Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

You want this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thrustmaster-Replica-Force-Cougar-Flight-Black/dp/B002HH9TRY

For some reason they seem a bit pricey now they were 50 squids when I bought them. Great for Flight Sims and they work a treat in E D - an absolute life-saver really with the fighter and camera muck.

There is a thread (some threads) about fitting active displays to them or just bespoke inlays.

Aww now you went and did it. I think she's gonna ban me from the forums for a few days!!!! She went to the kitchen to light the torch and dig out the pitch fork.

Why did I have to read this.... Now I'm thinking of getting one since Christmas and the sales are coming up :D

Luckily, I've only got the cat to convince of any arguments for purchasing, and he's easily persuaded with some chicken and a warm lap :)

I've also been looking at some software that turns ipads into PC controllers, can't remember the name of it now... That would generate a programmable MFD which would be very useful!

Yeah, but you need two. :p

Last point first - Roccat Power Grid is one and there is an iPad app someone made specifically for E D - look in one of the Player Tools fora.

There were a few threads about sticking active screens behind these MFDs.

Wow. Wish I had some spare cash for that. And my current Joyce has a habit of sticking and leaving me in a slow roll. So now, yeah, it looks like I need to splash out with spondoolicks I don't have :(

No Bob, i dont go that far...just the "normal" engineering stuff for me. It took me a long time to actually get to the engineers, but i wanted my python to go faster. Maybe i will try this alien stuff on my python one day...

EPTs are not alien stuff.
They are the only "engineering" upgrade that doesn't require any mats, afaik.

You can just buy them outright at Felicity Farseer, Elvira Martuuk or Professor Palin's bases.
They are the engineers who can mod thrusters.

The price is about as eye watering as the speed, and they are very mass sensitive.
They only come in sizes c2 and c3.
If you do decide to engineer them, use drag drives w/drive distributors.
They work perfectly on a Courier!

Can you adjust the tension on it? Mine has that nut on the bottom you can turn to increase or decrease the tension and I'm thinking that by decreasing it could stop it from sticking. We won't talk about the nut that's on the top side holding the stick.

I was a busy lad last night!

I started collecting mats, and then unlocked Farseer, Martuuk and the Guardian FSD boosters!
Had enough mats to fully upgrade my Asp as far as Felicity and Martuuk could take it, just barely.
Unlocking Palin will be a breeze now.
Then I'll use my exploration data for Alioth, Sirius and maybe Yoru...

Off to make a few credits now.

No, it's a pretty basic stick

Reppage - that stuff took me months and the Guardian work is still an outstanding task. Must try harder.

Strange that Thrustmaster wouldn't make the tension adjustable. That's the same joystick as on my Hotas X with a different base with my second weapons trigger being red and black instead of the yellow and black. Hope you can fix it.

Ta. There's nothing on there to indicate tension adjustments - certainly nothing on the (minimal) documentation. Ah well, you pay peanuts, you get monkies :D I only really use it in RES's and blowing up rocks so not too big a deal. Perhaps Father Christmas will be good to me if I ask Mrs. Tyres nicely enough...

Oh, and in the spirit of the thread... I found two crumbs of selenium just now. Woohoo. Then I did a mission that netted me 2m in one simple cargo delivery. Not my record, but a nice little earner.

Oh believe me it took me a while the first time!
The Guardian FSD booster is really pretty easy.
If you're lucky and thorough it doesn't even require a relog, and only one puzzle.

I made a loop from my base to the Bug Killer Anaconda, to Maia for meta-alloy, to Dav's Hope (should have done that first probably, all that tasty cargo!) then to the mat traders around Deciat.

After the FSD upgrade at Felicity's I went out to the Guardian structure in Syneufe, then came back to Ngurii and bought Soontil Relics, plus the commodities I needed for the FSD booster.
I was just very lucky with that one!

Made a stop for the GFSD booster upgrade, then went to Khun and did the deed with Elvira!

Quite a night of flying!
My Asp sure earned her keep already.

..........r.

It disappoints me that TM no longer make a "proper" joystick at the lower price range.

I still have one of these:

From the late 90's I suppose (Top Gun branded) - it was my first USB stick. It still works fine.

There is actually a video of someone unwrapping a new-in-box one - but a gameport version.

Well, if we're going to get all retro... mind you, this puppy was well after my first Elite days and I wrecked two of them playing Rainbow Islands to death. And Speedball (one and two)

Thanks again, did not know that [up]

... but that is not a "proper" joystick is it - it looks nothing like an aircraft's control. (Maybe a UFO's though ;) ) I was meaning a joystick that was similar to a control used in combat aircraft.

The Konix Navigator... it was a funny old thing really, you needed two hands: one to hold and press fire, the other for the direction lever. So, no, probably not a proper joystick. I think a mate if mine got a blister from it after a manic few hours if Gauntlet.

Back on topic... isn't docking quite easy really? Just landed at a station under repair so the DC was offline. The reason I'm sharing this, though, is because all the welding sparks going off is a nice touch. Seeing the actual engineers would have been even better though.
