And also, you don't get anything to select. Your composition scanner gauge just goes from the red "nothing found" status to a blank blue status, then you can use it.

fairly sure it was blue the second or third time I used it, but still didn’t show the find in my codex. There really ought to be some feedback on screen that it’s registered something.

edit: ah, got it to work this time, and of course there’s visual feedback! Just needed to get to something like stable near-horizontal attitude so the reticle stayed over a single mound long enough to register. Doh!

if anyone wants to investigate there are 13 biologicals (3 are bark mounds, assume the rest are also) plus several geologicals on IC 4694 Sector ye-a d21 3a

Hmm, you weren't scanning the one in the Little Dumbell nebula were you? Those are technically just in Elysian Shore rather than inner Orion arm and seem to bugged.

no, I’m still around col 285/385/etc looking for Raxxla......
gave up on that blob hunt when you identified it as Little Dumbell. Knew I’d seen it somewhere before! I looked in galmap at all the known RL nebulae from Dr Kaii’s list while checking out the startup image for clues.

I've been flicking through the last few pages to try and somewhat catch up on where people are at with the investigation. Good to see people investigating a possible link with Astrophel and Stella. I wonder if anyone has given any thought to the version of the book on Google Docs, and the various scribbles that can be seen on pages of the book. Sometimes numbers, sometimes words. Upon Googling one of the number sequences, I came across a book which seems to record full moons, and their date and time. May have some connection perhaps?

Also, the line in Sonnet 9 - ' The doore by which sometimes comes forth her Grace' - Could possibly mean something. Perhaps an entrance, which sometimes opens. If referring to the full moon logs above, perhaps when a full moon is in the sky? Where? No idea. But I'm tinfoil hatting super hard right now.

Also in the codex the "Those with eyes to see" line (referring to possible hidden clues within the book) - That line specifically seems too cluey to not be pointing at something.

Just some thoughts. Again, may have already been mentioned previously.

Ok, scanned a system, probed a planet where there were biological signals, went to surface & found two sites of bark mounds, tried to use composition scanner but fired heat sinks instead (think I need to sort my firegroups!) , carried on with my journey, checked codex & I hadn’t found the biologicals.
How do I confirm a sighting? Do I have to get out in the srv to scan them??

It is a bug and was already reported. The same happened to me with pumpkins somewhere else.

Possible lead here. Codex says that there may be hints in the story for those with eyes to see it (or something like that). Sonnet 42 is all about eyes
42

Oh eyes, which do the spheres of beauty move,
Whose beams be joys, whose joys all virtues be,
Who while they make Love conquer, conquer Love,
The schools where Venus hath learn’d chastity;
Oh eyes, whose humble looks most glorious prove
Only lov’d tyrants, just in cruelty,
Do not, oh do not from poor me remove,
Keep still my zenith, ever shine on me.
For though I never see them, but straightways
My life forgets to nourish languish’d sprites;
Yet still on me, oh eyes, dart down your rays:
And if from majesty of sacred lights,
Oppressing mortal sense, my death proceed,
Wracks triumphs be, which Love (high set) doth breed.
O, eyes that move the spheres of beauty,
Whose rays are joys, whose joys are all the virtues:
Who while they force love to conquer, in turn conquer love,
The schools where Venus has learned to be chaste:
O eyes where humble looks prove to be most glorious,
To be beloved tyrants, just in their cruelty:
Do not, O do not, take yourselves away from me:
Keep above me in the zenith, and always shine on me.
Since though I never see them without my life
Immediately forgetting to nourish its own weary spirits,
Yet still dart your rays down on me, O eyes:
And if my death is caused by the majestic power
Of your sacred lights, oppressing mortal sense,
Disasters that noble love creates are triumphs.

My first interpretation is that we want to be looking for an O class star. Maybe tinfoil is too tight

I would even assume we're looking for a binary system with both O class stars both orbited by i would think earth-likes or waterworlds(spheres of beauty)

Probably the Commander that know where to go to find some clues won't say anything to anyone especially in a world forum......and I am not that commander just to clarify

Rays and beams, like the rays and beams from a neutron star?

I wonder if Raxxla is in a system that requires a Neutron Star boost, and a leap of faith with no way back?

Hello CMDRs,

Has anyone considered the fact that "Astrophil and Stella" may very well be a wild goose chase?

I mean, "astrophil" means star-lover, i get it, the sonnets were nice, but "astrophel" actually means star-cork. There's a Cork Nebula (Little Dumbbell nebula), and also a Little Dumbbell Sector well in the reach of a Cobra. I think it's worth checking out.
Also, after listening to the Codex entrance, i find it curious that it's pronounced a-strophel and not astro-phel (the accent falls on the "o"). It may be nothing, but after all, this thread is just a huge brainstorming session. :)
Those were my 2 cents for now.

Just past through that sector and nebula, nothing out of the ordinary. But good bit of lateral thinking.

That mistery finally got me back into the game, even registered here to have some part in that story.

Could this be also connected to Omphalos (which is an object from Dephi oracle, and have connection to 2 eagles, also mentioned in the codex article)
Could we be looking for 2 O-class stars in eagle sector, and some system between them?

