BREAKING NEWS: GNOSIS STRANDED, GALNET NEWS!

I hadn't realised that FDev were naive enough to allow the Gnosis 500ly jump apable of reaching the sector beyond permit-lock without foresight to ever considering they might actually take advantage of this privilege. So it's still FDev's mistake even if they are backed in a corner by it. At least they apparently tried roillng with it by first warning rather simply said "No you can't use your jump drive to go there" but it's still very poor handling in my opinion.
.
If I say "those who never made a mistake in their lives throw the first stone", I wouldn't be able to finish the sentence before a number of people here go ahead. They probably were born perfect and only have improved since then... :D
.
So yes, mistakes happened. It took all of Cannon, which are still way more people than ED has developers, quite a while to notice the loophole. And it might just be that developers have other things on their mind, too, except finding out how to do the most extreme things in the game.
.
So really, to all the critics on the event itself: what would you have done better? It's easy to cry "oh, it's so bad". It's much harder to come up with a solution yourself.
.
Outside of that, there's the thing with a number of bugs and issues. That's another matter. But FD tried to nudge Cannon away from the action for a while. When Cannon then decided to be stubborn and go for it, FD probably had very limited time to still come up with something. Quickly developed stuff just tends to have some bugs and issues.

Sorry guys didnt wanted to post, but i had a strange feeling of emptyness about not participating in this expedition, because of many other ones in the past where FD messed everything up beyond hope, so i decided to not even log in to board the Gnosis, even if those events are what i enjoy more.

I should be happy now that everything turned out as expected for once more, but i m not. Its so sad to see this happening once again. Its even more sad to see people defending FDs tactic in destroying this community's hype and efforts. Instead of turning this to something magnificent, for once more is a fiasco that went live completely untested and will probably lead to another lame CG.

To be fair this is first time with real time attack on any station in whole ED....so yeah...bugs where bound to happen, doesn't excuse FD not seeing them miles away.

I hope fire zone gets disabled on server side.

With respect frontier made it abundantly clear the gnosis was jumping into a hot-zone. Canonn probably didnt entirely want this. But they went to a lot of trouble to warn people.

Even galnet went live early. How much more of a klaxon is required? Half the forum called it for god's sake.

I was half expecting a jump into the Cone Sector & then an attack, not a jump to the nearest system. Really poor decision by FD just to look after the pewpew players again...& even that's bugged!

I can safely say I would have done it better. It is in fact a huge part of my job, change management and software rollouts. I am not at the gnosis today because I had to train a bunch of senior managers how to use some new software we just rolled out.

The content is excellent. As many have said, this is what we wanted, to see what it's like to be under proper attack by Thargoids. Then came the detention center thing. How can I say I would have done better? Because I have NEVER in my 30 year career, EVER rolled out a piece of software or update to a live environment, without testing the CRAP out of it first in a stage environment. If I were testing this scenario, I would have engaged the thargoids in the no fire zone, I would have been killed, and I would have immediately realised and turned off the no fire zone (or if that were not possible, considered another workaround, such as the already suggested adding a detention center to the gnosis).

I agree, there are some outrageous things being said, but the fact is yes, I would have done better. I remember reading some time ago that FD don't have a test environment on the same version as production. I took it with a pinch of salt, but now I wonder.

OK - late to the news as usual.... I have just logged into Elite and as I am docked I checked GALNET in-game. There is no mention of this attack on the Gnosis. Why is in-game news out of date? How is a player expected to join in if he has to spend all day trawling websites and Reddit to find out what is going on. I don't usually join in the criticism but poor show FDEV

Maybe you misread, but I was actually in support generally of your comment, that Gnosis and their intention to explopit this was partly to "blame" - and that I commend FDev for not stamping down a foot to say "No" but isntead, attempted to roll with it.My point though, was that it was still poorly handled and that honest human error or not, there are still consquences and FDev MUST bear accountability. It's not a five year old sh9owing his crayon drawing, these are supposed professionals providfing a service that has been paid for.Time to get shorting on Tencent.

so I saw this comment elsewhere and had to post it because it sums up the situation perfectly....

"OK so to sum up, the Gnosis is surrounded by thargoids and their swarms atm, undocking in a non AX fitted ship means instadeath... refitting is kinda hard, cause your HUD gets disabled by shutdown pulses EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE IN OUTFITTING... after that your HUD is rendered inoperable so you need to relog again... IF you manage to undock in an AX ship to fight them, you get fined by the gnosis for violating the no fire zone (EPIC!), and should you die with that fine you get deported 60 jumps away to the nearest detention centre... all in all i´d call this event an epic fail like none seen before"

Problem is not that Gnosis was attacked by Thargoids, because I'm sure many of us was expecting this, but the way it is implemented it's just crap. For me it's another Fdevs nail in the coffin in this year.

So was this a live test against instancing station attacks with player involvement? Done at a "quiet" (server) time? Interesting, if so - though a little disappointing it was done when I'm at work and have to experience it via the forums.

Still, progress and all that.

Trying to be positive. Yes, positive.

Launched, under attack almost instantly, no way I was getting 10k from the station.

Fired at a Scout, and took it out with a couple of rail hits, fined, crawled back to the station to dock on 4%, just on the pad when another goid creams me.

Teleported to California Sector, +1500LY away for my crimes.

Pathetic FD. I'm out.

Slopey, is that really you?

When things push Slopey to that cliff edge, things really *are* bad.

Most of the facts are there except the bit where "FD is working hard on a solution now..."

Waited all week on Gnosis in my Asp X. Launched today under attack, fight back, destroy three scouts, get fined, get destroyed and end up in prison ship miles away!
Not at all happy, could of at least spawned me back on Gnosis.
