Livestream schedule - Beyond Chapter One content reveals (dates, content and time)

The structure scan mechanic seems useful but most exploration ships won't have room to carry the controller for it, so I'm worried. Maybe it's for pirating only though.

There's no specific module for this, from what they were showing in the stream. It's using the data link scanner built into the ship, at least for the parts not involving piracy.

Here’s an engineering mod...

Limpet controllers that can control multiple types of limpets, at the expense of few limpets controllable at a time... Though, honestly, not a fan of the limpet implementation. Can’t see why they should expire. Fuel limit, sure, and you have to call them back manually, otherwise they just drift off, sure, but let us re-fuel them.

Okay I've seen the stream now. To followup on your question, I'm both happy and disappointed. It was a good stream, just not a good stream for me personally, not completely anyway:

  • The Cure for Beige - Well for three minutes we got to see some of the new planets. For me personally this is the most important feature of 3.0 so I was really hoping for more than that. We didn't even get to see any views from planet surfaces!!??!? o_O As soon as Ed panned over to the Chieftain in orbit and said "here is the star of the show" I knew then and there my hope for satisfaction had been crushed. :(
  • The Chieftain - It's a great looking ship, but it's another pure combat ship. With it's average jump range and five internals it isn't suited for exploration, or trading, or anything other than combat really. It's basically a smaller FGS but not rank locked and without the SLF. Or an oversized Vulture. Seems great for combat players as it gives them something different to fly. I was hoping for a Python competitor, so it's disappointing for me personally.
  • Tech Broker - Interesting concept, but I really hope they have more than just new weapons and cargo racks. Nothing for non-combat players to get excited about, hopefully we learn during the beta that tech brokers are more than just combat player content.
  • Trading Improvements - FRACKING FANTASTIC!!! This was awesome, Frontier has done much more than I anticipated they would. Super Fracking Impressive, and I can't wait to play around with this new system. They just might have actually made external trade tools mostly obsolete. Great job here.
  • New Megaship Gameplay - This looked pretty cool and was a surprise. It looked like pirate only content, so unless there is more to it than that I don't really see how useful it is for non-pirates, but it seemed well done. A new kind of limpet though? That I do not like, the number of limpet types is bordering on overly cumbersome now. I feel like this is an issue Frontier will need to address very soon if they continue to add new limpet types to the game. The structure scan mechanic seems useful but most exploration ships won't have room to carry the controller for it, so I'm worried. Maybe it's for pirating only though.

So yeah, good stream, but disappointing for me personally. I know Frontier is usually combat focused and never very interested in exploration so I shouldn't have expected what I did really. I still feel let down though, for tonight at least. The beta is a week away however, so I'll be able to see what I'm interested in for myself soon enough.

As for Planetary tech I understand the feeling, but I think it was intended to keep a surprise to players till the Beta. Let's hope so ;)

Nice livestream for me, lot of cool things (trade is really a hit ;) )

Hate to rain on the parade, but can't we please have links to the streams (once they are posted on youtube) linked in the first post? We don't all live in the right time zone to tune it...

Second, for the love of all that is holy, please chop the near 6 minutes of "stream starting soon" on your videos. It's a video that is uploaded, not live - get the work experience guy to edit it out. If more than 20-30 seconds of "stream starting soon" exists on the video, you're doing it wrong...

OK, venting done, on to watch the stream, and hopefully end on a high note...

Although I think it’s pretty easy to click ahead a few minutes on a YouTube video, I take your point. YouTube uploads these automatically after the stream. And that’s how it uploads them. We’re busy.

No you have a point - just click forward on the video - that was pointless moaning (there, I went there for you ;) ).

And anyway - I LOVE THE 'SHADER WARMER' MUSIC used at the start! It's awesome. I could listen to that all day.

Never mind the whiners - please don't waste your time editing that out!

I was also disappointed, especially as the planetary upgrade was -apparently- by far the biggest workload in the update. This kind of stuff FDev is still bad at - thankfully they excel in what they should do best, doing great games. :)

Next Thursday can't come soon enough!

Perhaps, but you never *really* know when it starts, resulting in constant back and forwards.

If it's an auto-youtube thing, well, the YT deserve the brunt of my frustration, and they suck :p.

As for you, Ed, stop getting distracted by shiny ships, and point at the planets for a few more seconds!!!

Sucking up to Ed won't get you a free Chieftain.

In all seriousness, it's very annoying, especially when you have a poor net connection (which, for about 6 months a year, I do, and I'm sure many have poor net connections all year around), thus, not pointless moaning. This is an issue in the broader streaming community, when you click on a stream that is already done, and saved on any video side, it should pretty much just start strait, with a 20-30 second intro, perhaps.

Stream is quite interesting so far, I'm liking the trade thing a lot, and I am not trader.

