BREAKING NEWS: GNOSIS STRANDED, GALNET NEWS!

.How about: "there is stuff there which is still unfinished and broken"?.I mean, the whole story is: FD put a massive "wall" of permit locked systems around that. I mean, hey: put something behind 300 LY wide area of systems which are permit locked. Nobody will make it there, right? That is, unless they find that their megaship, which can jump once a week, has been given over 500 LY jump range to compensate for the limitation of only jumping once per week..So Cannon found a loophole and intended to exploit it. They were given warnings, they still went ahead..So now imagine the backlash in the following scenarios:- FD would heavy-handedly said no and stopped everything in its tracks. I bet I would've heard the cries even when not online but being in bed.- FD would've let people go ahead and find broken and unfinished content. Even if it was "only" unfinished, it'd take about 37 seconds till the first ranting video is on youtube, showing how terrible the game again is. And then imagine that some content might be broken enough to result in graphics issues, crashes or stuff like that. Which could very well mean that support would have to move each and everybody who gets too close to such an issue away by hand. (And a number of players would just then go there again... ).We don't know what's there. We can guess that the area was permit locked for a reason. It's very likely that the zone will contain content in the future and it's very well possible that some foundations of that content, no matter how basic, messed up and broken it still is, is already there. .I think Cannon got FD trapped in a corner here. They had to act, with limited options available. Sure a better storyteller could've made a bit more out of this, but people would complain all the same. .
I hadn't realised that FDev were naive enough to allow the Gnosis 500ly jump apable of reaching the sector beyond permit-lock without foresight to ever considering they might actually take advantage of this privilege. So it's still FDev's mistake even if they are backed in a corner by it. At least they apparently tried roillng with it by first warning rather simply said "No you can't use your jump drive to go there" but it's still very poor handling in my opinion.

If FDev fixes the issue with the fines, what does that mean for the people who got sent to jail? Will they get teleported back to the Gnosis? Will they get compensated? Do they even want to get sent back to the Gnosis? Will FDev personally reach out to these victims via email and ask "do you want to be flung 1000ly back to hell?"

I wouldn't call it a complete disaster, there are many that seem to be really enjoying it even with the issues.

I'm one of them. ED is generally quite light on proper life or death situations ..

Staying aboard, fixing the ship and keeping my 3t Kongga Ale intact - for attempt number two on the Cone this time next week - looks like quite a challenge from here.

Sorry Will

But I can't beleive that you guys sit around a table discussing that this is how the Gnosis lore will unfold. Having a Galnet news item appearing & telling us all what'll be happening in 8 hours time is amateurish.

With the disappointment of last Friday's announcements on what's NOT coming in Q4 anymore & now this pewpewfest & no Cone Sector, I wonder what other disappointments lie in wait for the Exploration community.

Explorers complain that this should be about exploration, not about Hydra’s attacking the Gnosis.

But what if there is something really important to discover in this or the surrounding systems? (Frontier parked us here for a reason?)
There sure must be something close-by! The thargoids are throwing in their big guns for a reason. They don’t like us being so close to -their hive?- -their mothership?- -a place that isn’t a place..?-

Well considering anyone with an explorer build can't get off the pad before being smoked. We'll never know, will we?

This is Elite's the biggest fail this year IMHO.

I'm usually one of the first to defend Frontier, but there is nothing to defend here. It's just one massive failure.

This is crap... outfitting not even working.
Good luck to the explorers around the gnosis hahahaha...

Outfitting isn't working? Great -_- I landed at the Gnosis late last night with my combat Chieftan - it was stripped to maximise jump range. I would have arrived sooner but there were some issues acquiring Painite for some last minute HRP engineering. I then stripped the FSD booster and fuel scoop, requested my modules to be shipped in (Two and a half hour wait, many credits, chose a good cross section so I had some flexibility) and shut down for the night. I've got no weapons fitted, no HRP's, no scoop.

So to summarise, (Sips tea, nibbles biscuit) if outfitting is down my combat ship that has no weapons will not now be able to equip weapons, is defenseless apart from its bi-weave, and will be destroyed on the pad without firing a shot. Also, I cannot re-equip my scoop and get my a*se back to the bubble.

On a more general note, I love Elite, and my current situation is partially of my own making by leaving everything until the last minute. The games' various game loops and systems are creaking at the seams though. I'd hoped that Beyond would involve some fundamental reworking of things but it seems to have turned more into a bit of a tarting up around the edges. At this point, this is pretty much the best 'Emergent story/gameplay' FDev can manage and I'm a bit sad, because I don't think Elite Dangerous is going to fulfil its full potential.
