The Konix Navigator... it was a funny old thing really, you needed two hands: one to hold and press fire, the other for the direction lever. So, no, probably not a proper joystick. I think a mate if mine got a blister from it after a manic few hours if Gauntlet.
Back on topic... isn't docking quite easy really? Just landed at a station under repair so the DC was offline. The reason I'm sharing this, though, is because all the welding sparks going off is a nice touch. Seeing the actual engineers would have been even better though.
Well, I use the DC by reasons of making money - it's simply faster, if it works. But from my experience now, I will most likely die twice per day due to DC failure. It does not really bother me, because I make so much more money from quick docking, that these 2 deaths do not really count a whole lot. It is just not immersive - and not clear why this happens - most of the time it works fine, sometimes it fails by no apparent reason.
So what suggestion can I make in regards to the DC?- well, just use it if it earns you more than you loose in rebuy cost and time lost to get from the respawn system back to where you were. All the missions you have stacked in your ship will count as failed of course, when this happens. All the reasons one might find why it failed, are bogus, it fails because the authorities decide randomly to open fire on you - last time there was nothing around, totally clear path and suddenly authorities opened fire - even I have cordial relations there. There is no apparent reason, why this happens, other than it is a bug and not well programmed. Especially the aftermath is crap, no information why this happened at all.
