If I wanted a 'radio-tuning' game I would have rather bought an old radio.

There is absolutely nothing in there that gives players a 'right' to 'tweak the rules'.

Access to this forum grants us the ability to pass feedback and suggestion for discussion - but definitely no 'rights'.

Try again.

No, I don't need to try again, since I stated that we have the right to request changes, which you've just agreed with.

No.. requesting a change is not the same as suggesting a change. Look in the dictionary before you try using ridiculous wordplay arguments.

In fact, I'll even make it easier:

request
/rɪˈkwɛst/

verb
gerund or present participle: requesting

  • politely or formally ask for.
    "he received the information he had requested"
    synonyms:ask for, appeal for, call for, seek, solicit, plead for, put in a plea for, pray for, petition, sue for, supplicate for; Moreapply for, put in an application for, put in for, place an order for, put in an order for, order;
    demand, require, requisition;
    call on, beg, beseech, entreat, implore, importune, adjure;
    invite, bid;
    rareobtest, impetrate, obsecrate
    "the government requested foreign military aid"
    • politely or formally ask (someone) to do something.

      "the letter requested him to report to London"
Suggest
/səˈdʒɛst/

verb
gerund or present participle: suggesting

  • 1.
    put forward for consideration.
    "I suggest that we wait a day or two"
    synonyms:
    propose, put forward, submit, recommend, advocate; Moreadvise, propound, urge, encourage, counsel;
    move, table
    "Ruth suggested a card-playing evening"
  • 2.
    cause one to think that (something) exists or is the case.
    "finds of lead coffins suggested a cemetery north of the river"
    synonyms:
    indicate, lead to the belief, give the impression, give the idea, argue, point to, demonstrate, show, evince More"evidence suggests that teenagers are more responsive to price increases than adults"
    hint, insinuate, imply, intimate, drive at, indicate;
    informalget at
    "government sources suggested that the Prime Minister would not necessarily change his cabinet"
    • state or express indirectly.
      "are you suggesting that I should ignore her?"
    • evoke.
      "the theatrical interpretation of weather and water almost suggests El Greco"
      synonyms:convey, express, impart, imply, intimate, connote, smack of; Moreput one in mind of, bring to mind, remind one of, evoke, evince, conjure up, summon up, call up;
      refer to, allude to, signify
      "the seduction scenes have enough ambivalence to suggest his guilt and her loneliness"

      (of an idea) come into one's mind.
      "a simpler explanation suggested itself to me"
Two completely different meanings.

Not quite sure what your argument is here.

There are already suggestions in the appropriate thread, but I personally prefer not to derail them with constant arguments about whether or not the FSS is better than the ADS.
Dangerous Discussion is the right place for this particular thread.
If FDev are remotely interested in opinions on the FSS then they'll be able to find them here.

Not everything needs to be an argument. Just pointing out that if they didn’t get information from here and/or didn’t care, they certainly wouldn’t tell us that.

Again, not sure what you're arguing here.

Also, they didn't run a Focused Feedback, so that one is a fair point.

Again, not everything needs to be an argument. And there WAS a Beyond Focused Feedback, though not a specific sub-forum for Exploration. This was covered back in the single-digit pages of this thread if I recall. Point being: In the very general Focused Feedback thread many suggestions were made, including giving the count of system bodies on the initial honk - implemented. Correcting the flicker giving an even smaller number of people Oculus migraines - status unknown/don’t have that problem, and others. This entire discussion should have been made then. Great case of: “Hillary supporters, Trump still won and you’re still not getting the office three years later.”*

As I said, I expect any change FDev make to the FSS/ADS situation to be announced ahead of time.
Other peoples' opinions/expectations may be different.

If nothing else, we can agree that everyone’s expectations will differ.

C&P got a Focused Feedback and, IIRC, had significant changes made to the original design. If FDev had taken the time to do an FF for exploration then maybe we wouldn't stuck in this interminable loop.
Engineers got massively reworked from the original implementation - seems reasonable to expect changes to exploration too.
Legacy Engineered Modules are still here because FDev felt that taking things away from people and replacing them with something inferior was a bad idea. I'm hopeful they'll realize the same thing about the FSS.

C&P changes were fairly minimal. The most notable changes being no more 26.3m credit fines fir 59 credit infractions, and some adjustments to Power-play related functions that were not in keeping with the intent - exactly what should be done. In this case though, a vastly INFERIOR in every way module was replaced by a VASTLY superior one. We can green-eggs-and-ham this point until we’re blue in the face and our fingers fall off. Thing is, there are actual numeric values to support which version of a particular module is “better”. My 45 light year, 20% cooler plus 10% More Fuel FSD will always always be superior to any newly modified FSD simply because it is not possible to have these same sets of modifiers applied to a module modified under the new system. The ADS never had any such modifications available, thus there is no math that can demonstrate any superiority there. Of course, it WAS a module, occupying space, having a cost and possessing mass. The new FSS is none of these, which shows mathematical superiority. Both your option AND Mine have mathematical values of 0 in this case.

