Cool.

From the looks of the cockpit its the M50 doing some kind of planetside racing. So perhaps the M50 will be AC ready at gamescom? Looking forward to the livestream!

Any one taking bets on how bad all the other ships will be at racing vs a M50? So much so that there really is no point? What are the odds that CIG will put in brackets for the different ships, heck what are the odds its MP?

I expect that the ship with the best top speed will win.

They are very much open for business, so commentary about their business practices are valid. As defined by themselves their sales is their main and favorite topic of conversation. A month can not pass without further boasting about it as if it's a benchmark for something other than a priority on marketing focus and the hand of zeitgeist. The evidence is this department is clearly central and calling the shots. Take one look at AC I have no doubt they are proud of their ability to sell junk for a fortune. In either case the vision is clearly serves the sales rather than the other way around. It is driving the strategy as such they are acting exactly like the publisher they love to disparage. They are in fact taking publisher practices to whole new levels of commercialization. I have no doubt EA are taking careful notes. "You're kidding me?! Making how much per head?!??!". In either case the net result is the same frustration for many backers as experienced by being a customer of the worst debacles from EA, Sega or any other publisher with a shyster track record you care to name.

Personally I don't think that if they're still making money then it's a working business model - if the money stops coming in then it's time to revisit

Long time ago whatever Chris Roberts was he is now very much an opportunistic and ruthless businessman in the sense that whatever he may have said to attract a group of backers can easily be swept under rug and them along with it, if an even larger more lucrative group of backers comes with his reach. In a nutshell this is the story so far and the source of the dissatisfaction with CR. You don't need to be Colombo to see this or that making the Best Damn Space Game Ever has nothing to do with it.

I dunno - unless the end result is a complete sham and everyone is unhappy it seems premature to slate CR...

As for a difference to how CIG and FD (along with many other companies for that matter) go about their business, no doubt and thankfully there is a huge difference. As I have stated before, I see no evidence of a significant group of dissatisfied ED backers all consistently making the same points in terms of the difference from the narrative during the successful kickstarter stage and what has been revealed to be the direction and game plan subsequently. Ironical, of the two companies it was FD who had more justification for changing their tune and letting down the original backers in favour of a more mainstream audience, considering it was their kickstarter that was underfunded, yet they did not. It speaks volumes about DB and FD.

Without actual numbers it's pretty much an 'assumption' that there is a vocal 'significant' at all - If you go looking you can find dissatified people all over the place - the simple fact is that some people don't have patience and expect results NOW DAMNNIT! You can't please everyone fairly can you?

Now, before I come under threat of being 'redacted' again. I'll leave you guys to it.

Yeah you're more likely to get a smack on the back of the hand for using such terms to be honest ;)

I'll agree with you on one thing. Lifes to short for this. Going forwards I'm going hang out in UEE refugees and start getting back into playing games more :)

Also that comment, I edited out because it occurred to me you/someones else might not realise it was an inside joke we were having following a mega-typo a few days ago.

All good mate - I really hope that the marketing push doesn't inadvertently breed discontent with SC - there is something to be said for expecting a great deal more when you spend a great deal more. There has to be a point where someone looks back at the money they've spent and the final product and asks themselves - did the spend get justified by the result? I know I paid what I did for ED because I've been a die hard for years - to me the end result is worth the investment and to be honest the enjoyment that I've gotten from even the Beta has me pretty happy. I can't imagine spending thousands and getting the same result from a game but that's just me.

(to anyone reading - this is MY opinion and not FDs)

Ben also says that the plan is to sell credits and not ships, however, if it turns out that people want ships to be sold and not credits then they may offer ships for sale. Ben acknowledges there's a lot of push back to selling ships however, so we'll have to wait and see.

Why am I not surprised? pfft

Just makes me think of Pinky and the Brain episode were they build a casino and they use the most expensive wood on the insides of the walls. A place that no one would see. Because of the unnecessary spending they run out of money.

CIG is doing the same thing with SC.

They're like a duke box...So many different tunes. And the hits just keep on coming.

I'm happy to bet there will be a new dedicated racing variant.

The M50 is a focused racing ship that can also be used as an interceptor. If there will be variants which I don't expect it would be for other roles. And since I don't see what other role the M50 can do I don't think there will be any.

I've observed before that there seems to be two diametrically opposed development styles going on with ED and SC - ED is building a universe to put stuff in, SC is building stuff to put in a universe - they seem like the two logical ways to approach a game development?
I wonder which way is better, if at all? Does one way mean you end up with richer content but perhaps much further down the line, for instance?

Uh it has no weapons whatsoever... What ya gonna intercept them with? By ramming?

I know it looks beautiful, but really, after you've spend 80 seconds walking from your ship(s) to your home (fish tank), three times, you're going to want it to take just 1 second surely :S

I dont know how its in the final game, but you can already now simply go to options and start arena commander from any point of the hangar.
