News 2.4 The Return: The Type-10 Defender

Has anyone tested this thing out as a hauler/trader? What kind of optimal jump range can you get out of it?

I kitted mine out as a trade ship. Got 468t out of it with a 6a shield fitted, the rest cargo racks. I'm not much into engineering other than improving the FSD. Using 40 rolls of the dice with Farseer I got a 53% jump improvement....so I get 28ly unladen, 22 fully laden, which is fine for me. But the ship IS fully A rated so you could get a fair bit more range out of that. I just wanted a well equipped trader that could defend itself. Shields aren't great due to the ship mass and the 6a shields, but the hull strength is good. For a big heavy ship it handles very well. I'm happy with it, despite what many people say about it. But to kit it out like I did cost me about 460 million...and that's with my Founder/Kickstarter discounts from Jameson ;)

I'd say that at the very least this thing needs a Class 8 power distributor. Then it will be about 80% as good as an Anaconda at PVE combat.

Yes, the PD is the biggest letdown with the T-10... apart from that it's quite ok... not particularly good at anything, but usable.

I think a C8 PD is absolutely necessary for the T-10 for being able to compete with the big three, especially since its shields are rather weak. Just about 50-60% of my Corvette's with the same modules/loadout.

I quite like the design, but even that is mostly ruined by that ridiculous spoiler... I have really absolutely no idea, why they didn't release it without spoiler and put one into a ship kit instead.

I welcome every new ship because it adds diversity. As an upgrade to T9, T10 is good. Not good though against Thargoids and not good against the big 3. At least one or more of several things need to happen in order for it to shine, at least a bit:
- buff the ship: PD to 7 or 8, Thrusters to 8, even put 10 utility slots (remove the spoiler, damn it)
- remove the 4 AX weapons limit
- diversify the AX weapons to optimize for T10 hardpoints
- make the Type 10 a lot cheaper when fully kitted for Thargoids; now you have to be masochist to use it and not use an Anaconda.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah this looks like a decent ship for hauling, it's got a little better carrying capacity than a trade conda. However the jump range isn't as good

I am enjoying this ship and after trying a few load outs and avenues, have finalised its function as a miner. It moves around the rocks quickly enough with a top boost speed of 298 (G5 DD). I have three size 1mining lances together with 3x3a collector limpets, and they collect as fast as I can produce.
The rest of the ship is fitted with efficient turreted pulse lasers and a fighter hanger bay. It can defend itself admirably. All in all a very nice ship.

Flimley

I was flying around trying to get a landing pad at Tod's gaff when I saw a type 10 sitting on one of the large pads, have to admit it looks a good ship from above but i'm afraid I'll not be purchasing one soon.

V2k.

very disappointed personally

With 8 engines should have more speed and be able to turn quicker even with lvl 5 DD

PD is shockingly low level for size, grade 6 come on

Weapon slots OK but position questionable

Spoiler? WHY, simply WHY?

Shield crap for large ship

Feels like flying a brick

My hull is up to 6257 with grade 5s and military etc so thats not too bad but will cost on repairs because of the shields being so low, lot of damage as result or is that the master plan.

verdict: ugly brick with a spoiler. Could have been a v-good ship with tweeks to engine, higher PD, replacement of weapons, stronger shield. A let down really at over 600m with refit and engineering.

Come on ED you can do better than this, considering you've made this game. Give us some good ships. You had it right with Anaconda, cutter and Corvett. sorry but its true.
