Modes Why trade in open ?

you've never truly experienced the best part of elite.

Clearly you've not truly experienced the best part of Elite, which is exploration.
Billions of star systems, where you can forever leave your mark, for those that follow to see.

When was the last time anyone ever said "oh look, this is where Cknarf avoided interdiction".
But we all can see and know who the first person to Sag A* was, we know the first person to Beagle Point.
Heck, we also know who killed Salome.

Avoiding interdiction has never brought anyone fame or glory.
Exploration has (and treachery by Harry Potter, but mainly exploration is the best)

:p ;)

Well ...

These happen as well. I am not claiming what I described is the only way arguments pan out.

But you do not recognize the argument I described in these forums? You don't see CMDRs berating those who fly in Open because of the decisions they make like lining up in an orderly line because they feel it's the right thing to do? And you don't see CMDRs who decide to go into a private group because that suits them being accused of being greedy, stubborn, cowards and/or cheating?

Are you confident that's not how it goes?

Fair enough. But you attributed the responses you detailed directly to me as a poster i.e. 'this is your response'.

I'm sorry dude, but pointing my ships nose at beachballs of varying colour and size, which you sometimes dont even need to get within visual range to be 'the best part' of Elite.

Im not in this for glory, fame or honor or silly youtube hits.

Wow, you felt so strongly you had to post it twice :p lol

This was the point of my post (and reason for the wink at the end).
"Best" is a subjective term. For me the "best" part of playing Elite: Dangerous is spending time with good friends.
Having NPCs or other players interdicting me, is dull.

My friends and I do daft stuff and just be silly.
Sometimes we trade, sometimes we race to Sag A*
We've been known to Power Play a little for a laugh, see who can push the most tokens in 60 minutes.

For me, Elite: Dangerous isn't a game. It's a beautiful 3D chat room with some great mini games my mates and I can muck about with.

Yeah. I had one of my weird seaborne internet outages. Sorry about that :D

Sag A.
Jacques/Colonia.
Beagle.
Nebulas.
God knows how many systems.

My name is on a heap of black holes, unmapped neutron stars between sag A and Beagle Point, among other things.

Been there, done that, and it was all sooooo boring.

Nothing will ever be more exciting to me than the unpredictability of other humans in game.

100%

I actually wouldn't mind if this game had an actual exploration, what we have right now is some cookie cutter repetitive screen savers, which definetely look nice, but thats about it, its just an eye candy, there is no game in exploration, there is no dynamic content, its the same except few anomalies.

Space engine eats ED for breakfast exploration wise, atmo planets (even if basic), unlimited galaxies etc, and it was done by 1 developer.

Exactly my point, to YOU PvP interactions are the best thing in Elite.
I have been pulled over in Open, rolled my eyes in boredom and waited for the re-buy screen.
As it happens I was pulled by someone who was decent and chatted with me. Was a good encounter, but not the "best" encounter.

My "best" encounter was in the Mobius Group one day, bumped into another T9 trading the same spot I was doing. So we teamed up for the trade vouchers.
Had a right laugh, chilled out and made some cash.

Other people have their "best" moments out in the black, finding Earth like worlds, some winning a race with the Elite Racers (I won my first ever race with them, was amazing. Quit while I was ahead, lol.). A mate of mine loved the work he took part in with Canonn Research.

Trading in Open is fine, if it's what people want to do. If they want to try and get a bit more excitement.
But it is not "the best" part of anything for many people and some folks play to chill out and relax.

My best moment was sending a Sothis Cutter to rebuy, that didn't have insurance and then listen to him wail over comms at the station.

I like to think that through education on how the games insurance system works, I helped him become a better player!

This begs the question .... why the hell did you do all that when it was all soooooo boring? You'd think after Sag A you'd have realized it wasn't your thing?

I know, I've been to Sag A* twice for Hutton Truckers events and most of the way there a 3rd time to help someone doing a Hutton Truckers event.
That was enough exploration for me, learnt my lesson. Don't need to go to Jacques/Colonia, Beagle and various Nebulae to take a hint.

Also, is there a Hutton Truckers event this year? I've not look!

I suspect they're a little busy getting excited about moving cargo to those wrecked stations.

They did do a trip to Jameson's cobra last night though I think.

Just seen an ad on their FB for 12 mugs of Christmas, but no info on it.
G.I.M.P.P. events are great, but wasn't sure if I'd be able to do one this year with how much time they take.

Be glad when this year is over, it's been another weird one. Apart from my own life being crazy,
2016/17 has been nothing but celebs dropping dead or being shown to be pervs / horrible people.
(okay we kinda knew this, but it wasn't front page news all the time).
And Brexit turning people against each other, while our "leaders" just show how incompetent they are.

And I just found out Dave Gorman isn't making any more Modern Life is Good-ish.

I really hope 2018 is better. Not sure my sanity can take much more.

Perhaps Santa Braben will bring us something nice for 2018 :D

On my way to Sag A I started to get very weary because my only goal for 27KLY was getting to Sag A. Dreaded the way back as well.

When I left Sag A I started wandering, not going straight back to the bubble, but rather looking for sights to see, typical stars and checking out systems more thoroughly. For me that was the revelation there's a difference between traveling and exploring. One is trying to get to some place, the other is looking for shinies and oddies. I just needed myself to be allowed to get distracted. :)

It may be boring for you, but not for me... so you pvp and have fun, leave me alone and let me explore... we enjoy different aspects of the game. You do not have to participate or like exploration, and I sure as heck don't have to and refuse to participate in the pvp activities that you enjoy.

My best Moment was when the game glitched and I lost everything. FDev gave me my clipper back but not funds or cargo... so A few friends had me go to Hutton and they filled my hold with mugs. Another was when I helped a newer player but giving them cargo to sell so they could upgrade to a Cobra. Friends and helping each other. Best part of the game.

This actually confuses me. How can the best time of a game be hurting someone else. You try to pass it off as "education" but it was nothing of the sort. Explaining it to him would have been education. Mining salt ... is what some consider "best"?

Explanations dont work, people only understand actions.
Same thing in RL if you speed the cop wont "explain" to you, he will give you a ticket, this way you wont speed next time because it hurts your wallet.
