10 seconds, there's no time to drop in, pull weapons out, target, turn, etc. It might be better now, but I suspect it's not.

Salome was killed by a cheat flying an exploited ship packed to the gunwales with exploited modules, it wasn't legit and should be ignored.

You must ne joking, please tell me you are joking.

What SDC did was the greatest operation im the history of this game. It required them months of preparations to aquire the trust of the real protectors. It was brilliantly executed.
Thats what this game so desparety needs.

This is exciting.

Planning, team collaboration and execution,
by the book.

Take notice that noone was cheating the game, well engineer cheats sure, but it wouldnt make a difference she would be killed by a anything legit enginnered as well, we all know that.

And yet I heard that players consider this the most exciting and amazing game event in 20 years... And somehow it proves how great Open mode is... ???

To me, it shows how skewed ED is in favor of combat. The new C&P is much needed to balance it out.

What's needed is a way of hiring protection. For 10% of my profit, you guys are hired to protect me.

But it also requires a better way for the wing to drop in when the trader is interdicted.

I give you 150% guarantee that the neiw C&P will do NOTHING.

I agree with your hiring protection suggestion, would be a great addition.

If you can't survive a 10sec gank, your build is wrong. Plain and simple.
Get prismatics on the highest optional slots, g5 reinforced, few boosters mixed resistance and heavy duty, 4 pips to systems and I guarantee you will survive for 15 sec.

I wasn't legit, that's all that counts.

Alas he isn't.

Which is why that event is not as historic as you'd like.
I'll see if I can find the links that showed quite a few well known ED players were using cheat gear, if I do I'll PM it.
(No name and shame on the forums, so cannot post it)

Uh. No. To build a trading ship to be able to fight does make it strong and forceful and able to stand, but then it's not a trading ship is it? Imagine if the beer delivery trucks to the restaurants were done in tanks? One sixpack fits in there. Great, then you have go back for the next one... four hundred and sixty five times.

A gank, by the way, is a gang-attack. Which is basically a cheap, weak, cowardly way of attacking a trading ship. It shows that there's no skill or effort at all. Shooting fish in the barrel with a shotgun, or beating up small kids on the playground, is basically the same act of cowardness.

Stealing lunch money from small kids... how brave. And how skillful. What a mastery in the art of piracy.

Ok then. 15 seconds. Still it takes too long for your protective wing to get in and help out.

Somehow the wing has to be dropped into the same instance at the same time to give enough chance.

So he was riding a bicycle in space, with a nerfgun. And the 3,000 hyper-engineered defenders still didn't stand a chance. Because it was just so git-gud that no one can beat him. Oh, well. Still shows how little a large armada of defense would help.

Your wing can drop in the same time you get pulled over, if you're flying as a wing and not rushing off.

My friends and I do this all the time, I'm the trader and they escort. Before setting off I always ask if they are Nav Locked to me, once I get confirmation I move off.
I jump first into a new system, move closer to the star and turn so my engines are towards the star. This prevents anyone getting behind me, as they get kicked out of SC if they try.
I wait for my wing to jump into the system and we move away from the star together. Rinse and repeat for every star in the route.

If anyone tries to pull me over, I submit every time and my entire wing is pulled into the instance via the Nav Lock at the same time, as they are in range.
If need be, I can spin up my FSD faster as I didn't fight the interdiction and escape but most of the time my wing handles the threat due to dropping with me, not after me.

So if flying in a wing, using a bit of thought over how you travel, you can increase your survival chances.

Exactly this. Nav lock auto drops you to the instance.

It has nothing to do with this. COR trusted her to be protected by SDC, they didnt suspect he was going to kill her, 3000 or not, it was an inside job, they were betrayed, its not like some outsider came and killed her, she was in his wing.

We tried it earlier this year but had issues with it. We'll try it again at some point.

What did the rest of the wing do? Just watched? Or did they all participate and killed her?

Not sure about but I think she was in a wing with HP and other SDC members.

So it sounds like they were all in on it then. Shows that you can't trust anyone though to be hired for protection.

No, SDC manipulated COR into believing they will help them protect her. They were training together for months before the event.
It was well thought through and well planned. COR were completely screwed and betrayed, I think SDC ganked them all at Salomes funeral.

I recon SDC were used as unwitting stooges and the assumption from the start was that they would turn traitor. Intrigue and betrayal makes for interesting stories, characters like Gaius Baltar make storytelling better. If it wasn't that then Agony Aunt called it because Mr Magoo could have seen it coming.

Not that it matters thanks to the use of exploited modules it counts for precisely nothing.

I had a bet she wouldn't make it and it would be SDC that got her.

And I don't gamble.

Which is why I didn't bother with the event at all.
The whole thing bored me because I knew what was coming.
