Am I the only one who thought we would get new payed content in Q1 of 2019?

We pretty much agree, the only difference is that i see the late 2020 as a big delay of whatever was expected. I was waiting paid content from 2018, but we forgot all about that, because of beyond and now the expected paid stuff are renamed as ,"new era" to ease out the additional delay. It all comes out as delay, however they choose to name it. Thats how i see it.

Well I'd prefer something like space legs or atmospheric landings anytime, so I am pretty happy that Frontier wants to release a real expansion rather than pleasing those who don't care about it.

You can never win over everybody, but I do believe that these announcements could be handled in a better way. Most people don't mind the long timeline, they take issue with the "can't give much detail" (no detail at all) part. I think if Frontier had provided at least a tiny bit of detail on what they will be working on over the next 2 years, no matter how vague, we'd see a lot less forum backlash. Personally I think separation anxiety is preferable to an announcement without content.

I also don't agree that providing some detail is in any way a bad thing. No guarantees need to be made. The only legitimate reason for not providing details that I can come up with is if Frontier hasn't yet decided what content will be released by 2020... and that would be somewhat shocking.

So Frontier, please give us some vague idea of what you're working on.

Well yeah, of course they could be handled better. Pol Pot probably did a better job of publicity than FDev.

As for the legitimate reasons for not saying what they're working on though, all I can say is that although you're obviously reasonable enough to grasp that over a two year development timetable there can be slippage as far as targets are concerned and in some cases things might be dropped completely, I haven't seen much evidence to suggest that's the prevailing tone on here overall.

I'd like more information as much as the next man, I'd actually like proper dev diaries to be honest. Thing is, I know that I won't be on here screeching like a five year old if they then say eight months later 'right, we've had had to look again at X and Y and given the state they're in now and what work we still need to do on Z before release, they're getting dropped from this update.' Based on the reactions to ice planets and carriers getting the heave from the last update though, I can imagine that they'd get enough stick if that happened to make them think 'actually no, let's not bother'.

See that's the thing - decisions like the one made to drop that content are made all the time in game development, but players only know about them to lose their minds if they've been told about them by the developer to begin with.

Why are you twisting what i am saying? By saying paid content in Frontier terms, i mean actual content that deserves a price that i would happily pay in order to enjoy new stuff in the game i like and not some stupid cosmetics from the store or an entire ADDITIONAL year of fleshing out and QoL of a dlc that should had all that from the initial year like it should.
And i am not trying to be the guy that doesnt tollerate delays. I know those things happen everywhere and devs can make mistakes no problem with me. But seeing that this is turning out to form a pattern... well i dont like to be treated like that, and on top of that i got the second official announcement of this "new era" with exactly zero details about it for the second time. I personally think that this type of communication is really low.

Because they said Beyond will mostly be a YEAR of QoL improvements, some sort of preparation for the next big thing which should arrive after the 4th and final update.

The fact I don't visit the forums on a regular basis might have something to do with my delusions about new content release schedule...
But after I read the ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE ANNOUNCEMENT™ I was shocked by the number 2020 and by the lack of any details about that game changing stuff that will come.

Anyway, turns out Beyond was not over after one year, it will in fact last 2.5 years total. If not even longer.
I really didn't see that coming.

Why did you not see it coming? They did the same thing with Horizons. At least Beyond was free. I’m glad I spent my money on a bunch of modules in DCS at Christmas. I have lots to keep me busy for 18 months. FD have got no money out of me for 3 years and heading for 4.5. I spend it on other games instead.

I am not trying to make this personal at all, I am just trying to explain my argument. It seems like I am not succesful with that, maybe because I am an idiot or because my English is too bad to bring the point across.

All that I am saying is the 2020 content has not been delayed, at least not from our perspective (we don't know about their initial internal plans). This thread is about the 'next big thing / new era / next Season / new major DLC' stuff. You claimed that this has been delayed, which is factually wrong. What has been delayed (or cancelled, we don't know) is the 'premium content 2018' stuff. The way I understand your posts (and it's entirely possible that I got you wrong, which is why I formulated most of my posts as questions or speculation) is that you don't care wether it's the 2018 stuff or the new era stuff that is going to be released, as long as they release something. Otherwise the whole argument doesn't make sense to me (either because I am too stupid or because it wasn't explained well enough).

I suggest you re-read the OP because it clearly referred to 'the next big thing' which was never supposed to be released in 2018. 2018 was Beyond. There should've been some additional premium content, but it was not the 'next big thing'.

I'm pretty sure that there's not enough content to keep me interested for the best part of another 2 years. Plus given the age of a good portion of the players, how many will have risen to the eternal void, never to see the update.
