Distant Worlds II - Fleet Roster Sign Up Thread

I signed up back in early February but still can't seem to find myself in the roaster so I'm gonna copy and paste what I said then.

"CMDR Gudjon262 I was #496 in the first DWE sign me up! I'll be an Explorer and this time on my Anaconda I call the Raven"

I confirm what Chrystoph said, there is no Cmdr Gudjon on my spreadsheet.

I just signed up. I was part of the original DW 3302 expedition, but due to medical problems in my arms, I've largely had to stop playing Elite; I can't spend too much time at a stretch with my hand pronated on the throttle, and I can't bear to play it without a HOTAS. But I might be able to do some regular exploration if I take it easy and wear a brace.

The changes to exploration look incredibly exciting, and I miss playing this game deep in my soul. I really hope I'm able to join you for this.

Welcome back Cmdr! If muscle strain in your arm is a concern, check with the Tour Guides when we depart, I'm sure you can be around for the whole trip and the new stuff without having to travel yourself. Would be a shame to drop off the fleet :(

I got it thanks! Didn't see this when I first signed up.

so I have Signed up.. I think.. 07 Red reporting in

I confirm, you are both on my sheet ;)

Have you tried dual sticks? I’ve been using dual 16000 sticks for about 6 months now, & though I just have mild arthritis in left thumb & wrist it is fairly comfortable. the 16000 has a slider on the base- I use the lhs mapped to throttle (as well as stick Y axis for forwards/backwards) with the rhs slider for zoom. Don’t know about the new mappings needed for fss yet, am waiting for the beta to complete before exploring that.

edit: the 16000 dual sticks are cheap, but the majorityof buttons are on the base. Haven’t tried something more expensive like the warthog or viper with more buttons actually on the stick..

I did consider trying to move to dual sticks, but I've heard that that setup isn't ideal for exploration, where you're spending most of your time in SC where fine control over directional thrusters isn't useful, but the ability to set throttle is.

The solution I've been eyeing for a while--but haven't been able to muster the materials and will to try--is mounting my throttle at an angle so that my hand is no longer pronated.

I feel like I should be okay as long as I'm not getting into combat, where I have to make heavy use of throttle and thruster control.

In that case if you have a suitable pilot’s chair then you could mount your hotas on a VEGA pole mount and angle the controls accordingly e.g. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DFlwIZZQCqg, https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G5xeDbYrp74

So this is the first major event I have done in Elite, I remember the first DW unfolding and wishing I had gone. As there is a wait still is there a Active discord going yet? I really want to be more sociable in game and may possibly need some advice fitting my ship ready!.. 07

The main discord for DW2 will be Fleetcomm : Join here.

In the coming weeks there will be dedicated channels opening up for the expedition, but there's a public one on there already called #outfitting-n-engineering where you can get advice on what ship to take and how to outfit it.

Unfortunately I missed the first one, but this time I am in :) Looking forward to it.

Furthest I have been out was Jaques (in my second Account) - and then I flew back. Seriously regret not pushing on to Beagle Point - but oh well.

o7 See you out there!

Sounds like you need Voice Control.

get rid of the throttle completely and use your voice to control the ship throttle "Speed 20%" "Full Throttle" "all stop" etc. everything that has a button assigned to it you can use your voice for.

Download voice attack (google it) or go to HCS Voice packs and read up on it, watch their tutorial videos. You might have to pay a small amount but nothing compared to a new HOTAS setup. You wont need to have a throttle, but i would say keep the stick for manoeuvrability and combat etc.

Ha, try this with three kids yelling around you! Or, later in the evening, with a missus watching the TV next to.you...

Or being at an expedition meetup with other commanders in voice chat^^

You can set up a hotas hatswitch to enable VoiceAttack in one direction and Discord/Teamspeak/Mumble Voice comms in the opposite direction to avoid problems like that, it also reduces problems with non-game sound sources such as kids. You can also use a VoiceAttack prefix command to prevent problems e.g. “computer, full speed ahead”, though the recognition rate is not 100% so I didn’t try that. I experimented with VA a few months ago & want to get back to it (based on Malic’s https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/351050-Malic-s-Voice-Attack-Profile-for-VR profile cut back for my own (no VR) needs, plus some additions) but started to have PC overheating problems which messed up the sound & game after an hour; aim to get back to it before DWE2, but having too much fun Questing at the moment (plus had my PC apart yesterday cleaning out dust, which then caused fan cpu to not be recognised.....).

and if anyone hasn’t heard the (Star Citizen) ANNA profile https://youtube.com/watch?v=fYgFriRo5FQ it’s worth a listen to see what VA is capable of!
