For me it's not about credits (although obviously it's now quicker - it was easy before, it just took much longer!), and I wager it isn't for others either. There's another thread "BD-12 1172: Best System Ever?" which with the old system you'd have to rely on blind luck or more likely someone else finding all that stuff first and then you hearing about it on the forums or wherever, now everyone has a decent chance to find these things. The FSS (for me at least) makes exploration more time-respectful and interesting...Im starting to think the FSS is not really about exploration. Its about making credits and because you are making credits that somehow justifys the misery involved. Very disapointing.
I can tell you with certainty what will happen.
Fdev will look at the stats - their internal ones, not the steam thread - and they will know if the FSS is a success. Along with the rest of the Q4 changes. And then they will leave it or change it based on that.
These threads? Lol. There is no argument to win.
I'd guess I'm closest to agreeing with "old duck" although to be honest I really couldn't give a monkey's whether the ADS is brought back or stays confined to the darkest of pits. I'm viewing this thread in horrified fascination at how some can become so fixated on something so trivial. If only you were so keen to point this out to some of those you agree with. Im not "bent out of shape" im just flying the flag for an ajustment to the FSS mechanics in the face of teh opposition who would end the discussion if they could and bury the issue forever. If you are so happy with it why are you arguing with me instead of playing? I might think you find beating me and killing off the ADS permanently more important.

The fact that they havnt said "no chance" yet is pretty much an indicator that its still up in the air.
Absolutely. That post also shows how it all ties together: the FSS, probes, the new lightning, new stuff to find: it all connects into an awesome explo experience

Still hanging around in Colonia, ships are being transferred and then I'll be doing a series of smaller expeditions around these parts in small ships, waiting to see where DWE2 goes.![]()
Uh, what it is is effectively a hud onto your visor that replaces your first person view, I suppose if you wanted to not have it 'shift' they could do something to make it look more like an overlay, but saying "out of cockpit" breaks immersion is a bit much in my book, first person is first person, it is the future, if your whole line of sight is replaced with that hud, which easily could be done with what has been seen ingame, why would it break your immersion?

But here I'm absolutely with you. I'm really worried about what's currently looking like the clearing sale of maybe 10 or let it be 20 different sorts of POIs, especially in light of the current tools that make it so easy to find them and which takes most of the exploration spirit out of the game. It's this aspect alone that makes me understand why some explorers still prefer blindly cruising over planetary surfaces. And yet it could be solved so easily: by a way lower distribution of POIs, that currently also seem to serve as some means of surface mining.
Not sure if mixing exploring and mining was such a good idea. For now the mining part is fun, but it's coming for a high price - and that is eliminating the sense of secrecy, mystery and actually exploring these things.

and?
Just because 10k people sign up for a community doesn't indicate widespread support for the blue blob machine.
Will be interesting to see though post DW2 how many people who do explore might voice some issues with the blob machine.
The fact that virtually none of those who want parts or all of the ADS back into the game seem to accept an "XOR" compromise - in form of the original ADS module suppressing all of the FSS functionality when fitted into the ship - is telling volumes by undermining any potential credibility and honesty. It's basically saying "hey, the FSS is kinda cool and all but we want it all!", while happily ignoring all concerns about consistency and coherency of the game. It's an absolute destructive stance that deserves no further accommodating, plain and simple. :|
