Siege of Sol in 315 days - Least Square Regression Analysis of Recent Thargoid Attacks

How would we protect them? We can REACT to the threat, but we cannot DEFEND against it. Wednesday night no Thargoids in sight, all is well at the station. Server goes down for weekly maintenance and when it comes back up the station is in flames. All we can to is react - evacuate people and/or repair the station. But unless I'm missing something or new game mechanics are on the way, I don't see any ways to actually defend.

Seeing how the evac missions had a basically infinite amount of people wanting to leave those stations I doubt there's any way even the most heavy counterattack against thargoids would have any effect.
Even if all commanders united and attacked exclusively thargoids for 3 months straight I doubt it would have the slightest influence on the development of elites story.
This game is on rails, and slow ones at that.

Nice analysis, but you missed some info. Until the 13th Dec attacks they were moving towards Merope - not Sol, so taht's probably not helping your regression. Thargies are attacking Aegis Labs, so we know where they will attack, and that the attacks are getting closer faster now they've cleaned out (most of) the Pleiades.

And once they've reached the last lab in Bhal who knows what will happen (especially as it will happen around the time 3.0 comes out).

Most likely next target would be those dodgy Alliance labs in the California Nebula, but if FD really had a twisted sense of humour they'd hit Colonia next.

I'm still waiting for Frontier to create something real out of the Thargoids beyond pew-pew. I'd like to see their bases in action, their systems, space stations. I'd like to see the Guardians making an appearance at last, to have their systems as well. I want to interact with the aliens in other ways not just shooting at them. And instead of Frontier deliberately destroying and disabling more and more stations they should - in my opinion - flesh out the game some more. They should also understand disabled stations will probably never be repaired because there are not enough interested players to haul enough commodities to do so. So the devs are effectively decreasing the play area by creating unusable stations. This Thargoid "war" was interesting for a while but it's really not going anywhere in my view. I checked them out myself but I don't need more shooting targets. When I'll be able to interact with them in new ways I'll be happy to do so.

There is lots of systems that are locked to humans so you never know! this could be a reality!

Tears well up, whenever someone mentions the plight of those PvP bro-force, horribad persons in real life. Lol. This persecution complex some have, is monkey wrenched into every conversation. I wonder why they expect those greedy shieldless traders to get a thicker skin, when they expose their crepe-like skin to everyone?

Ah well, I suppose that is just another mystery for the ages...

I think you missed my sarcasm there somewhat.

The odd thing I find is how it'd be the PvP communities 'fault' we're at war with the 'goids, seen as it's a purely PvE experience :D

I think FD just makes computer games. Hype is something people do to themselves.

I dunno. FDev did do a good job of hyping this, even getting someone as pessimistic and world weary as me to believe that the player communities actions in game relating to the Thargoids would steer how they interacted with us.

Meh, I’m not worried. I’ve killed my share of bugs. They don’t scare me.

Besides, the Federation probably has at least three top-secret AX capital ships waiting in the wings.

Yeah I really ought to report that as well but if I do then I might as well as say they are gonna hit Agricola Ascent next because in this hypothetical data cloud, it's the one that's oddly missing from the early days onslaught lol

Linear models are tough, and no accounting for other influences in the pattern. That said, lots of options as the path continues, and the new interactions introduced in beta will be fun. More expansion options would say that Sol will get active come July or sooner...

Everybody salty they don't see real time movie playing out before their eyes in MMO style game where no one has done that before in 'once done' basis.

Thursday mornings are funny, but being salty about something that clearly games aren't ready to do yet isn't.

I vote to blow up all stars in around SOL, so that 100Ly void bubble is created around it and our home system is safe.
We could have a CG to bring in as many tons of TNT as possible, so it can be later thrown into stars for explosive purposes.

And don't worry, we'll still be able to fly to Sol using FSD boost for 50Ly+ spaceships. Thargoids though - not so much. They can't engineer. :p
Check-mate, bugs!

We probably will get insectoid station some day if goids stay around. If I remember right they all are female..... and that's bring me to one question and actually the answers at same time.

The entrance mail slot. Welcome in the pleasure dome !

Games aren't ready to do that?
There's plenty of MMOs where threats on an epic scale played out live, in game, not after the devs set some flags after server downtime.
FD also showed that it is possible in elite, when a certain boy wizard eliminated a plot figure, too bad stuff like this makes it impossible to involve more than a handful players and it seemed to be a one time event anyway.