Engineers, I’m not talking about the change from the legacy engineering to what we have now, I’m talking about the very existence of Engineers. There are still more than the 5 of you ADS fanatics who want the Engineers removed completely.

I would like my engineered DSS returned, definitely - but if that presents a technical challenge for FDev then I'd be happy to re-engineer it.

So it’s not just the ADS, but ALSO the DSS you want changed? Can we avoid another 140+ page thread about the evils of the DSS too?

Especially since the FSS combines the function of the old DSS with modifications so far beyond what even the Gods own god-rolled results + cheat + hacks could have ever produced (range +All and then some)

I want lots of things changed, but I'm willing to any compromise that decouples body location from body evaluation.

Ok, first off, my broke quote tags broke your quote tags something horrible. I fixed mine. I hate posting on my iPhone. It does stupid things.

I still can't fathom why. To me, it's like reading the first 3 pages and the last 3 pages of Cliff's Notes. Going to have to go out on a limb here and guess you to be Not-American, probably British, or at least some flavor of European. If not, then a lizard in human skin. Certainly not a spider or cephalopod. Not that any of these are bad things, just trying to figure out where such an alien thought process originates, because I do have to know how things work.

Round peg into square hole, but only if round peg diameter is exactly equal to pi*length of the square hole...

Let's play a new game for at least a post or two though, a mental exercise... what if. I like the game of What If... so, What If all this comes to be moot, and the FSS is all there is. What will you do? Clearly the answer is either "live with it", or "find something else to do".

And to pre-answer your counter-question, my answer is: I'd never buy one.

This kind of thing is why its not even worth responding to. You know its broke the game for some of us and yet you keep on pushing this kind of drivel.

Real football existed before america existed.

You call it “broke”, I call it “fixed”.
You try to dismiss my opinion as drivel, because you neither share nor respect it.
Because of this I must respond in kind, and withdraw my sympathy for your plight. Congratulations, you have pushed me firmly into the No Compromise, Zero Tolerance Camp with this.
Death to the ADS. Take no prisoners, offer no quarter.

I was on my phone too - which is why I gave up trying to respond to individual sections.

For information, I'm a Brit on a green card in Miami.

And my answer to the what-if is "find something else to do". Unfortunately I'm struggling to find a game that will suck up 5,000 hours of my time the way ED has.

As to the big "Why?"
I long ago stopped playing ED for results - at least on a session-by-session basis. I have all the credits I need and all the ships I want, so I gave myself other goals - including a target of visiting and mapping all HIP and HD systems. That exercise would probably have taken around 6 years at my old pace. Clearly, I'm not in a rush to achieve anything and there isn't anything particular I'm looking far. I'm just pootling about the galaxy, enjoying flying my spaceship around systems and enjoying my own self-designed minigame of optimizing my path through the systems I explore.

Now with the FSS I can still build the System Map before I start plotting my route, but I can't do it without resolving the planet composition too - so it feels (entirely subjectively) that I have already explored the system. Now mapping the planets could replace that 'flying around the system' step, but I already know which bodies have POIs and which don't, so there's no sense of 'discovery' associated with doing it. Again, entirely subjective, but my enjoyment of exploration was based upon these subjective feelings.

It should be clear from this that the old ADS was suboptimal for my gameplay too - the honk gave much more information than I really wanted, but after 5,000 hours I'd gotten used to it. I think, having stewed on it for a while, that your (I think it was you) suggestion of separating the FSS body targeting from the tune-n-zoom element would be the best resolution to the issue for me - short of rewriting everything to be a lot more challenging and annoying everyone else ;)

Okay, hold on. Since most HID and HD systems have at least been partially mapped, you have your answer right in front of you! Continue with your noble goal (that's respect, not mocking, from someone who is also a HIP-hop explorer), using the honk only to populate your nav panel, fly to the planets in each HIP / HD, map them, and then open the system map.

PROBLEM SOLVED :D

You can write your check to "Old Duck, Solutions LLC"

If I could simply jump from HIP to HIP then that would be viable, but there's an awful lot of systems in between that I need to fly to which haven't been explored. Also, unexplored HIP systems are like the Holy Grail to me - the last thing I want to do is hope I DON'T find one!

Eventually one of three things will happen:

FDev will do something that makes exploration more fun for me.
I'll overcome my addiction to ED and go play something else.
I'll become a jump-honk traveler and only spend time in HIP systems.

I've currently gone with option 3. With 3.3.01 guaranteed to crash at least 6 times a game session and the BGS a complete mess, one of teh only things that was worth doing was exploration. But since I hate the FSS with a passion, I've been sticking to the edge of the bubble where systems have a usable map and just mapping one planet per system to get my name on it.

If things don't improve soon, I'll probably be moving to option 2.

I'm working on option 2, but it's difficult.
Crusader Kings 2 is helping. I'll try X4 again when it's a little (lot) less buggy.
