News Beyond - Chapter Four - Beta Announcement

Why didn't you raise this with them while you were there? :p

You realize you are going to be blamed for everything that doesn't meet expectations in this release?

This would be cool.

I guess it's programmer time vs graphic artist time, programmer time may be at a premium atm. Also procedural requires cpu so there may be times where they opt not to.

I know Will said the trailer isn't the final implementation but...

If you look at the large forks, as well as being the same pattern, they're also all the same size :

As in they never appear nearer or further away. So I assume they can never "hit" a CMDR or interact with them, more they're applied to a secondary sort of "skybox" that's a lot nearer to the player than the main skybox?

I don't know, it's hard to say until we see it in game given this is a trailer.

But they do seem to light up surrouding objects (the "things"), which would seem odd on a "secondary skybox" implementation.

Dunno.

Yeah, it's a pity if they're not PG, since it's pretty integral to exploration to have interesting, varied and unpredictable things to find. If everything is the same everywhere, exploration doesn't make any sense.

Somethings in the game are already copypasta (most nebulae are copies, as are solar flares, and are 2D sprites to boot)

Still, great to have more variety in the game. Would make a great location for a CZ! Or station or....

Anyone else find it interesting that a week would be devoted to new ships in the beta. Ships generally don't require as much large-scale testing - in comparison to something like Squadrons. I wonder if it's not just new ships, but if there's some new gameplay there too?

That's why I'm was wondering if the shields down on the Krait is an indicator of shields not being available in these electrical clouds.

Could mix things up in combat in a good way, or maybe a bad way I dunno!

I saw that as loading the big features up front, for bugfixing.

Last week not much new gets released so the patch has time to settle, last thing you want is to drop game changing features a week before go live.

It is going to be a hectic 3 weeks for the devs, my symaphies go out to all the devs reading!

There could be a number of things being tested. New ships, but also engineering effects on ships to get rid of the shield and armour meta.

No you are not alone. My father, for instance believes that playing computer games is just "wiggling your thumbs" so I am pretty sure he's with you.

a sensible man indeed. :p

Just remember the video may contain some work-in-progress elements and I've just got confirmation that there are multiple variations of the lightning effects.

Hello Will! Nice to have multiple variations of the lightning effects.
I hope that they dont rotate with the player ship like the star eruption clouds that we see in game since they where introduced.

Just to note something about the Krait's thrusters seems unfamiliar to me. Could be it's moving slow, but there are no afterburners or other effects. Instead, the drive seems to emit a fog | particle stream of sorts with 'holes' in it. Lighting effect, WIP or new drive tech?
