BREAKING NEWS: GNOSIS STRANDED, GALNET NEWS!

After five years, my dude, you kinda see this coming. Frontier have a way of doing. And this is just what they do. Far too many people are very good to frontier and support them and take endless crap like this on the chin.

They, we, just shouldn't have to. Not any more.

I posted some heartfelt stuff here tonight. Really exorcised an Elite related demon on these forums. And I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who put up with my crap, and especially to those truly deserving players who actually READ my . My heart goes out to the believers tonight; you dont deserve this. Any of you.

I will leave off for bed on the US East Coast here with this thought: IF - and I stress IF - this turns into a Bog Standard CG tomorrow morning, then folks...deep breath...lets be real with one another: IF that happens, on top of this fiasco...well, in mountain country, rivers have this spot called a "fall line." The Fall Line is the point at which a river loses so much altitude, in such a short distance, that the loss both becomes noticeable, and makes it impossible for the river to ever again reach the heights at which it began its run.

And if this turns into a CG, well...I think its safe to call that Elite's definitive "fall line." I mean first we got the post from Brett, which, I still see as a confession that technology literally cannot produce their promised game. Then, we had Zac: No major content for this year. NO LEP content for this year. And literally nothing but a planning stage on the horizon. And now, we got this...fiasco.

Call a spade a spade, folks. Because from here on out, continuing to support this game, gets you no more nor less than you deserve. If thats somehow a miracle turnaround, fine, we will all meet back here and rejoice while I shout about how delightful it is to be wrong, occasionally.

And if its just more of this, well...if you're honest with yourselves, you will admit that, yep, you deserve that, too, from this point forward.

Think carefully before you buy your next paint pack. Remember the Gnosis.

If this is a damp squib, then I agree. I'll push for that final Elite rank in combat and be done. It will be complete in that sense at least.

Gullible as this may make me, and hypocritical as it might seem...I would buy another Elite game. But ONLY with conditions:

1. Offline. Single player/coop. ANY Online requirement, and its a Hard Pass.

2. Mod support. And I dont mean just hacking numbers and settings for small tweaks. I mean REAL mods. Content. Ships. The whole Bethesda-sized Enchilada.

3. A FINISHED. Product. Period. That means they make the whole base game, delivering on their promises and fully fleshing out the mechanics BEFORE release. NO exceptions.

4. Player Agency in a Sandbox Mode. That means a living, breathing universe. One that remembers me, reacts to me and the things I do (or dont) and changes as I play.

5. A different Lead Developer. Sorry, this one had his chance.

Deliver on these things, with this or a similarly sound flight and sound model, and I would happily buy in. But do another big, online only, MP "space sim" with an Early Access release, and I will just blacklist your website and forget your company even exists.

x4 coming soon

Which is why Elite needs to go open only

Tomorrow’s news today, eh?

Well, that’s a big let down. Kinda had a feeling that this would happen, though. Hopefully FDev will recieve an enormous amount of flak for it. Bad decisions should not be rewarded.

Way to pull away that football Lucy... I mean FDev.

The only thing that could make this better is if the CG reward is a Deep Space Portal that opens up on the other side of the Cone Sector and then we can go there freely to fight Thargoids or explore without being stuck waiting for a Megaship to fly us back to the bubble.

If this turd sandwich is really what we get after all that buildup, much of which FDEV themselves promoted, then I'm done playing this game. At some point, us Charlie Brown's get tired of trying to kick Lucy's football.

It's kind of impressive, how FD took a grand opportunity to engage with the community and create engaging content with little effort, and then turned it into an epic disaster of their own making.

I mean, all they really had to do was to support a player-led event. The most dedicated players in this game invested large amounts of time and resources to this, there was a lot of excitement over this. This is such a gut-punch to the community, such a lazy and poorly-communicated failure, that I fear for the game now. It's going to be hard for FD to regain trust after this.

I dont know. I hope they didnt. Knowing this would have been heartbreaking. It's the antithesis of everything they stand for.

Frontier I think need to call time on elite. Either take the lessons learned a build a game, and not a monument to Braben.

Or just go into the long tail, stabilise elements and let players poke around for another year or two then call time.

It's like a TV series you know should go out with a bang, that limps on and dies a horrible slow death.

Kofeyh... Over the years I've not always agreed with your opinions on the game, although I generally respected and understood them. However, I've noticed that over recent months you have changed your feelings towards the state of Elite. And you're not alone. To me, this says more than a million complainers, that things really are becoming unsustainable, and it is very, very sad.

I think, and not just because of this latest debacle, that Elite really has had it's day. Rather than adding useful, interesting new features to the game to promote longevity, I feel now that the grand vision that Mr Braben had for the game has now proven to be unsustainable for the current game.

Don't get me wrong, they clearly tried in the beginning. However, 5 years on, and the core game is virtually unchanged from the earliest alpha. Yes, there have been changes - interdictions, planetary landings... but there has been no other changes that dramatically changed the core gameplay.

Powerplay was supposed to be the heart of the game. But that was utterly half-baked, and even today is broken and pretty pointless. Thargoids? Pretty to look at but a wasted opportunity. Multi-crew? Hahahaha.

Sorry Frontier, but with this latest stunt, pulling out of a pre-planned event, weeks in the making, you've shown your hand to the entire Elite community. It doesn't matter if you have encountered a 'technical glitch', or that you need more time to add something that was supposed to be there when the Gnosis reached the jump destination... you've have PLENTY of time to figure this out - instead you just make s***ty paintjobs for yet more cash-grab.

Just admit you can't 'finish' the game like was planned all those years ago. Don't end up like Roberts. Don't be in it purely to milk those of us still trying desperately to make something of this game. I'm not speaking for the entire Elite community - I wouldn't ever presume to do so. But I think I can safely say I speak for a large number of players, when I say you have broken the promises made, and you have failed to 'live up' to your own hype.

Elite has failed as a project. And I am incredibly sad.

not only the will but the acceptance that something is wrong by the Dev's instead of hiding behind the far to often "we can't talk about it ..."

how many more times are we going to hear something exciting is coming just you wait.

i'll always remember the 1st time that line was used in a live stream by ED ... something along the lines of you wait till next week you'll want it to go back to how it is now.. well almost a year on and we are still waiting.

combine that with the statement from Zac last week surely if they have new features game play whatever ready for quarter for it should be done by now or at least heavily under development meaning they should be able to tell us something.

it makes you wonder if they are just treading water until they can come up with something worth while. next years big updates should already be well under way yet from what we gather they are only just planing it.

surely they know what direction they want to take now. (i'm not talking about exposing features) i'm talking we are going to add x interaction or the ability to talk to NPC's is high priority etc something to address the daily posts that are to often considered entitled whining.

Frontier better give an explanation for this. They’ve had weeks to prepare. It would have been easier to say ‘No - your not jumping there’.

Coming up wth this conclusion is extraordinarily poor:
Thargoids driven away by a carrot on a stick, essentially!

This, is a sad day for Frontier, and very disappointing.

The most telling thing in this thread are some of the things being said, feelings being shared, and by whom.

Frontier Community Team: You should know who the *White Knights* are, and also who are your staunchest supporters and defenders.

I am seeing names from both categories in the early genesis of this thread - are you?

When your White Knights and staunchest supporters start to speak in this manner, that's a problem.

A real, serious problem.
