News Chapter Four - Exploration Reveal

With millions of systems in the game and only a fraction of them containing "interesting" phenomena (like brain trees, Thargoid structures or geysers), performing "deep reconnaissance" in all of them might still become a bit frustrating at some point.

May I suggest a notification after the initial honk, a sentence that is well known and even iconic through most SciFi franchises?

"Commander, we have discovered unusual data from this system! A closer investigation might be well-advised."

No further information might be necessary. Just give us this little hint that there is in fact something to find in the system. (If you really want togive us a treat, additional information, such as "geological data", "energy surge" or "biological evidences" would be handy, of course - but not mandatory.)

With this initial information, let us find the related planet and the exact location on this planet with the greatly improved mechanics you'll described in the OP.

Very excited for these features but I am not sure how "ammo" for the detailed surface probes work. Does it work similar like limpets? To me this sounds like it will drain your resources really quick when you go on a long trip. Also how many can you fire at the same time? Sorry if these questions have been answered already.

will be around 200, and storage is in the scanner itself just like ammo

We believe that players should receive greater credit rewards for the same amount of time and effort.

Well... currently there's no greater credit reward for wing missions. Some wing missions require MORE trips for cargo than the single missions. Yet payment is the same if not worse. That's not receiving greater credit rewards for the same amount of time and effort. Is this intended?

Does that mean without the Nav Becon, you won't be able to use the ADS to actually find Proxima Centauri then? Currently the ADS has infinite range, while the BDS and IDS have a much reduced range. If they're giving the ADS a limited range, what are they limiting it to? Some systems can be quite big.

From Adam's posts it sounds like the ADS replacement will still have an unlimited range and you'll be able to obtain the current DSS information without moving from the star.
The only reason to close in on planetary bodies is to probe them (oo er)

Adam, if you still read this - will be there new ways how we can review data we gather from surface scans? Or system map way will still be we will be using for now? I don't expect new sexy map tech for now, but still curious.

I've taken the information from the original post, added it to what was known before and included all of Adam's comments where applicable (up to this post) and updated my blog for Beyond: Chapter 4.

If you want to click through dev replies on this thread, you can do so by clicking on the little red ED logo in the top right of the first post. Keep clicking and it will jump through them all.

Question about micro probes - Will they be cargo or ammo?

Reason being a lot of ships don't exactly have a lot of options for module space especially the smaller ships like sideys or eagles are already overstretched in module choices.

Looking good!

After recent event's, this gets me pretty excited to have some new features while out in the field. Looking forward to the Explorer Multi-crew aswell, can't wait to aee the implementation!

If you want the location data without using the discovery scanner you can still scan the Nav Beacon to obtain this information.

Why not just put the new mechanism behind the old one, rather than replacing it?

I'm sorry to say that once again Adam, FD are demonstrating some wonderful ideas but the truth is that FD also have a lousy track-record when it comes to implementation.

Please don't let this be another example of the same.

Surely this would afflict your scanning with the ultimate in light pollution.

Actually quite the intestine idea to make it depend on light pollution. It's already competed in game.

PS: Why can't I see the (number of) people reading the thread anymore? Who took that away from me? T.J.!!!

Its nice to see positive news in reference to fun factor, and respecting my time while playing a game - simulator game it may be. All this sounds great and has already renewed the interest of some lapsed Explorer friends of mine.

Here's hoping this is the beginning of a recovery period after all the dreck of the past month. Hopefully starting with something more than the pointless 10 percent payout improvement to missions when flipping's removal guts so much of its usefulness.
