Modes Why trade in open ?

I like to think that through education on how the games insurance system works, I helped him become a better player!

Weird how you don't stop and think you may have just put someone off from playing Elite in Open (or put someone of the game outright).

See your actions determine their reaction. And GSPs keep whining how open targets are becoming more sparse. Think it over ;)

Explanations dont work, people only understand actions.

That may hold true for neanderthals, but the people I know quite happily have things explained to them in English and not in violence.

I try and play in open nearly all the time these days.

It's a higher risk, you never know if someone decides to take you out in a very, very few locations (including my home system). However, it really makes you stay on your toes, a bit of excitement, a possible what if? I have to say that the largest majority of players do no more than say hi or o7, only a very small minority want to cause problems. it gives the game a bit of an edge.

What is great is some get that feeling of risk in open, where others get the same feeling of risk in Solo or a Private Group.

Trading in Open in safety, is completely easy. To do so however, requires some skill and to sacrifice a little credits per hour.

This is why most of this games victims shriek about the dangers of doing it and being constantly ganked.

What is the advantage?

The potential of emergent content and the added depth of adding some risk to the game.

Now if you are any or all of the following:

* A low skill player refusing to improve.

* Unable or unwilling to understand that a shieldless min-maxed trade build, ( no matter how you feel the game shout adapt to you.) is unlikely to be able to survive even the slightest aggression.

* Do not want anything more than a risk free repetitive delivery game with pretty scenery.

Do not trade in Open, its not for you.

Stay in one of the easier modes.

"The potential of emergent content and the added depth of adding some risk to the game." WTH?

Emergent content is the same in all modes, except PP!
If you want combat action, play in solo. Trade and learn how to escape chain interdictions and make money doing so. If you don't want too many NPCs, play in open and you will hardly see any players. It is all a choice.

if your trade ship is ripped to shreds in 5 sec, you have no idea what you are doing, so better GIT GUD:

Ah come on, really? As simple as that? Just spend months and months grinding engineering, finding rng drops to create rng crafts to outfit a ship that's probably still beyond the buying means of a lot of players.

What you should say is, get collecting, get scavenging, get the svc and get driving around and around an around, get to engineer invites, get collecting again, get to the grind, and then, if rng smiles on you favourably, get a few extra hit points on your armour which might help you out if you come across a solo pirate who doesn't know what he's doing.

And you compress all that into git gud.

Nice.

And you forgot to menton that if engineering changes, the grind will probably be ten times longer.

Open is just a place to provide live targets for wannabe combat loggers. End of.

Your definition of collecting mats, grinding, rng signal sources overall engineering is what Fdev sees as game content.
If you dont like it you can blame them for introducing a grind.

In a multiplayer game, you have to follow the herd, otherwise you will stay behind, engineers are OP? Well blame FDEV and better start unlocking them because many others already did and have advantage over you.

Nope. Just adopt to the environment. Like I keep saying, unengineered cobras can get you out of most binds.

Running a T-7 with full shield boosters, a decent shield and military bulkheads likewise stands you in good stead.

I really want to have another open mode traders thread to discuss tactics et all... but it always gets pulled down within minutes from thinly veiled, mod approved mobius recruitment posts

Weird how you don't mention the GSPs that for 2 years kept saying "If you don't like it, go play in Mobius"
Yet when a mod says it, you have an issue with it?

Why would a GSP/Sociopath/Insult of the week post such a thing in a thread that was specifically about Flying a trade-ship in open?

I find “trading in Open” threads really useful for the tips.

What is never useful is some wag who almost always on page one says “play in solo or PG”.

It’s nearly as tiresome as us open only players saying that we are superior and “better” at the game.

For 2018, let’s all pledge that any Open threads about improving your chances avoid the “mode switch” answer.

Let us Open players, restrict our high horse mounting to only saying “we are better open players”

Deal?

I'll try and start a proper thread later tonight, give it some flair and pizazz.

Which means itll be shunted off into a corner to die

There's hypocrisy abound on BOTH sides of this issue. Plenty of mud-slinging from everyone here (including me) because of impassioned ideals.

People need to stop trying to change the game into what they want it to be, and let it be.

Modes are here to stay. Get used to it.
All modes are equal. Get used to it.

As far as "trading in Open", sure you can do it- but you're always at a disadvantage when it comes to those who get to choose the engagement to begin with. There's really no incentive to do so- anymore than there's incentive for any other activity that doesn't require interaction with other players. You could easily trade in Private Groups and still interact with other players. Only purpose Open serves for traders is to be cannon fodder for those who want to shoot ships, unless you want to do the same.

I'm used to it.
But about all modes being equal, you can't be so delusional to believe it
