Sense Of Scale

Because it is very easy for the viewer to assume, that this video contains upscaled, beautified gameplay, which it doesn't. And, to tell you the truth, I feel they're taunting us a bit here. Maybe space legs are not that far off now? Whatever.

If someone somehow manages to ignore the trailer title you are right. But I honestly don't care for people who ignore the world around them and neither should you. ;)

Your allcaps KNOWING is based on the interior, which I already discussed as potentially being shrunk to fit in all that long-distance space travel stuff, without appropriately redoing the exteriors in terms of hull detail. That's my contention in the first place.
You are talking out of the wrong end and making a complete mess...

I have NEVER needed to actually see the interior of the cockpit to understand the basic principles I have outlined. It is the height of stupidity to make the kinds of assumptions you are making based on external detailing given that you can actually see through the window of the cockpit from an external in-game view.

The point being, if you can see the external detailing you can also see the scale of it relative to the internal detailing too.

Maybe look at the internal details of a Diamondback then? The things that look very much like handles but are way out of the pilot's reach and several meters apart, meaning the pilot can't really grab 2 of them at the same time? Or the keyboard that is so far away from the pilot's chair that even if it swung around on its mount it would still be out of reach? Or the super tall pilot chairs that actually have a built-in lift to even be able to climb into? (as seen in the new Krait trailer)

I'm not saying that the scale of things is incorrect, just that it is unclear and in some cases downright misleading.

BTW, when you make a product and a significant amount of customers don't understand some aspect of it, is it a fault of the customers?

You ask about scale in Elite Dangerous?
This is me fuel scooping a star in my eagle...

Same time here but with full zoom out on camera...

And if someone ask... YES! There is Tesco banana in my cockpit. Can't you see it?

There are some techniques to help "feel" the scale in this game. As I mentioned earlier, speed / acceleration and proximity play a huge role in perceived scale. Behold, the MIGHTY SIDEWINDER!

There just aren't enough things in this game that we can relate to to help us with sense of scale. Star Wars did a terrific job of this because there was so much detail in the ships and and death star. Most of the ships in this game lack detail and the meters-long smooth bulkheads don't help. The real throw-off is the pit. Once you get it into your head that the cockpit is the size of a room, with cockpit glass 5 meters long, it's easier to grasp. As far as the stations, the only thing that helps me are the little trucks that go around the circumference of the station. The palm trees in tourist stations help too.

Yes, there are definitely ways to get a better feel for the scale of these ships:

Behold, the mighty Sidewinder!

Minecraft style. That's an approximation of my house beside it. ;)

On an unrelated note, just learned that AIM-9 Sidewinder ;-), a popular Air-to-air missile is three meters long. Now picture one standing beside you. It never looked so big in movies, and even in DCS World VR it doesn't look that huge. Until you eject from the cockpit and land near your plane on the runway to be able to "spacelegs" ;-) pardon, "dcs feet" stroll around the plane ;-)
