I appreciate that the OP is trying to experience the game from the other side - but I think he missed the coop side of PVE completely.
I do think he pointed out a real flaw in the game itself, in that there truly are easy mode options for credit collection and combat. There aren't a whole lot of heart-pumping mechanics alive right now (aside from thargoids - but you have to gear specifically for them, and it's a moving target on what gear works).
I just spent an hour in a High Intensity conflict zone with an ieagle and did not get touched. Turreted long range medium beam laser, sturdy guided missile rack and a sturdy rail gun. Everything engineered G5 ish (some perform better at G2-4 like pp), but I felt like I was out for a Sunday drive. The flight model was enjoyable, but I wasn't surprised at any point as horde mode commensed.
It would be nice if something interesting happened like the shields failed on one part of my ally cap ship and I had to chase off attackers there, or a special notorious ace popped in with orders to assassinate me or another npc, or there was a dignitary transport with failed engines needed guarding, or a suicide bomber run was about to hit the bridge, or a thargoid scout popped in making a CF of the zone, or someone used a nuc and we all had to run to a new location, etc. etc. etc. BUT these things don't happen.
I suppose this lack of variation and challenge is what makes pvp so much more interesting for the pvp survival crowd.
