Will PS4 get the Cobra Mk IV?

I had a thought last night while I was flying around on DW2: Why did ED:Horizons ps4 pre-order players only get a free gold paint job for a ship that most of us never used after finishing the first day in game, yet PC and Xbox player were given the Cobra Mk4 for pre-ordering the exact same DLC that we have?

and the only answer I could come up with is this... i have no answer, this doesn't make sense.

as much as i love FDev and Elite Dangerous as a PS4 horizons pre-order buyer I want to say that i really don't understand why pc then xbone players got an exclusive ship for the same DLC pre-order that we PS4 players got a sidewinder paint job we rarely if ever use. Give us a chance at getting the Cobra Mk4, it may be a pile of rabbit droppings but at least we will feel the same as pc and xbone players who got it, Pretty please with a bourbon biscuit on top lol

I think you have summed it up perfectly acid. And that is the whole point really - we just want to be treated the same as PC and XBox players!

I preordered PS4 Horizons and think the Cobra Mk IV will be great for the new mining mechanics.

Come on FDev sort it out!

I thought (may be wrong) the reason for it was that at the time Horizons came out on PC and XBOX, commanders had already bought the base game. The need to may players make a second purchase, Horizons, needed something quite substantive, otherwise Frontier would have a dead duck on their hands. The pre-order bonus was way of generating people across onto Horizons. To generate the hype / buzz / attachment rate for Horizons, the 'pre-order Cobra MkIV' was created.

When it came to PS4 launch, the same driver wasn't there. Horizons was an already established and Frontier didn't need the money of people moving from the base game to Horizons.
I personally think that they didn't think that any sort of pre-purchase incentive was needed on PS4 and when asked, thought throwing a shiny paintjob at the PS4 commanders would be sufficient.

I think that they could have provided a cobra mkIV at launch for PS4 commanders buying Horizons without falling foul of their 'exclusive' claim on the PC and Xbox as it was a different platform but they didn't want to upset PC / Xbox commanders who had missed the boat between Horizons release and PS4 release.
I think that they could have provided a cobra mkIV at the completion of the Horzons release arc / start of the Beyond release arc, stating that the exclusivity was just for the period of the Horizons roll-out but they haven't
I think that they could provide a cobra MkIV to all commanders with Horizons now by retiring the base game as a standalone and releasing a Game-of-the-year combined game, simplifying their SKU proposition. The latest ships are already limited to Horizons commanders, the cobra MkIV would just be another one of them. But they haven't yet.

Unfortunately, a couple of Cobra MkIV owning commanders have made sensible discussion on the subject so toxic that there is no easy way forward. If Frontier even acknowledge that they are possibly thinking about providing the ship to anyone, these commanders come out of the woodwork crying FOUL. Some of these commanders claim it is not worth flying, but at the same time don't want PS4 commanders to find out.

@Frontier, Think about the potential revenue stream from Commanders buying paint jobs or ship kits for the Cobra MkIV vs the noise generated by a couple of commanders claiming that Frontier went back on their word from four (or more) years ago. The ship is already built. We can see it flying in / out of stations, commanded by NPCs. I don't think that it would be too difficult to remove the block.
You have the stats to hand. What percentage of hours have been flown in a cobra mkIV in comparison to every other ship? There are 38 ships available to purchase in game. I would be willing to wager that the Cobra MkIV does not make up 1/38 of flight traffic

I'm quite sure you said that you can't think of a reason why new platforms can't have it. Yet you talk about a sensible discussion by other commanders that are making it hard for PS4 platform users to get it. Care to explain? And what "sensible discussion" are you referring to? Seems to me that those "sensible commanders" are nothing more but a few selfish pricks who wouldn't grant us the light of day.

I was referring to the Commanders that whenever the discussion around providing a Cobra MkIV to commanders surfaces (and it does on a reasonably regular basis not just PS4 ones) that a few Commanders say, 'Frontier gave it away as an exclusive, the time has passed, you cant have it'. A few Commanders then respond, 'I can't see what the fuss is about, give it to all'. Then the initial group retort back with 'Frontier made a promise, they cannot break that promise', then it descends into name calling.
Because of the noise that this debate now generates whenever it is raised by those on both sides of the arguments, Frontier are understandably keeping away from it.
If you aren't aware how toxic the debate can become, just put up a Dangerous Discussions post asking why you cannot get a Cobra MKIV. Everyone will come out of the woodwork and say their piece.

I fully understand what people are saying, possibly even why they are saying it. I am not trying to erase their viewpoint from history.

The point I have been trying to make was that the Cobra MkIV was sold as an exclusive on the PC and Xbox platform as a way to encourage people to buy Horizons.

Not only has the Horizons roll-out completed, but also the Beyond roll-out as well.
PS4 commanders were not able to play Elite Dangerous when Horizons was launched or (I suspect) that they would have been subject to the same early purchase incentive.

My personal opinion, is that Frontier should allow the purchase of Cobra MkIVs for all and I will continue to argue for that should anyone ask.

Normally I would consider all POVs from all sides. But this? C'mon... If Frontier has any sense they will give all PS4 owners the chance to own a Cobra Mk4 with the next paid content when you pre purchase for example. There is no valid argument from PC and Xbox players that PS4 players shouldn't get a chance at getting it. We had ED Horizon released at a later date and it's entirely on Frontier and the crybabies they seem to listen to, why this stupid debate is still going on. This is what I think at least after reading all that Stinja summed up. NPC pilots are already flying it on the PS4. They should have just offered it as a pre purchase when ED launched on the PS4. Seeing as we aren't in control when it comes to release dates and pre purchase bonuses. The game, immersion, experience for Xbox and PC doesn't change at all. It boils down to like I said, a few who don't grant others the light of day.

but we got gold plating for a ship that most of us haven't used since Day 1 of playing, you ungrateful barbarian's ;) *yes it's sarcasm by the way*

I kept mine hoping the cheap gold plating would be worth something some day, when I end up destitute and begging for food or a job in Jameson Memorial because I spent up looking for Raxxla lol
