What, really?
Ooh, burn!
Releasing other major updates. The Next update merely turned the game into what they'd originally be promoting, inc multiplayer (no matter that Eagleboy refutes its existence), and... other stuff - still no orbital mechanics unfortunately (which leaves me disinterested in the game so not really sure why I'm defending it). I do know that in the two years they reduced the grind, improved the flight model and introduced SRVs (of different types), big cruiser ownership and base building thru three different updates, Foundation, Pathfinder & Atlas Rises (which I believe introduced a 30 ish hour plot with storylines and quests).

You're a bright ray of sunshine this morning!
Just wondering: how are the orbits of planets are coming along in NMS?
Unfortunately that policy is in direct opposition to players who want to know what planned features are in development for future updates/expansions.Well, if they are unsure about a feature then just keep it under the rug until they are confident about its implementation.
Because you enjoy it?Do you know WHY I've been so visibly vocal and it looks like I'm the "only one complaining" for four years?
Orbiting planets sounds like an exciting gameplay feature I guess. How's the sunrise and sunsets going for Elite or is every roid still tidal-locked? And the atmospheric planets? And plants? And wildlife for hunting? And caves - yes, simple caves? And even digging a hole in the ground - can that be done yet? And persistence for things like fixed objects to revisit? And player bases, building, moving - how's that coming along? And the different vehicles one can drive? And the dynamic weather? And the differing biomes? And the continuous transition from space to landing (continuous not "seamless instance change") coming along? And how's the getting out of one's ship coming along? And the walking/running? And the owning of freighters? And the fleet management? And the NPC wingmen for defending against pirates? And the in-game voice chat working yet? And the built-in guides for material and crafting? And the real chained missions with depth? And … Aw, forget it as there's really too many things to list here as a response! Just joking around here but you did ask for it!
But yeah, orbits. It's terrible gameplay without it!![]()

I've been playing No Mans Sky recently and noticed that the rate at which the bugs are getting fixed compared to Elite is nothing short of a miracle. I was looking at the patch releases here
https://www.nomanssky.com/release-log/
and how many bugs are being fixed in such a short period of time and it really puts ED to shame. They actually seem to take the bug reports from players and fix stuff within a few weeks even the small issues yet Elite has bugs and games issues that are still around from years ago.
What are Hello Games doing differently and would it be possible for Frontier to maybe learn a few things from over there with regards to how development and bug fixing is tackled?
Would it be worthwhile Frontier assigning some more resources toward fixing game issues rather than releasing yet more weapons that I personally don't really care about?

The last major release by FDev (Chapter 1) had 1000 fixes. There were then 4 patch updates in the next 4 weeks. Comparing what is fixed is somewhat different as that does depend on complexity of the bug and game in question. I'm not saying Frontier can't do a better job or that some bugs shouldn't have been fixed - just that comparisons between games are largely useless without detailed knowledge of what's been fixed and how it works.
I suspect (just opinion) that Frontier see a complex game with different areas of development as being reason to leave some bugs untouched. That way when code bases merge at some point they can look at fixing them knowing they're on the same page. And yes, invariably new bugs will appear and old ones resurface.

Replace all that's in the game with all you've listed and people would complain about what's not there. It's almost as if stuff takes time, can't be done at once and arrives piecemeal?
I'd rather fly spaceships with HOTAS.
So, about my question... do you have an answer or is this just an excuse for a rant?
Without orbits there is no space game. It is like base 101.
Sure there is. There's probably plenty of ED players that don't even notice that the planets move.
I couldnt care less about coding or those who argue something is more complex or whatever...bla bla bla excuses. If I buy a car and it breaks down, Im not a mechanic and I cant be bothered listening to how the car was originally made or why recurring issues are the fault of other issues. If a garage started explaining all that jazz about my car, Id likely fall asleep or start chatting up the receptionist to pass the time.
Good thing is you can! Right now! Choices are great. But still, Elite could have been more than flying a spaceship and pew-pew. Hard to imagine for some - even those with great imagination skilz!![]()
