Thanks, thought Macros was triple, but couldn’t spot in his signature. I’m double & don’t think I’ve ever been offered one of the missions.
Yes, Raxxla has been in-game from the outset, but so has SD hasn’t it? So i assume the missions may have been in from the outset too. It has always seemed a bit strange that MB said there will be no clues if the DW missions were clues, so maybe they were only window dressing; perhaps representing the DW’s attempts to relocate Raxxla, but not really relevant to our search. That could explain why they’ve been withdrawn, FD probably don’t want to repeat the salt thrown around after the Salomé event.

I really, honestly, believe that when Michael said there would be "no clues" what he meant was that there would be no clues provided outside of the game. That asking him for any tidbits would be a waste of time. I don't think he meant to suggest that there aren't any clues inside the game itself. I mean, there has to be at least one clue in the game for it to be "a little bit obvious", right?

I think the original idea was very simple:
- Become Elite
- Go to SD(this is the only gating we have seen)
- Get the mission and learn(if you have read TDW) that Raxxla is not forgotten.
- Read the fine print and find out that someone is still looking for it and that it's(to their knowledge) an obfuscated, celestial body.

We have confirmation that TDW(the secret organisation) has never found Raxxla. They are more or less in the same situation as us.
I think FD want Raxxla to be actually found by a player. No one will lead us, because no one can.

Anyway, the thing is: nobody knows what he is doing.
Then, the MB's journey is not currently implemented.
And don't forget it's Macros' fault ! :D
(4E here, 3 in game and 1 as salt thrower)

It’s Neumann Camp. I’ve not checked myself (haven’t got access) but IIRC Genar-Hofoen had said that it always pointed towards Col 70.

Checked this morning and Col 70 was on the other side of the moon. The antenna seemed to be pointing in exactly the opposite direction. I suppose it has to do something if it's looking at the wrong half of the sky.

Merely single Elite here, closing in on double (trade), but a long way off triple so I hope it doesn't matter!

Edit:

I wish I'd thought to look for stations controlled by TDW (like Neumann) when I was getting allied! Carto data would have been a lot quicker than data missions and donations from Jamesons.

Nothing special on the mission board at Neumann Camp, btw. Is that how the TDW "Raxxla" missions were offered or were they direct like the Obsidian meta-alloy ones?

Shinrarta Dezhra AB 2 h (Neumann Camp) is tidally locked with an orbital period of 68.5 days so, assuming the dish can track from horizon to horizon, it will have Col 70 in view for about 34.25 days and then 34.25 days off. About a month every other month, right?

where is the outer rim? the edge of the galaxy or a region in the galaxy, the edge of the bubble?

obfuscated in the outer rim, seems to be the only sure clue.

obfuscated means hidden (cant see or a puzzle or a word game) but the place to look is the outer rim.

Obfuscated implies something deliberately hidden. Dyson Sphere? Or merely deliberately omitted from Universal Cartographic's records?

It was a very awesome TED Talk. I think, however, that KIC 8462852 has been explained as a natural phenomenon and not evidence of galactic neighbors.

It's worth reminding yourself, from time to time, that you are in the the Lore and Roleplay section of a forum for a video game about (not exclusively) alien encounters.

There is an interesting bit in Imprint about the way GalCop limited pilots from going outside their systems:
"To make spacing affordable, basic models tended to be spartan, utilitarian creatures. Manufacturers made their profits on development and expansion, as well as from areas like Quirium tariffs. The market for inter-system jumpers was a second generation one. The first generation had been epitomised by the Starseekers and Founds that left old Earth in the 25th century in Earth time. The second generation of ships were available with fly-by-wire systems for jump. Hood had the GalCop Galaxy One approved plateau of systems already installed in his navigation units when he had bought his Cobra. Once GalCop had reconnoitred Galaxy One and began to colonise throughout the systems, they realised that by using the available knowledge of the galaxy they could introduce a bespoke jump map of GalCop worlds. It had been an important phase in GalCop history. Drives with the kick but not the brains reduced the expensive navigational processing equipment needed to plot and control jumps. There were numerous associated benefits. Nearly all spacers were now limited to activity inside GalCop boundaries which conveniently reduced interaction with other planetary federations or general over-expansion which GalCop might be unable to consolidate. Planets that were not designated as inter-system reception worlds were left off the jump map, as were a number of 'secret systems' and systems which were still undergoing monitoring and exploration under GalCop's after-the-fact conscience policies."

The Pilots Federation is a descendant of the old 'GalCop Space Licensing Authority'. It's possible that they are still up to the same tricks.

There is also an indication in Imprint, that Elites could get greater freedom in movement:
"I've been offered an Elite commission", said Meridian, her face falling serious again.
A third generation ship. Special operations. I get retrained in full jump navigation and a fully fitted Constrictor Mk II".

This may be a reason for Alex Ryder's need to become Elite.

True but since we are looking for something in this game that was supposedly introduced during the pre-launch "Gamma" phase which was back in 2014. Nobody was talking about KIC 8462852 (AKA Tabby's Star) until 2015. I'm as prone to flights of fancy as anyone, and was quite disappointed that Tabby's Star isn't in the game, but I think it is unlikely that there is a relationship between this phenomenon and Raxxla if for no other reason than my doubts that Frontier could simulate anything similar inside the game as it now stands.

Tabby's Star has been an iconic candidate to be Raxxla for years. Much has been commented about it in this Frontier Forum.

Want fresh news ?

Gosh you guys are invested! It's fantastic :)

I wasn't actually proposing Tabby's Star (I didn't know it was called that. Never heard of it before) as a Raxxla candidate at all. The connection I was making was much shallower than that. Jaiotu mentioned Dyson spheres and I just remembered that Youtube video that I watched literally days ago.

I'm still processing that coincidence!

I suspect you are both correct.
The difficulty is in discovering the bit that’s a little obvious!

Invested? I've been looking from Raxxla since 1985!

Ah, well if we’re looking back that far I got Elite in 1985, so now I’m triple! :D

Counting that ‘85 achievement is the only way I’ll make it nowadays; the arthritis starting in my wrists & thumbs is game-related injury going way back.
can I sue the Pilot’s Federation for compensation?

Never made more than Dangerous in the original Elite (and that with my brother doing most of the combat). I was a trader and tallied my 'score' in credits.

Ha ha ha, this is pretty little compared with when we were "young Rifters", some chasing dragons others hunting nonexistant supernovae remnants ! ;)

Wait ... I just caught the SNR reference. :)