Interesting news!
Look forward to experience it all :D

It would be interesting to se some low flying/srv driving over a couple of moons, can't you put up a short clip of that Ed?

No need for commentary just for the look.

Loved the Stream, Steve deserves a commendation for his efforts.

The Planetary improvements look fantastic, excited to get down there in my SRV.
The Chieftain looks like a nice addition to the galaxy with some lovely design from the art and audio teams.
The Tech Broker sounds intriguing, hopefully in the future there will be more to unlocking things than just supplying commodities, etc.
Trade Improovements look awesome, looking forward to playing with these new tools.
The Megaship changes looked great, I can see so much potential with this beyond the pirate gameplay. I wonder if these points could be added to outposts also.

Excited for Tuesdays Stream on Galnet Audio, Engineering improvements and the 'more...'.

Great stream, looking forward to the Beta, along with the info to come in the next few streams.

Looking forward to seeing a quick SRV run, too...

That ship...ohhhh my!!! I think the Chieftain is going to be my new ship. Planets do look good, and the inclusions on the market trading look bloody good to boot. I cant wait for the Beta, I usually give them a whirl then crack on with the main game, now I have it Triple E I can focus on the Beta a lot more.

Release it on Sunday...its my Birthday, (it ain't, that was 13 days ago so a belated ED birthday present)

This was my thought as well. This stream pulled me in with its tease of planetary tech and then within a few minutes it was all said and done. I don't expect great improvements to surfaces yet as that is coming but even with the new textures on display and how they said it fed into the material makeup of a planet I expected them to go down and show examples. I would have taken just a bit more time taking about the planets and maybe even discussing more detail on how they reflect the material. Is it just different base on major, minor or regular volcanism, or do the types of volcanism play any part in that. And even if the surface didn't get improvements, with the new shaders and material reflections the ground should look much better. They should have just made one extra stream that was all about the planet tech.....but, aside from that I can see how the rest of the presentation was a knock out for those outside of exploration. The team seem to be really giving it all for these, considering this is just one of the small updates.

Alas, like you, I do not combat, I explore and so my morning went a bit like this.....get off overnight shift, excited for the stream in 5 hours, not sleep because I didn't want to miss those sneak peaks(totally my decision so I don't care about that issue), then it starts and first thing they want to talk about is planet and I'm all smiles, then one quick video and the pan to the chieften and like you I knew that was all she wrote about planets. They could have at least done more fly bys when the went to stations and the like, but anyways. One more week until I get to investigate myself.

Haha, that could have been 6 more minutes of planets. :) In all sereiousness though, it's not that bad. I have a terrible connection year round, being in the country. Why not use that little time to get settled in and comfortable for the stream. If you already are comfortable, do what you were doing for an extra couple of mintues and then everything will be right as rain. :)

Your point about too many types of limpet controllers is a very good one.
We have seen 3 new limpet controllers in 2.4 The Return so far, and one more in Beyond (I think). Outfitting and lack of internal compartments is becoming a real pain.

Hah, your reaction was identical to mine! My girlfriend was on the couch next to me, I was so excited to see them start out with the new planet tech. But three minutes later when Ed panned over to the Chieftain and the focus switched with the comment “the star of the show”, well I guess my reaction was something of jaw wide open and a look of disbelief, because my gf just started giggling and said “uh oh” out loud. My total sadness was devastating.

If I could change one thing about Frontier as a company, it would be to have them care about exploration as much as I do.

I felt the same, but then completely forgot about it as I watched the superb trade update. I think I will enjoy trading again when using these new tools.

Haha, my wife probably would have reacted the same if she would have been in the room as well. For a moment I was like okay, well maybe as they are cruising around they'll go to stations near planets and show them off but nope.

I mean 3 minutes of an hour and 17 minute stream dedicated to what is probably going to be the most pronounced change in Chapter 1 seemed odd. And while I understand wanting to see some stuff for ourselves, is showing a sneak peak of the surface really going to ruin that for anybody, especially if it's supposed to more closely resemble what we see from space....now if they were hiding some new features on the ground that's understandable, or maybe even hiding a new transition from space to planet but if that is not the case then there really was no reason not to have shown it and while I want to give the a pass on the whole time thing.....with the chieften did we really need to go into outfitting to explain all it's hardpoints, couldn't that had just been talked about while flying. Or even better, make the port a surface port and then land at it and go into outfitting, I'm sure nobody would have cared to go over another few minutes, it's not like it takes a half an hour to dock on a surface port.....anyways, again, the 25th is where I'll get my enjoyment

I felt the same, but then completely forgot about it as I watched the superb trade update. I think I will enjoy trading again when using these new tools.

I could have forgot about it as well if anything else would have interested me but I don't trade or engage in much if any combat so while it was cool to see it made no difference to me so instead I was just left waiting for them to do another tiny fly by or something

Q4 will bring exploration on her feet again, that's for sure. Q1 is just a response to the beigification.
