I am sorry to know that you were informed with the wrong information! This is something that we have only recently been made aware of by one of our devs:
“If there is any outstanding criminal status then ship destruction will result in respawning at a detention centre."
There you have it! Regardless of how small the crime. Fine, bounty, upon the even of death, players will be respawned at a detention centre.

I'd start with the two landable planets in the system. We're parked over an Ammonia world, so that might mean something.
100% wrong...this is FDEVs problem. They broke it, they fix it. As a players, you excluded of course, we are tired of fixing Fdevs messes. In this case, No ship under attack would fine defenders..ever...its stupid. Fdev needs to suspend the no fire zone when the gnosis is under thargoid attack. Furthermore, they need to fix the fines players are getting for engaging thargoid ships many ls from the gnosis. Apparently the thargoids have their crimes on.
Yeah, I tried undocking from the Gnosis, was blasted by EMP's, and blown up. Since my ship was disabled over the landing pad, I got a fine, which means my respawn is at the detention center.

Apart from the fact that it looks really epic at the moment. I actually wish I was there, but I am not in a postion to be playing at the moment. I am not suprised there are a few things to iron out. I am not even sure they had this planned for this quarterly release. They may have added it earlier especially for the Gnosis which could be why there are some over sights. But I wouldn't call it a complete disaster, there are many that seem to be really enjoying it even with the issues.
Must admit I'm feeling similar. Didn't realise Frontier wanted so much to actually discourage me from even logging in. Thanks Frontier, that's my weekend of playing Elite off the table if even this promising event has to degenerate into nothing more than another combat fest BEFORE IT EVEN GOT TO JUMP and this current situation remains as it is for the next few days/weeks. I fully expected something combat-related once we got there, but at least that still held the promise of exploring a new area. Now all we get is a furball around a megaship before the jump even gets to take place, with all sorts of gameplay issues to boot as related in this thread. Sheesh....
And to think I was actually going to buy a couple of those new shiny paintjobs tonight before logging in.....well, you can forget that now.
Try open. Frontier might have not entirely thought ahead and thargoids are only spawning in certain instances.
