Roadmap leaked??

It's irrelevant if people want Space Legs or not. It's a feature promised since the Kickstarter campaign, so it will arrive at one point or another. If Frontier decided it needs to be done before anything else, I'm sure they had a good reason and they didn't just toss a coin on this.

I would personally love to fly through the clouds of a gas giant, but at the same time I recognize that Space Legs can unlock a lot more gameplay options and supply the Frontier store with a better flow of cash.
Let's correct this .... yet again ....
"Space Legs" otherwise referred to as walking around, or EVA (Extra-Vehicular Activity) was NOT promised during the kickstarter. The only things promised were those specified in the actual pledges. The closet Frontier got to promising walking around, and the same is true of atmospheric landings, was "we'll see" (I'm paraphrasing, but that was pretty much what was said).

THIS COMMUNITY has played Chinese whispers with things like this over the past 7 years. Some people remember what actually happened, and some engage in wishful thinking. It is very important to know which is which.

So in your mind, if FDev didn't use the exact words "WE PROMISE", this is not valid from the Kickstarter page?

The initial release of Elite: Dangerous doesn't mark the end of development. We intend to continue expanding the game both with new content and new features. A good example of this is planetary landings. We have an ambitious goal for landings to include new gameplay and a rich variety of worlds to explore. To achieve our goal we want the planets to come to life. We also want to add leaving the ships so you can explore space stations or board enemy vessels or even just to look around your own.

Come on the LEP has been sold with EVA specifically listed. It is not Chinese whispers at all. EDIT: if you want to be ultra-pedantic, the fulfillment of the Kickstarter pledges did not mention Elite Feet to be released in the initial version of ED, however as quoted by Cocalarix, they have committed to it longer term.

Ah those newsletters, I miss those.

Exactly. It's the same reason people pay for paintjobs (and many want Frontier to make them earnable in-game). Having a sense of ownership and place is as much a part of the fantasy as blowing things up for cash.
I do so wish there were basic paintjobs and kits earnable in the game, with some premium ones for cash. Personally I am only interested in earning stuff in game. A skin bought with cash means nothing to me which is why I never had an issue with the KSer plan of putting everything in game earnable in game but allow cash for credits in the shop. I would then have earned stuff myself.
As a compromise I would love a DLC a 1 off fee and if you buy it then it adds some difficult hand crafted missions pop up on occasion where part of the reward could be a skin, bobblehead, shipkit or space suit. Others could be found when scavaging wrecks etc
This would be a massive long term in game goal then to unlock all kits etc in the game all done in game.

Memories, in the corner of my mind........

Lol, this could be pretty lucrative if you managed to grab a conda, cutter or corvette. People are always on the move in space, but when docked to stations their just sitting rabbits. The gameplay possibilities imo. Wait for the cmdr to leave the ship than hack and steal or storm/board the ship while their still inside 😂. I’d prob sneak aboard while the cargo door is open and go for a joy ride before despatching the unsuspecting cmdr. The age of the Elite thieves will be upon us if stealing becomes a thing.
I would love this feature but I think it would only really work with npcs

If base building did indeed become a thing, I think people should only be allowed to build one base, not multiple bases, per person. If one wanted to build their base somewhere else they would need to dismantle their existing base.

Also, I think some systems or planets should be permit-locked from building bases, so the tourist spots or important sites (e..g Guardian/Thargoid sites) don't get littered with player's bases.
One way to control this would be we don't choose where we build the base but we get a mission to do it, when we have a certain rep with a faction we get a mission from that faction to set up a colony then we get subsequent missions to supply them and help them out. At some point we may get some limited control ie if we do good enough job with the basics we can choose from a list of structures we can help add which in turn would give the base extra services.
Depending on the politics etc of the system would give the looks a certain flavour so they don't all. Look alike (this is one issue I have with bases now, an empire system looks the same as federation or alliance which is a shame imo

Not saying its the best way, but the method ST:O uses is a possibility. That being there is only one base location - or maybe one per major faction. When you arrive for the first time it's just a basic abandoned shell, which you can get a licence to use/upgrade. Everyone only sees their own instance (if any).

Until you want to change something, this being an online-game, the server would have to check for "legal" changes. I think these would only happen during the weekly downtime (at least at that point, nobody could get synchronisation issues).
why? update to exploration data are added and seen by all other palyers instantly.

Again, you seem to misunderstand the difference between what was promised in the kickstarter, and what wasn't promised but a "we'd like to see those things as well, but who knows?"
As if I needed to prove it to you even more .... Now, if Frontier had promised atmospheric landings and walking around, surely Paige's reply to me would have been something like "Yes, we did promise those things in the kickstarter, and while we can't specify when, we assure you they will come." Isn't it strange how Paige's reply doesn't say that?

April 2017

“It’s coming, but obviously it’s not imminent, but it is coming and it is planned.” ~ David Braben.

I know this is hard to accept, but things David Braben says does not equal things that are actually coming. Otherwise we'd have big game hunting in Elite Dangerous by now.
Frontier have a marketing dept and a PR dept and Community Managers for a reason, and believe it or not, David Braben can, and probably is, often overruled on more things than we realise.

Those are the standard communicative responses received from Frontier whenever a question is asked and means rock all.

However, the LEP was sold with EVA specifically mentioned (interestingly not atmospherics) and it cannot be sold with "yeah, you may get EVA but if we just keep the money and not deliver you anything, then tough :poop:"

No it wasn't. The LEP was sold to push the kickstarter. Anyone below (I think) £85 was encouraged to up their pledge to help the kickstarter meet its goal. I do not ever recall (this means I could be wrong) seeing "Buy the lifetime expansion pass and we'll promise to deliver walking around"

@Barking Mad - Did you see WHY I tagged as many as I did? I don't think so. Think about it, what did I achieve? Why did I even bother tagging David Walsh when I know full well he's only ever made two posts on this forum (search for posts by him if you don't believe me)?

Id like to belive legs are comming. It is what keeps me playing elite

Ive aways saw elite as a space simulator and not a spaceship simulator. So eva would be part of the experience. Having that confirmed to be cancelled would make me shelf the game for sure.

I can understand why they keep quiet about the issue, so they dont lose player with a mindset like mine.

I dont apreciate, but i understand.
