ANNOUNCEMENT April Update - Coming 23 April 2019

Just read through the replies. I'm not concerned in the least about automation, I am assuming that manual control will still be optimal (we'll see).

Seems to me the biggest issue is HRPs in the new slots - this could be solved my restricting them as reverse-military slots preventing the fitment of HRPs, MRPs and SCBs.

Good job by FDev today (Will in particular) for clarifying queries, I hope this continues to stem the theory crafting (like my assumption that manual control will continue to be optimal).

Beginners' Zone - don't know, I personally found Solo to be perfectly OK as a beginner, but then again, my preference these days is for single player games.
New Modules
Advanced Docking Computer
- Long overdue. Don't have a need for that most of the time (plus, ramming smaller suicidal NPC vessels out of the slot is not entirely unpleasant) but glad to see this option. Very useful when trading. Suggestion: more stations with external landing pads would be nice (so more designs for new and old space stations, for example: static external landing pad with a rotating torus, sphere or cylinder attached to it)
Supercruise Assist - Long overdue. The orbiting option is going to be extremely useful, so thank you for that. With the current mechanics, I found probing highly annoying, so much so that I started avoiding it.
Free module slots for everyone! - They will not be free, they will come at a cost of increased ship mass (unless these new modules are zero - weight). And as much as it's nice to see more internal slots in small sizes (more flexibility in layouts - yay!), I'd rather see Docking Computers and Supercruise Assist to be a part of standard equipment on every ship, with the option to switch them off in options (and/or a key bound to these functions).
Navigation Tab - sounds good, hope it's executed well too.
Pilot's Handbook - can be useful
Trading Screen Improvements - very much welcome, might be tempted to do some trading and gain a few more Bn, I've been lagging behind the plan here.
Interstellar Initiatives - no difference and not an issue to me. OK, i guess?
...and there's more! - Looks good.

Overall, this may be a very good update, so fingers crossed. Two things are missing from it (apart from ADC and SA not being standard equipment):
1. Planetary navigation - ability to locate coordinates using surface map
2. Ability to add custom way points on planetary surfaces.

Someone drop also this one on discord

if this this is the new hud I dont like it

Looks like the pitchfork-wielding mobs accomplished their mission yesterday by forcing Frontier's hand. Now we can take the pitchforks back to the barn and sharpen them up for the post-patch pitchfork-wielding mob extravaganza. :p

This seems to be a meatier patch than I dared hope for. I am particularly intrigued by the revamped autopilot, as well as the supercruise assist. The Player's Handbook sounds like a great idea, too (I hope either it or the codex include information as to where to mine specific minerals - that is some in-game help this game desperately needs). I also hope the Navigation Panel finally includes the Security State of a system. That is probably one of the most important pieces of information a pilot can have yet we can only learn it in the pre-jump sequence, or by leaving the cockpit to check out the system info screen. I am interested to see how "threat level" works with a system's security state. And the trade data improvements are very welcome!

All in all, this sounds like it will be a nice update to the game. 13 days and counting....

How will the changes to the community challenges affect the "Working together" and "A real team player" trophies/achievements for partaking in 1 and 10 successful community challenges respectively? Will we get 1 notch towards the 10 for each successful 'stage' of an event i.e. multiple notches during each event, or will we have to complete 10 of them wholely and thereby the entire process will take ~10 months?

I'd really appreciate a reply. Thanks.

Community: We want more content and meaningful ways to interact with the game.
FDev: Here's two new mechanics which mean you can interact less with the game.
Community: Yay, well done FDev
Me: 🤔 I just don't get it.

Each to their own... personally I bought this game to FLY a spaceship... not be a passenger. At least the Interstellar initiatives sound interesting. 👍

Different parts of the community I think. This update is aimed at 'improving the new player experience' so if you're not a new player you can still use the stuff if you want to, but it isn't aimed at you.

I started theorising how gankers will take advantage of the new ‘harmless only’ systems. My prediction is they will start alt accounts and seal club in sidewinders using superior skills and just clear the account when they progress. Then I thought then I could start an alt account and hunt the gankers in my sidewinder. OMG a level playing field... real PVP!!!

I'm guessing most CMDRs don't write their own bots, and since unlike data scans in ED, code in 2019 can be copied, that means anybody who has access to the "dark web bot seller" can get today's current "hard bot". Personally I think all this bot paranoia is overblown, but I'm on PS4 where there are no bots :p

now THAT is a good idea. just keep rerolling. wouldnt even have to buy the whole game, just the core game for a new account.

Hello 👋 devs, , a Great updates especially the advanced docking computer, also is there any chance we can have the ability to team up with an npc to do missions bounty hunting?

The way I'm reading it, they become permit-locked after you get at least one Elite rank.

I guess I’m reading it differently because I don’t see the words “elite rank” in Will’s statement. It just says they can stay in it until their first “combat, trade, or exploration rank”. Meaning as soon as they hit whatever the second level is in any of those paths, they’re forced out of the starter worlds??. So a beginner should play each path carefully so they don’t (for example) hit the second level in trade before they’ve even tried exploration?? That’s a pretty taunt tightrope for a newbie to walk.
