Community guests at FD HQ on 27th for Q4 news

Exactly, they put it forward as an exciting thing too.
I'm sure it was exciting to them and the invitees.....

Things like this make me even less excited.

Yeah that sucks, thanks for the answer. I never understand doing things like that. It is not hype is under the skin annoying. At least to me.

So to be clear cause reading 37 pages isn't going to fit in my timeline today. They invited select few and the masses are not going to be shown anything? Why even make a statement if that is true?

because it generates 37 pages about nothing in less than 24h.

well, it also shows that they are finally back on the game and working on q4 at least. yes, it's kind of stupid pr, but what pr is not?

So ... okay, where was the announcement that something exciting was happening? And for whom was it going to be exciting?

Actually, it wasn't revealed before hand at all, it was just Ed mentioning it on the day:
Today is one of those exciting days that you hear about from time to time! We've got a small group of community guests coming to see some of the pre-alpha Chapter 4 content we've been working on, before the beta rolls out "soon".

No hype building, no attempt to mislead, and certainly no attempt to say we were going to be getting any new information.

I don't get the criticism. Why was it even revealed by Ed? Because you have 17 (I think) community members and streamers who were clearly going to make it known where they were, eventually ...

well, it also shows that they are finally back on the game and working on q4 at least. yes, it's kind of stupid pr, but what pr is not?
ROFL

Your assessment is correct.

As to why the public can't know what the tour group was shown? No idea why, but for whatever reason Frontier doesn't want us knowing about it yet. Maybe things are still in flux behind the scenes. At least we will likely know before the end of the year, and possibly even before the end of next month.

Here's a thing that happened ... so they were about to show us something in mining. They reckoned they knew what the reaction was gonna be so it turned out Will filmed it. Anyway, they did the thing and yeah ... the room went frickin' nuts. After the mining section ... well, you know how most everyone thinks current mining is really boring ... well the buzz around the room was "hell, when this drops I'm heading into the rings and I ain't ever gonna come back out again!" [haha]

How's that for hype?

Sounds good. I hope the mining isn't too tedious.

We get some bits of information and they'll show more with the live stream next Thursday.

I have no problem with the so called "influencers" getting a preview.

Dont be foolish enough to think they are our only representatives. EEE will have been given plenty of briefing, given the chance to ask questions, and given their feedback at an early enough stage.
The difference between EEE and these guys are :
1) EEE keep to their tighter NDA, so no Hype is involved
2) They got to feedback earlier, so their issues could be incorporated

What this does for FD is gives the influencers a chance to get questions answered, get their worries aswaged, and have a think about what they have seen before they do their "watch a live stream - get the wrong end of the stick - launch a jaded/toxic review"

Hello,

In the coming weeks, we'll be showing all of the content that was presented to the community guests yesterday. We'll also be hosting a series of deep dive livestreams where we'll be showing all of Chapter Four's features in greater detail (with developer guests!)

We don't have any dates to announce to you right now, but keep an eye on our forums (and our social media pages) for information about those livestreams!

At least you didn't use the word "soon" Will! :D

I look very forward to the deep dives, thanks for updating us.

This is an important point. What they did was invite a few forum contributors and video producers (all of whom are keen players of the game) whose opinions they respect, and sought their opinion about what they were seeing. Opinion that, it seems, they were eager to obtain.

That to me is a mature way to proceed. If they can adjust to meet concerns that are expressed before the Beta, then it will be a better Beta.

It's win-win all round. FD gets early feedback before launching beta and facing issues that could have been addressed previously. The invitees get a feeling they are making a difference. We get a better Beta to play with and, frankly, everyone (well not everyone, because some still believe we are in a doom scenario) is happy.

Expectations have been well managed this time. A fire has been lit, but it's not allowed to run out of control. Good job FD.

So no new news, then, just old news and old olds. So what's new?

Unfortunately they forgot/didn't think to invite anyone from DW2.

Thanks Lightspeed, I really REALLY appreciate you saying that! [heart]

but you realize it's just soap, right?

let's do something: you can't talk right now, but you will when beta hits. keep your notes from the session and tell us when beta hits about anything that actually changed as a result of your 'feedback', showing that you guys really had an impact on frontier, besides the obvious effect the other way around :D
