Youtuber Law made a video explaining his opinions.

So he made a video saying that the case was dismissed.

Edit: from his video 10th Dec description, "Crytek's lawsuit has been dismissed by the court. Everything has been dismissed"

Then he responded to comments which pointed out the number of complaints which were NOT dismissed by saying that the amendment superseded the original complaints and those were now gone.

Then when someone posted a link to the full document showing all of the complaints he deleted the entire comment thread.

Now he's going back on all of that and saying that *what he really meant* was that those other complaints are weak, the GLA ended in December 2016 when CIG changed engines (which is what we're having a trial for btw) and therefore he expects CIG to settle for less than $200k.

So he's gone from 'case dismissed' to 'CIG will settle' and he's thrown in a bonus legal determination on the status of the GLA.

What a thoroughly dishonest guy.

I don't understand how updating and improving every component is wasted effort?
It's like designing the outer shell of a car before having any idea how big the engine needs to be. Or putting up side walls and hanging curtains on the windows before laying the foundation, etc.

Once code is written it starts to preclude options down the line. Which is why careful planning is required if you want to avoid wasteful rewrites.

Hint: If you want to build a space MMO, work out your networking and server meshing designs first.

CIG don't waste money on rewrites, they have reshoots for that.

Here's what happened with the youtube lawyer;

This is the description of his video dated Dec 10th

"This is the second time the court has gone through all their arguments and said pretty much 'there is no case here', there might be a chance for you to come back and amend your complaint for the third time, and maybe we develop some argument on which we can act, but for all practical purposes this case is lost"

Now he posts a new video dated Dec 14th

LYEKViR.png

"Why did I say Crytek lost the case? After all there are a number of different allegations in the complaint and as far as the court is concerned they were only responding to a single allegation, they dismissed the lawsuit with respect to that allegation but that leaves all the other allegations intact so why would I say that this case is pretty much lost?"

Well first of all he didn't say the case was 'pretty much lost', he said "The lawsuit is done. Everything is dismissed."

So that's the youtube lawyer who receives Patreon donations from Star Citizen backers, make up your own mind.

edit - removed screenshot of Leonard French, another youtube lawyer, responding to comments that he didn't read the court order. That comment thread has since been deleted.

Just to clarify, that's Leonard French arguing in the comments (presumably for his own premature "case dismissed!" video) , but you're talking about the other youtube lawyer "YouTuber Law" who's rowing back on his comments?

Then it gets pointed out in his comments that there are still 4 out of 6 complaints granted by the judge. He responds by saying "that's not the same order" and then calls the commenter a "coward". Someone posts a link to the full court order and then the comment thread is deleted.

You're mixing two videos there - the first and last bit are Lior Leser, the deleted comments bit is from Leonard French's (very similar) video.

*subscription post*A number of years ago, a mate of mine said there's this new space sim being made and we (the collective gaming pals) are going to play it. After a brief rundown on buying ships, I asked him to link me to the cheapest buy-in and I did just that. He and his partner spent $500-$1,000 on ships over the next 6 months or so and then we all just left it at that. Skip forward a few years and here we are, essentially in the same place but minus the enthusiasm. I just reminded him about SC and he said he'd email me his login details when he gets off work. I can't wait to find out what sort of jpegs I now have access to. Bonus points if something is flyable/in game :)

Best of luck with the install and remember, the higher value the ships at your disposal the more fun you are going to have. Lets hope the mining ship is among the listed so that you can alpha-test the tier-zero mining feature for CiG. Alternatively go for a grinding-run to earn enough credits to buy the mining ship. Please let us know if the fun you are having while doing so is on par with being better then already released AAA games.

Best regards, holding my chair

Thanks, I've edited that comment screenshot out. I've mixed the two guys up.

So my post shows the two YouTuber Law videos with screenshots of the descriptions and quotes from both videos. In video one he's telling backers "case dismissed, everything dismissed" and in the second video he is as you say rowing back on that.

YouTuber Law was telling backers that the second amended complaint superseded the original complaint and therefore the case was dismissed because the SAC only had one item in it - in other words he didn't read it. He got it wrong. Now he's saying that he knew all along that the rest of the complaints were allowed by the judge but he doesn't think there's anything to them - and the reason he gives for this is that the GLA ended in December 2016 when CIG switched engines. That seems to me to be the central complaint of the whole lawsuit so I don't know where that's coming from.

And yes, that screenshot was from Leonard French's comments, and was deleted after he was linked the full document.

All I'm doing here is presenting the facts, I am not attacking their character. Anyone can look at the two YouTuber law videos and see what was said.

Reading the EULA of RSII:

RSII shall not be liable for any delay or failure to perform resulting from causes outside the reasonable control of RSII, including, without limitation, any failure to perform hereunder due to unforeseen circumstances or cause beyond RSII’s control such as acts of god...

Just in case, there you have it. ROFLMAO

I rather have the consumer own the product by willingly paying in earlier (ie crowdfunding)

I'm sorry, but you don't own the product even with crowdfunding. CIG are under no obligation to listen to anything you say or even deliver the product they sold to you.

It's not like there's a lot of competition.

You're kidding right? There is EA who for several years won similar awards.

What is amusing is they are making EA look like saints in comparison. How bad do you have to be when you are getting overwhelmingly voted as having a worse business model than EA????

So what is the other option? Stop working on adding and improving the content people are enjoying?

The other option is to focus on core things first.

Was faceware integration really necessary? Was holding glasses and modelling fluid mechanics necessary? Were train rides necessary?

Time and again we see CIG developing fluff. Its understandable, the backers go crazy over that fluff. But at this stage its just slowing down release of the game. There are things that need to be done before they can call it a 1.0 release, and surely CIG need to get the game released sooner rather than later, otherwise be the time it is released, its going to be irrelevant. Every year more and more games are coming out that are making SC look pale in comparison. If they keep going the way they are, its going to be the biggest damp squib in gaming history.

Another night of having an insane amount of fun (i know a hard concept to define) with friends (which might be hard for some of you to acquire). But hot damn, a good time.

Oh and a 2080ti does help.

To be fair, and as I've said before, any lawyer who needs a flipping Patreon page to survive is rubbish and open to attack. They both do this.

Reading the EULA of RSII:

"RSII shall not be liable for any delay or failure to perform resulting from causes outside the reasonable control of RSII, including, without limitation, any failure to perform hereunder due to unforeseen circumstances or cause beyond RSII’s control such as acts of god..."

Did they just call Goons Gods?
Also, I see Ortwin found his thesaurus again.

Edit to add: I just realised I've had the new https://cloudimperiumgames.com/ homepage up for about 24 hours: The poor fool in the header is still in QT. Much fidelity. So universe. Wow.
