Distant Worlds II - Fleet Roster Sign Up Thread

I'm in. Just getting that Guardian FSD booster to get me above 60 lightyears.

Cheers,

Drew.

Think I might actually switch roles to something with a little less commitment, because alas, I live with my elders and sometimes I'm just not available, which would be a serious problem for a designated mechanic.

Also, I might bring the Cobra after all.

In trade config'.

Because I'm weird.

It would give me 20t for escape pods found on the way.

Why? what would be the point, no place to trade/sell anything picked up until you get back....so all that would happen is you would get slowed down every time you collect something. When you do sell them the credits would get completely swallowed up by your exploration sales. Unless your going for the role play aspect of it.

The Cobra is a fine ship, and a joy to fly. :)

Exactly.

I'm still torn between the Krait and Cobra, although there is a third option: The Viper Mk IV.

I think for me, my issue is that my plans for ED rely on 3.3 now.

We'll see how I feel when the update drops.

It's why I'm instead building a custom voice pack right now. It's to pass the time waiting.

...but how are the frontier servers going to hold up? What is the maximum number of clients ... sry, CMRs ... who can stay in one instance at the same time and system (place)?

The max number of people in one instance is officially 30, however that can be brute forced to higher numbers with effort and wing shenanigans. :D

Congratulations!!! :D

The servers aren't affected so much, I think, but it's each machine for each player in an instance. It's a peer-to-peer based network, if I understand it right, so the servers don't do the heavy lifting, but each peer computer does. At least that's my understanding. Connectivity, computer specs, etc, play more into it. And also what kind of ships, if they're engineered heavily, and such, seems to have some influence on instance performance as well.

OK, thanks for your answers and explanations...

...so we are not going to break the galaxy?

Han, but in other words: If my peer computer were flooded with Lavian Brandy, it could affect some other CMDRs computers connected to it? ... slowing the fleet down ... ships staggering drunken through space ... singing dirty songs. I don't want to be responsible for that! ;-)

Seriously: I suspect this will be an exciting test for Frontier regarding their server/client infrastructure and I think we'll see some strange effects and problems. This will be fun! :)

Nope. Officially the current maximum is 16 players per instance. This info is directly from Fdev when we asked it during DECE where we struggled to get 30 cmdrs to the same instance.

Hm, this is a neverending topic until frontier manages to vastly improve that. Good thing some devs will be participating so they could experience the issues at first hand :D
Dedicated instance servers would be a better solution in opinion. Sure, players from America would have higher pings on EU servers, but I think it's still better than relying on other peoples connections.
I've seen many different bugs occuring with many commanders in the same instance, excessive SRV damage, massive framedrops when multiple SRV's are present, ships that are invisible to some commanders and sometimes even clip through each other, game crashes, people completely disappearing form an instance and spawning in a new one… And don't get me started with multicrew!

Mr Postman Pat will be arriving soon with a brand new Gigabyte GTX 1080ti i just bought off Amazon in the Black Friday sales just for this occasion. I dont think my ageing AMD RX480 will hold up to 16 or more commanders in the same instance, especially as i play in VR.

Taken the plunge....

and signed up to this. Not sure what I have let myself in for as I am a new (ish) player. Had the game 10 weeks but somehow have managed over 400 hrs so far! I will be using my Asp X unless I decide to change. I do need to get the jump range up from the current 31.6 though so need to work on that. o7 CMDRS
