Damn you! You broke mah imsershion! <shakes fist>

I expect whole moons to be covered with neon signs saying "Sirius Cybernetics Corporation - Share and enjoy!"

I'll take a subscription fee before I tolerate ads in the game.

If I start seeing ads for current day products in Elite I will mod the game to make sure I don't see them for long, and only because I've already paid for it. One of the primary reasons I don't play free mobile games, website games, or pretty much anything from EA is the imbedded advertising.

I haven't bought a game from EA in 4 years, don't rush to get on that same list Frontier.

Haven't bought an EA game in years as well - but I don't remember them using ingame ads unless in games where absence of ads would ruin the overall impression, such as sports games.

There are myriads of reasons not to buy EA games (like Origin, the company ripping their customers off with game features sold as overpriced DLC, their games being just plain bad, unispired dumbed down pieces of rubbish, ruining any established franchise they bought and put their dirty hands on and them generally being the equivalent of cancer in the gaming industry etc..etc...), but I wouldn't regard ingame adds as one of the main problems with EA.

Having that said, if it's something that seems remotely plausible like a coke ad, I wouldn't mind it so much - if it's something like a Sims 4 ad, I would probably open fire on the adboard out of reflex, get destroyed and then ragequit.

I wouldn't mind ads for in-game products either. If they want to advertise their new cosmetic skins on billboards in game as "The new Cobra Mk III, Black Colorado edition!" that's great.

One ad about one weird trick to lose 10 lbs in 10 days and I'm done.

I don't mind ads on floating billboards outside stations or in some other not so in your face places as long as it doesn't affect the game in any way. i.e pointing the crosshair at it for too long makes a webpage open or just having 30 billboards blocking the entrance. FD need to make money and that's fine just don't go crazy.

I really don't like the thought of the corporate world splashing their products in game. I understand the need to gain revenue, but it's cheap and takes so much from immersion. I would have thought that revenue would be gained by earning peoples money via the add-ons, ship skins and merchandised items, which will also add to the cost of playing or trying to reach that immersion level. It's bad news for me where Elite is concerned and it does appear greedy; riding for the cash on the back of a successful genre springs to mind.

Very disappointing. :(

But if there is advertising, keep it out of the cockpit if you don't mind.

Ads from compare the insurance type companies and also comedy type things from real companies "have you had an accident at work? Someone crashed into you with an anaconda? Then call us todahy for a no win no fee payout" would be kinda cool...

In the future they will make entire moons into ads. Look at the moon and see a Coca Cola Emblem!. :D
Good point!

But you know what i mean : Advertisings that didnt realy fits in the Gameworld. For me its not believeable that we still drinking this red-white sugar-water in 1000 years.
Why not? People have been drinking wine and beer for thousands of years. I think it would take the collapse of civilization to get rid of the Coca Cola Company. The stuff they sell in a thousand years might not be exactly the same stuff we drink today....

There's a dividing line, for me. If they only take ads that are reasonable projections into the future, and they look completely in context, then I can handle that. Taking one for the team, indeed. A few generic Apple and CocaCola ads won't be that bad, especially if they're only logos.

At least I won't have to see them out on the frontier while exploring. Maybe they could limit the ads more to the core systems and the most popular stations, where many people will be hanging out anyway for social interaction.

However, if the ads show current 2104 products like cars, running shoes, the latest iPod, or a billboard for a summer blockbuster Superhero movie, then that's the breaking point for me. I'll be outta here. That will absolutely kill immersion in the game.

Yeah I would be severely disappointed in Frontier if they showed such a lack of class.

Immersion destroying advertising would force me into solo offline immediately.
I would not accept adverts for 21st century cars for example.
I do not at all mind a bladerunner-eske cyberpunk atmosphere in the game. But the adverts have to fit in.

For example in game hand weapons could have existing brand names.
I would not mind seeing futuristic versions of a Chiappa Rhino revolver in the game or a Beretta laser weapon.
Futuristic vehicles could also have real world brands. That would not destroy immersion I think.

For me it wouldn't be a huge problem - only if it interferes with gameplay.

"Do you want to visit brand-x website Yes/No" and waits for us to reply then that would be a show stopper - but adverts on billboards outside space stations isn't really a problem - even current day adverts - but don't force me to interact with them, please.

In-game advertisement would be ok for me if it's seamless in the game. For example the already available ad screens at entering a station.
There I don't mind if the companies or products fit in the game scenario and time.
For example at Trackmania I actually enjoyed the in-game ads in the beginning as they supported the racing feeling (no car race without ad billboards along the track) and advertisment billboards along major streets will be for sure also present in the future.

Pop-ups, or having to watch an advertisment in advance of playing the game is not ok for me.

they could sell some "ad blocker" module in the store for those that would prefer some payment above adverts in game ;)