Thinking the riddle, sonnets, codex, toast and the original dark wheel book included, allude to a connection to the story of The Odyssey. This may be a recreation of the story, and a retracing of Alex Ryder's footprints, possibly in a series of checkpoints. Let me explain.

This is going off the assumption that Zeta Cassiopeia (Mother of Princess Andromeda) is the brow and NGC 7822 is the Burning Jewel based on the fact that there's one station in the 7822 and it's the Gorgon Research Facility. Medusa was a Gorgon and Perseus used her head to turn Cetus to stone when he was going to devour Andromeda. And the Cupids Arrow Tourism Beacon in Class O system, S171 34, that further aligns with the wording of the Sonnets and goes into your codex and earns you rep with the controlling faction of Gorgon Research Facility, Life Sciences Expedition. Not to mention that In-Game the Class O's of 7822 point a B line (Arrow) at the Andromeda Galaxy.

Sonnet 9, (or the 2nd one listed in the wiki), talks about a place, Queen Virtues Court.
When Odysseus got pushed off the island of Ogygia (Translates to Atlantis) by Calypso after 7 years of being stuck there with her, he arrived on the island of Scheria and taken into the palace of Arete (Goddess of Virtue) and Alcinous (Mighty Mind) where he was cared for by them and assisted in finally getting home to his wife in Ithaca after 20 years of separation from his wife Penelope.
The hero returns home having proven himself in Courage and Mind. The reuniting of Penelope and Odysseus has been equated to being a coming together of like-minds.

In Ancient Greek Elysian Fields is the underworld of the Virtuous and Courageous. Elysian Fields is also a very common character in the original book, The Dark Wheel.
Elysian Shores Region is the home to the Heart and Soul nebulas and home to NGC 7822 which resides in the Cepheus constellation. Cepheus is Andromeda's Father

The big thing here, something I'm dubbing The Neptune Connection, is that Arete and Alcinous are descendants of Neptune.

Neptune is Jason Ryders son and Alex Ryders grandson.

Edit: Fixed the names and links to characters

The hero returns home having proven himself in courage mind. Odysseus speaks, in Homer’s poem, of the ideal of like-mindedness (homophrosyne) in marriage and the moment of Ulysses and Penelope reuniting has been likened to this.

In Ancient Greek Elysian Fields is the underworld of the Virtuous and Courageous. Elysian Shores Region is the home to the Heart and Soul nebulas and home to NGC 7822 which resides in the Cepheus constellation. Cepheus is the one who rescued and married Andromeda.

Good stuff. I've been looking at the Odyssey as well.

I have a few stars/regions, sort of mapped:

Scheria is Polaris. The highest floating Island.
Ogygia is Regor(Gamma Velorum). South Pole star of Neptun. Possibly
Ithaka is in the Pleiades. Odysseus symbolized by Orion the Archer, seeking home his wife in the Pleiades.
Entrance to Hades is Deneb(Alpha Cygni). The white rock, at the parting of the rivers(start of the Great rift). The omphalos rock in the Great rift.

These are just some googling results and my interpretations. Probably not very accurate, but it may give some ideas.

There's also that intresting part in the Astrophil and Stella

First Song
Doubt you to whom my Muse these notes intendeth,
Which now my breast o'ercharged to music lendeth?
To you, to you. all song of praise is due;
Only in you my song begins and endeth.
Who hath the eyes which marry state with pleasure,
Who keeps the key of Nature's chiefest treasure?
To you, to you, all song of praise is due;
Only for you the heav'n forgat all measure.
Who hath the lips, where wit in fairness reigneth,
Who womankind at once both decks and staineth?
To you, to you, all song of praise is due;
Only by you Cupid his crown maintaineth.
Who hath the feet, whose step all sweetness planteth,
Who else for whom Fame worthy trumpets wanteth?
To you, to you, all song of praise is due;
Only to you her scepter Venus granteth.
Who hath the breast, whose milk doth passions nourish,
Whose grace is such, that when it chides doth cherish?
To you, to you, all song of praise is due;
Only through you the tree of life doth flourish.
Who hath the hand which without stroke subdueth,
Who long dead beauty with increase reneweth?
To you, to you, all song of praise is due;
Only to you all envy hopeless rueth.
Who hath the hair which, loosest, fastest tieth,
Who makes a man live, then glad when he dieth?
To you, to you, all song of praise is due;
Only of you the flatterer never lieth.
Who hath the voice, which soul from senses sunders,
Whose force but yours the bolts of beauty thunders?
To you, to you, all song of praise is due;
Only with you are miracles not wonders.
Doubt you to whom my Muse these notes intendeth,
Which now my breast o'ercharg'd to music lendeth?
To you, to you, all song of praise is due;
Only in you my song begins and endeth.
And it somehow reminds the beginnig of CODEX article on Raxxla in some way.

LOL
yes, it is blatantly obvious but you’ve brightened up a cold, dark, wet, dreary morning! :D

Edit:
and I think you mean reticle; I believe a reticule is a small lady’s handbag :rolleyes:
though if you wish to align your targets with a small lady’s handbag ... I’m broadminded :)

Makes me think of some kind of reputation related thing. Tip off, chained missions...
