Anthem

There are combos I'm virtually certain though it's been a long time since I played.

It's not about there being or not being combos of any description.

It's about Anthem being a power-based combat as opposed to gun-based combat, which means the way the game plays and feels is very different.

I wouldn't really know mate. I played the division so I was only answering the chap above on that basis (I could be wrong also!).

As for Anthem and it's basics sadly the demo didn't sell itself to me so I can't speak for that. I'm hoping the full game DOES a better job when I eventually feel like playing it :)

Yeah, I think if you get it six months, a year from now, It'll be much better.

When I refer to combos it's the explosions you create from a priming power detonated with another power the character casts. I know fighting games have combos too, but that is not what I meant.

Apex is a fun great game, that from someone who isn't a BR fan ala PUBG, etc. I haven't spent anything on it yet myself.

Oh, I'm enjoying Apex a lot, myself. But it is a cash grab by definition. Trendy genre, simple gameplay, lootboxes and toxic fandom. :D
Very well made one, of course, but cash grab.

Anthem as a story-driven coop, a dying-out genre, is the exact opposite of that.

Didnt watch any youtuber or read any reviews about anthem. Tried the origin demo 3 weeks ago and was slightly suprised how good this plays apart from quirks like long loading, no stats page, terirrible UI etc.
Now our discord is filled with people who are addicted to anthem.
Firing a colossus autocannon is so damn satisfiyng and yet so simple. I predict a great future for this game aslong EA doesnt drop it like a hot potato.

Sadly the simple fact that it is published by EA causes this game to attract a massive hate train. Shame really, but now it's up to Bioware to convince them they're wrong.
Me? I'm addicted as well. :D
Don't know if it's a good start, yet.
I hated Warframe when it first came out and gradually started to like it as years went by and the game got better. Same with Destiny. Not impressed at first, but I enjoyed it, later on. Anthem I like right away and I'm looking forward to what the future will bring for this game.
Devs are really awesome so far. They are addressing issues quickly. 80% of the things people complained about in the demo and early access has already been fixed in today's patch so it will hopefully be a lot of entertaining content from this point onwards.

Sorry, but this is very wrong. In the division guns are the main gameplay factor, abilities like throwing turrets add a little to it. They are not a playstyle that is viable.

In anthem you can build your gear around abilities and make them gamechanging. The storm is just some fancy techno mage casting spells and he is powerful without firing a single shot.

Imo in that sense anthem is way more an arpg than the division. The whole setting is ok for having magic powers. The division realistic setting is trying too hard to fit into the whole hunting treasures gameplay.

Apparently you have not play it much or recently. Using combos with tech, gear and abilities to cause status effects to enemies are an absolute must for survival on higher difficulty.

Building/crafting/grinding your gear around enhancing certain abilities/tech are very much a thing. Especially for crowd control and dealing groups of elites, bosses and mini-bosses, sorry your information is just incorrect. Also team comp based around who has what tech, weapon talents and enhanced abilities is needed for any higher difficulty or end game content.

Not defending the division, it is still very much a "meh" game imho, but to claim it is just a shooter with some tech thrown in is a falsehood.

Not directly related to your post but it just reminded me.

Many negative reviews I've seen do one annoying mistake - they compare Division, Destiny and Warframe as they are NOW with Anthem at launch, while comparing it with the states of those games as they were at their respective launch versions would be the right thing to do. I generally don't like comparing games (This game is better/worse because of some quality X), but the one objectively comparable thing in common - all of them being live-service - they just mangle up by comparing green bananas to rotten oranges.

So, no single-player? It looks like co-op multi-player is a requirement.

Nope, no classic SP/Offline, its a coop with a story type of deal.

Not entirely true as you can set the matchmaking to private and play the game solo. (just like Elite)
You can do everything solo except the strongholds (something akin to party dungeons in MMOs) - you need to have four javelins to enter. And there is also the difficulty, of course. I have been able to do everything solo on Normal difficulty, but you don't get much good gear, that way (I only got a couple of blue and one purple gear on normal, while in full party on Hard the epics are literally raining down on you)

Naturally, it's nothing like a proper "story mode" singleplayer. But if your main concern is that other players will spoil your story missions, you CAN do them alone (and honestly it really is better that way.)

Soloing the story is advisable, lest you miss out on parts by match-making and loading screens cutting off story bits and cutscenes. Or outright dropping you into final mission spoiling it all in one go. Or just players rushing through and getting it done with without much moment to take it in.

Yeah, exactly. :D

Since you have to pay full price for the Anthem it's fair to judge it on it's release day. You payed for a product, not a promise.
