Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I should mark today in some fashion. Over a year since I got the game, I actually claimed my first bounty! (And my second as well, for the record). Having been royally put off combat by the combat tutorial which I could never win, as the second ship was always way too maneouverable to get a shot on, I always kept thinking I would “practice it someday, eventually, maybe”.

But today, after a few days messing about on Coriolis, I put together a viable small combat ship, with the intention of using it tentatively in a RES somewhere sometime soon. But as I was flying it back from Shinrata to Sirius to berth up, I came out at a Nav beacon in one system and scanned a small Hauler, which was “Wanted”... I tailed it for a while, and it didn’t deviate from it’s course, and it just looked so so tempting :D So, after making sure I had the next system set and ready to high-wake to if everything got a bit out of hand, I deployed hard points, AND LET IT HAVE IT STRAIGHT UP THE EXHAUST :) :)

Amazingly, I was able to dance circles round it, and finish it off!! Then, flushed with success, I saw the cops attacking a Mamba in the vicinity, so I joined in on that one and rendered it into motes of dust :)

Then, I decided it was time to quit whilst I was ahead, and jumped out to Sirius, where they were pleased to see me, as I had eliminated two targets that had been on the Corporation’s wanted list for a while.

So tonight, my Viper MkIV “Gwynt y Ddraig” (https://s.orbis.zone/2kzh if interested) is going to get a paint-job, and a pat on the hull for doing me proud :) I had read that the MkIV has excellent lateral thrusters, and good heavens, that is so true - it is a joy to fly hard, and lateral thrust with combined yaw seems to get the edge on ships just trying to turn onto you, in my highly limited experience :)

Congrats.
Yes, combat is something many newcomers are scared of, but with an increasing general flying skill, you will find out that there's nothing really hard about it. All hairy moments are usually caused by misjudged situations, but if you're smart about it, not engaging ships (and wings) above your weight class alone and combat is really fun and presents an opportunity to further improve your skills. :)

Still trying to justify getting a Mamba.

Still can't justify it.

LOL

I mean, it's kinda useless but it's pretty. Guess I'll get one and do like Cameron's dad in Ferris Bueller's Day Off and just park it in the garage and look at it every once in awhile. Maybe take it out for a quick burn of speed every once in awhile at the local track.

I think you may be ready for some RES action.

Edit: Eeek! No forums for THREE days! What are they thinking!?

:D

I definitely think it is time to head for a RES and clean up the neighbourhood o7

;)

(I have a feeling the 16 year old me that had such fun spending over 40 minutes a time on runs into an Anarchy system is about to have something of a rennaisance, and go a bit Clint Eastwood in there :D )

When Cameron was in Egypt’s land, let my Cameron go....

If you get one, just make sure it isn’t likely to be taken out by a bunch of teenagers having a day out of school ;)

A good thing about the Mamba is with all the weapons on the top of the ship that you get great concentration of fire on your target, a bad thing about the Mamba is with all the weapons on the top of the ship if one doesn't bear they will all miss.

It is pretty though.

We're back but I'm not used to navigating around here on my phone yet... have to visit the full site.

Aaaanyway. I took two jumps from Diaguandri and found a system that had some unmapped planets. They now have my CMDR name on them. Huzzah.

I'm now preferring the "new" explo model to the old way.

I have been getting the hang of mining for void opals. My last 90 minute session netted me over 124 million credits. I already have enough to buy a Corvette, but I am going to bank a lot more credits before I make that purchase. I want to have plenty in the bank after I get that ship and fully outfit it. Plus I think once I make over 1 billion credits (i'm halfway there already) I will make Trade Elite so I will have access to Jameson Memorial so I can head there to get the Corvette and outfit it all in one shot.

Having once had a billion credits and still not being Trade Elite I should like to point out that it is only credits from trade activities that count bounties and bonds definitely don’t count neither I think does exploration money.

Me I am still out surface mining and trying to learn how to drive up precipices.

I am also trying to get used to the new forum.

ATM after guardian materials to build me a Guardian FSD booster, finally yesterday got the patience to try it and complete the puzzle at the ruins that gives u the blueprint, lost a SRV and almost lost a second to the sentinels, but did it.

As soon as i gather and build the booster ill be back into the Federal Rank grind, got to leutenant and took a break to do this, it is boring, too long, and really makes u wonder if u should continue it... But i do want that Corvette so will stick with this for the moment.

Hmm.... getting odd errors trying to log in from the ED Launcher.

And I just took my T9 out again with a pile of biowaste. Weeeooo, what a stink! It'll take the ground crew a while to get rid of the odour. What DO they feed space cows on Rothman Vista? Anyway, that ship is a hulking behemoth. I might take it to a RES and see how she fares. Hmm? What do you mean? :poop:
