This is an important point. What they did was invite a few forum contributors and video producers (all of whom are keen players of the game) whose opinions they respect, and sought their opinion about what they were seeing. Opinion that, it seems, they were eager to obtain.
That to me is a mature way to proceed. If they can adjust to meet concerns that are expressed before the Beta, then it will be a better Beta.
It's win-win all round. FD gets early feedback before launching beta and facing issues that could have been addressed previously. The invitees get a feeling they are making a difference. We get a better Beta to play with and, frankly, everyone (well not everyone, because some still believe we are in a doom scenario) is happy.
Expectations have been well managed this time. A fire has been lit, but it's not allowed to run out of control. Good job FD.
