From the coordinates in your screen shot above, 41.4760, 74.0367 to the antipodal point from your starting point, you'll need to follow a bearing of ~ 158.5°

Oooooh thanks :D

I was driving, but it's gone dark again and I'm hitting too many rocks.

I've moved on a fair bit from there - I'll just get my current position. How do you work that out? I haven't had a chance to puzzle it out yet.

Edit:
I'm at
37.3379
78.3413

For any great circle course other than through a pole or around the equator, the bearing to target varies constantly....

β = atan2(X,Y),

where, X and Y are:

X = cos θb * sin ∆L

Y = cos θa * sin θb – sin θa * cos θb * cos ∆L

and

‘L’ is the longitude,
‘θ’ is the latitude,
‘β‘ is the Bearing.

Indeed it does, however since Ian is starting relatively close to a pole, 69° north latitude, that helps reduce the eccentricity or starting at say 45°. In this case, recalculating the bearing every 10° latitude would be sufficiently close I would imagine, as the bearing only changed by about half a degree with a 4° latitude drop.

Just to add a bit more clarity and specificity to the whole bearing thing, once you cross about -45 latitude, it wouldn't hurt to check your bearing more often, but I would think checking it every 7-10 change in latitude should be sufficient, unless you end up going off course to look at neat things.

My StatusDisplay app can display distance, bearing and estimated time to arrival to a user defined point on a body's surface - in an overlay window that, according to one user at least, works in VR.

Met up with our intrepid hero today. Made a recording.

Not very interesting, but we had a little race.

Fair warning, pretty boring to watch. Also i'd been drinking a ton of rum.

LOL - made me laugh tho!

Ian, just to let you know, I'm gonna bung you a friend request tomorrow probably and I'll come and visit at some point during your journey. And I promise not to put your only SRV in danger by challenging you to a race down a steep, rocky, icy slope!

[haha]

So yes, Agony Aunt dropped by for while. He discovered the joys of skidding sideways on ice and smashing into rocks.

This is him arriving:

Yesterday was my birthday, so I opened a bottle of wine, read messages from my family and friends and generally didn't do much else.
Don't drink and drive folks, You'll end up like Agony Aunt otherwise!

Started off today on a plain and made good speed until I got to a large escarpment range that I had to get across. Some very rough terrain there.

This might be the end of my journey.

Surely this is something that needs to be recorded and time-lapsed? "Around the world in 80 seconds"?

If you're stuck in a deep ravine try recalling your ship. It may be able to hover close enough to board. If not try to get on its back then use dismiss ship to boost your SRV up out of the ravine.

I've thought about this in the past but it's hours and hours of video. Tricky.
