News Chapter One Beta closure

Nope, neither 23:59 or 00:01 is midnight. Midnight is 00:00 if it starts a day, or 24:00 if it ends a day. Simple as that.

And yeah, FDEV better stop using that silly AM/PM system. The whole world except the US has already got used to the 24-hour clock.

Shouldn't the time be quoted UTC?

Even EuroSport is now listing it's Winter Olympic timings as UTC to help those Commanders who are out in the black or in different timezones.

FD will there be a closed beta before the release? i.e. there are a lot of issues / bugs that were reported.

Awesome beta. Only played a little bit, but think the new engineering will be great. Thanks for moving the game forward and improving it. And personally, I really enjoyed the last live stream with the crazy commanders joking around in the background. Not everyone liked it, but I did. So [up]

Looking forward to this update, but also all other updates (chapters) later this year.

What a clever launcher you have ... now when beta is over i cannot select the beta anymore in launcher and cannot click on "deinstall" because its not there anymore... But it did not automatically deinstall so it still waste disk space ... so it is enough to delete "PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER_64" folder or are there any hidden folders elsewhere i have to delete ?

Why remove? I believe that it's possible to avoid to re-download the complete game if we keep these files. I made a mistake?

Or is this possible so i better keep the files on my disk ?

That's what I would do. Keep the beta folder for now, then when it goes live delete the existing elite dangerous 64 folder and rename the public test server folder.

I’d say that’s a recipe for trouble; I doubt the launcher has been coded to handle swapping directory contents between beta and release like that. You could end up with an unusable game directory and having to delete it and download everything again.

Instead of doing that kind of trickery, just make sure the options “Enable Cache Check” and “Enable Virtual Cache” are both turned on in the launcher; then, when 3.0 release drops and you hit the Upgrade button, the launcher should be able to copy files over from one directory to the other. Worked for me the last time, anyway. Then, once the upgrade to 3.0 completes, you can delete the PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER_64 folder.

(Caveat: I am not sure if it will work if you enable the virtual cache now – I've had it enabled for a long time.)

This is why people doing change requests/working with the military etc would use 0000 or 1200, all times in 24 hour clock specifically because it isn't open to such ambiguity - well actually we used 0001 because people started questioning what 0000 meant! but you get the point!

This is exactly why i asked.

We've been doing it for years - it's even FD-approved:

"If you're trying to save a little more time or have a particularly slow mechanical hard drive that makes your installation sluggish, then you can theoretically reduce this installation time further as hinted earlier. Option A would be to copy the beta games over the top of the regular game files and Option B would be to rename the beta folder so it becomes the main game folder. This may reduce your total install time, though the launcher will still validate every file on any update which can take some time."
