Galnet Audio: The most useless thing in the whole game?

So OP, I tested the Galnet voice just now and I can assure ya it as not wasted time by the voice actress/developers. You see, ED is still lacking the human/livin world feel. Adding simple thing like voice that reads the news in the cockpit tremendously helps with this issue. In my opinion not every part of the game has to be 100% game play wise "useful" we need immersion/ambient and a feel that we are flying in a living world. Its not much but a step in the right direction with the Galnet voice overs. I love the feature personally.

I will be using it as im sick of falling asleep at the helm because exploration gameplay is akin to watching grass grow. I also hear we will be getting different voice packs too. No doubt a paid store item.

There's a good chance the articles will send you into such a deep sleep you won't wake up for days...

I think you are so right. One of my favorite updates was when we got lights on the dark side of populated worlds. And then when we got CMDRs in the cockpits. Those are the details that really just add to the game. I think Galnet Audio is awesome.

I'm seeing lots of people "Sounds neat, I will definitely use this!", but they have no idea how invasive and annoying the exposition voice can be while playing an interdiction/being attack by a player or, well, any kind of action which requires a little bit of attention really.

I could swear I've seen an explanation that said Galnet Audio will automatically pause itself during interdictions/combat/hostile activity/etc.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I'm rather enjoying this feature. Dare I say even more than I thought I would. :) It's great for immersion. :D

Mainly I think it will be for people who want to keep up with gal net but don't like stopping the game to read it. Personally my takeaway from the livestream was, "god damn that's distracting". First I was thinking, "well maybe I'd use it in the SRV" but I cant, because you have to listen to this quiet little radar click and blip so you know that (nothing in particular) is ahead of you.

I like it. Gives me something to listen to and catch up on things with while out in the black. Keeps playing between jumps too, unlike the game music which would always cut out and repeat.

The droning might well get a little tiresome after a while, but I can just stop it whenever I feel like it.

I think it's a good optional feature to have.

Well, I gave it a fair chance.

I turned it on for a full 10 minutes in the beta, by which point it got extremely annoying and distracting, so I turned it off.

Don't imagine I'll use it much, if at all.

Feature itself is so....normal that it really feels like radio in car. Might be not everybody's dish. I enjoyed it a great deal, because reading GalNet isn't always possibility.

However that shows how good enough voice synth is for this. And that's excellent news. Yes, difficult words, names, planet names needs work but overall it is impressive feature.

It gets paused in case of emergency, and gets undermixed when ship voice has something to say.

Just one question - why? Seriously, why? IMO, this text-to-voice engine is the biggest waste of developer time. Do you really think someone would use it?

I love it and I even didn´t play till yet :). But I think they will evolve this for Mission Traders and material Traders in the future so a good start! :)

I was using it yesterday, when the cockpit voice or STC says somthing more important it fades (but continues) when somthing happens like you jump into supercruise or drop into glide etc while ladning on a planet it pauses and then continues where it left off

The voice is a tad robotic, with some odd pronunciations - It get's Thargoids right but Denton wrong - but other than that I am very happy with it.

I jumped in game, I "put on the news" I'm told the latest attacks by Thargoids, where the CG's are and what they are for etc. It feels immersive...just needs the edges smoothed a bit
