BREAKING NEWS: GNOSIS STRANDED, GALNET NEWS!

This is my reaction to this development:

All I wanted was to explore some hard to reach systems. I haven't played hardly at all this year due to boredom with the game and exploration, but this Gnosis event got me a tad excited to play some Elite again. I don't know why I had any hope I would get something so simple and easy to deliver. And now it's been completely nullified.

I don't know why I had any faith at all. Back to waiting for Q4 I suppose. [sad]

Mengy, do not yet give up hope. Hope is very powerful. There is still a chance they can rescue the jump and still take us into the unknown.
/hug

I knew something like this would happen but i was expecting something a week or two in, something that we run into like a large mother ship or something... Something to cause a Galaxy On Fire/At war scenario to tie into the need for squadrons and stuff...

Its pretty sad that I am a System Engineer and I can do better story writing that FDEV at this point.. FDEV if you got any soon to be opening positions, I am interested..

No, I think multiple are appropriate and have been for a long time. "Do your job and do it well or get replaced" is the standard everywhere else, why not here? The stockholders are not going to be pleased with the gross mismanagement of their franchise, especially when the stock values start crashing.

You're kidding, right? Firing just ONE person would bring the apparent content development team from 0 to -1!

Cmdr hugs for everyone. Sucky news. Time to sleep. Sad sleep. Was so looking forward to exploring dangerous unknown space. All I lost in preparation for this was my pp work for prismatics. Sorry for everyone that put in tremendous work for this dry puff of a fart.

Y'know I as an explorer I was disappointed about the permit locks but was happy we still got explore SOME parts of it but this? This feels like FDev decided to give all of us explorers who jumped out to the Gnosis a swift kick between the legs.

As an explorer in Elite the lot of us should be used to getting kicked in the nuts by now from Frontier. It's a recurring pattern, I don't know why I ever expected anything other than a kick to the nuts.

This time though it's not just the explorers getting kicked in the nads, it's a LOT of other players too. At least we have company this time.

FDEV THIS BETTER BE FAKE NEWS.

There are over 1,500 pilots aboard the Gnosis, and some of them have been waiting as much as a full week just to be prepared. And some of us have poured hours into engineering and griding to get the upgrades and modules we needed for our expedition into the unknown. And some of us have spent hours traveling to the Gnosis, making 30 ly jumps or less on our combat ships, trudging along until we get there, just to spend millions of credits to transfer over modules we need for our trip.

Collectively we have invested thousands of man-hours and billions of credits into this one trip. Saying that this is a disappointment would be an UNDERSTATEMENT.

I flew there in a 19ly jump corvette and spent 25 million transfering parts. Honestly, this (the Galnet account of future events) is actually better than what I was expecting (being trapped for a month in a single, entirely normal, permit locked system).

I... thought I had my expectations firmly checked and grounded in realism.

This is significantly worse than just ending up in a perfectly ordinary empty system that you can't leave for 4 weeks.

I guess we were anticipating the same thing, just have different opinions of bad and worse.

A better story. Which is sadly one of the things FDev's storytellers are clearly not very good at. They really need to learn how to be better GMs. Luckily there's tons of helpful pointers all over the internet, including youtube for some of the easiest to find. Not that they'll ever do so.

FDev shouldn't be telling a story. They should be providing the props and setting the stage.

We should be doing the storytelling.

We don't deserve this. Cannon certainly doesn't deserve this.

Of course we/they do. You/we/they have banked on a system that surrenders any potential for agency to developer fiat.

I liked much that the galnet news popped out 6 hours before the gnosis will actually jump. Very clever

Galnet is a cool guy. Prophesied the future and doesn't afraid of anything.

actual planned gameplay arc

Usually the worst sort of content in an interactive medium.

This is like a bad tabletop d&d game from college. You know the ones.

More like middle-school, but yeah.

well according to some reports there should be enough of us to get out and push.:)

We won't need to.

If I find my CMDR's not trapped, he's just going to look for trouble in the ensuing melee, then leave under his own power. He got to the Gnosis without the Gnosis' help and is completely fine with leaving it a burning wreck.

Don't worry everybody they'll give us a 1.99$ steam discount to buy a copy of Jurassic Park.

Now that would offend me, as I don't use Steam.

I dunno, a cargo CG 1000LY from the nearest Costco, surrounded by a few hundred angry CMDRs, sounds exactly like a long endurance mission in hostile space.

It's probably the best case, plausible, scenario I could have conceived of!

Smells a lot like Distant Worlds with vague promises of Frontier preparing something "special" for it. Absolutely zip zilch nada. That's not to say that DWE wasn't one of the best gaming experiences I've had, but (apart from providing the game) it was nothing to do with the developer and everything to do with the excellent community.

An ideal state of things, IMO. The more hands off the developer the better. Problem is, developer intervention is needed because so many mechanisms are incomplete. If the core gameplay components where finished and the bugs ironed out, Frontier would never have to write another line of story.

Departure is imminent!

Have a read about what current and former employees have to say about working there. I don't think you'll be interested after that. Imagine, if someone is perfectly happy abusing their customers...what on earth will their behavior be like to their employees?

ive worked for much worse..

I flew all the way back from Colonia for a good 4, maybe 5 hours to do this. I really, really was excited that I didn't miss this awesome event.

Then...

Ok, back to Colonia.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

Let's not get into talk of firings and such. Dev harassment is not condoned on this forum.

Everyone can discuss the news without resorting to calling out employees please.

Some one tell Fdev the rest of the world doesn't go to bed at 12am.

That said... best case scenario I see is a CG, THEN jump to the Cone sector NEXT week, so they can prepare something special for the trip.

That could be a possibility. They saw a huge influx of players, so they decided to delay the trip a week so they could put something special in the cone sector that wasn't there before.

That's my wishful thinking.

Honestly though there's better way to do it. There would have been far less backlash if they just came out and said "Look, we just need 1 more week to finalize some stuff for the gnosis event. blah blah blah marketing spin, sorry not sorry here's a free decal"

People would be annoyed (you're never going to please everyone), but relying on the same lazy story telling you've been doing for 3+ years with the prospect of ANOTHER grindy CG rubs the entire community the wrong way and was probably one of the worst path's they could have traveled down for this
