One thing that concerned me a little when going to an INRA site to get pictures of the two logo variants was that the site showed up on my Nav panel as Geological Site (5) out of 14. Didn’t show as an installation. Imagine mapping a planet holding a real clue like a new alien site but it shows as a geological site while in SC. Impossible to find at that point.

*correction* that was when going to Jamison’s Cobra. It was “Jamison Crash Site” if I looked for it on the planet itself but “Geological Site (5)” on the Nav Panel

The ship crash site is close to the geological site. They are two separate things.

So I created a "best estimate" version of the Dark Wheel logo from the Codex. Since the left/right of the logo is not visible I had to extrapolate that the logo is circular - I think that's a safe bet.

Possibly the only interesting thing is the fact that the small emblem in the centre of the logo is used on the little book icon (Codex), the Squadron icon and the ship-panel icon (all shown). Is this the logo of the Pilots Federation and, if so, why is it on the Dark Wheel logo in the Codex?

Disclaimer: Remember there's a possibility that the UI department at Frontier has a butt-tonne of spare logos and just"picked one that looked cool"

The logo looks like a orbis starport and center logo is the mailslot

Certainly looks like a Toroid station doesn't it.

With the logo, it might be that it is (or was) actually a logo that indicates independent pilots, rather than it being specifically the logo of the PF. When the founders banded together to form the PF, they may have simply adopted the independent pilots symbol, given that that's what they were.

Tourist beacon says DW is a clique in Pilots Federation. Small logo is from the ranking insignias.
There is a ranking animation somewhere on the net (will search for it). What Thachinho said have sense.

Great job, btw! I played also, and triangles turned out in pentagon parts (have pic somewhere).

EDIT: from CMDR Mobius

We can see the evolution of rankings, ergo I will buy Indepenedent Pilots origin theory.

I shall simply thank you for that amazing post, I now have much to think about in addition to the Raxxla mystery! I shall start by watching the Goats movie, the title always put me off previously. And yes, whilst never a great fan of Roland Rat, (no risk of conflating him with any ancient deities I hope,) I do consider this thread a treasure. 07 CMDR.

You're welcome :D

Rumour has it that close adherence to the mathematical anomalies surrounding the number 6 (3 and 9), has been known to create a temporal bubble of illogical superstition around any ship in the squadron, translating into a zen state loop of shame immunity...

As a consequence, lower level members are known as "Loopers".

It is pretty close, couple hundred kilos or so, but the site, when highlighted manually by targeting it with the ship itself showed the targeted area on the Nav Panel as Geological Site 5.

that’s odd. When I visited I lost the site on entry to glide but reacquired it & then onwards it showed as crash site . Geological site was always visible (after the dss scan).

It must be pareidolia but I found something very like the Raxxla Codex symbol here (at about 1:57):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxLRyoLXcq0
(not sure how to embed a video but maybe the link would be better anyway)
This Obsidian Ant video is from 3301 and I just happened to watch it last night because whatever algorithm YouTube uses to recommend content seems to think anything Thargoids-related is good and I didn't realise it was so old at first. What struck me was the layout of the roads and buildings around the captured Thargoid ship (this was from Frontier: Elite 2) and its similarity to the Codex symbol. I'm not sure if this is even helpful (the location is on Capitol, so this was at the heart of the Empire - a strange place to conduct secret research with a ship like that out in the open!). Does anyone who played/is familiar with FE2 know anything more about the location?

It's a standard outdoor landing pad layout, in Fe:2 and FFe.

I'll make a full picture, when I have the time. It's very similar.

"A battered data canister lies somewhere close to Neumann Camp"

"...You see, the Raxxla symbol is depiction of an implosion assembly. An array of explosives compresses subcritical shell of fissionable material inward, resulting in supercritical mass of radioactive material. The term Raxxla is originally derived from a certain phase of a process known as the Manhattan Project, more precisely a series of tests called the RaLa Experiment, RaLa standing for radioactive lanthanum. During those ancient times, creation of uniform, symmetric explosive compression was not easily produced. Some scientific principles from this era, such as explosive lensing, are still being used in modern spacecraft. One of the unexpected results from these experiments was an occurrence of unexplainable data bursts observed during one of the tests performed by divisions associated with nuclear weapons research. High energy physics was poorly understood at the time, as they were for several subsequent centuries, and the division assigned with study of the assembled data was simply known by as "Raxxla", initially. The nature of these data bursts still remains a mystery, as all associated data has since been highly classified, even to this day. Our organization has over the centuries spent considerably resources on intercepting restricted, and often fragmentary information, and gathering from diverse sources we have come to believe having created a fairly reliable account on what results were made in this study. It would appear they were convinced having contacted some kind of artificial network of wormholes, or higher spatial dimensions capable of passing through information. Some more speculative remarks mention some kind of intelligent design, and "witch space", a term repeated in several documents..."

Neumann camps within Shinrarta. I'm assuming peeps have already taken a look around a set area of Neumann camp as well as the planet its self? Like 100km radius??

I still think it’s possible the dark wheel station is locked in a geo-stationary orbit around the moon in Shinrarta with Neumann Camp on it. I’m currently idling around the dark side of the moon, looking for objects that move independently of the skybox. Hopefully it turns up something.

where was this info pulled out from, or did you run into this source yourself?

Nice! Now overlap La shell on Raxxla symbol. I like radioactive danger symbol in cohesion for the theory.
Good one!

Ya i see i have alot of catching up here :)

Im thinking this is a bread crumb type quest - The first bit being Astrophel and the spiraling stars... (along with the nice bit about the 8th moon of an unnamed gas giant) - will probably lead us to the Dark Wheel station which will lead to the next bit...

Anyhoo I didnt see anyone point this out ...

From: Astrophil and Stella, Sonnet 13

"Jove’s golden shield did eagle sables bear,
Whose talons held young Ganymede above"

Joves golden shield with an Eagle ... sounds familiar

ZZxdUO2.png

He is referencing the taking of Ganymede by Jove in the form of an Eagle. Both the Eagle: Aquila and Ganymede (as later water bearer to the gods) : Aquarius are constellations

Well thats where I am going to start looking for gas giants with eight moons.

What happens to this thread after the change. will it dissapear or is it just a superficial thing?

Just in case:
