Thank You FDev

I'm all for the odd thread where people say what they're happy with, what changes have made the game better for them, etc. Most of us here love this game and it's nice to say so. And it's good to have a bit of balance here.

But none of this invalidates the complaints. After all, most people complaining also love the game, but they'd love it more if some things were different. I don't think we need to tell anyone to shut up about their disgruntlement, and I don't think we should want to either.

Obviously, this doesn't cover the people who come here to moan about how the anaconda they never learnt to fly isn't invulnerable and doesn't have a million light year jump range. Have a go at them all you like.

Thank you FD for not really knowing what to do with ED after releasing it and for creating it in such a way that you are unable to add any fun ermergent gameplay that doesnt rely on a weekly server tick.

;):)

I partly agree, but only on behalf of the Indie dev.
FDev is a big Company and they run a tight business model,
whereas a small developer can be very much affected and demotivated by negativity,
it's not the case with AAA devs.
That's just not true! An individual or team who have worked on a feature that then gets abused online is likely to be affected whatever sized company they work for!

How the hell do you know? There are some KS backers that have invested hundreds of £'s in the game.
Customers have a right to complain whether you, FDev or anyone else likes it or not.
There's complaining, and there's whinging, whining spoiled-child attitude. Just be positive - be nice. You can suggest a change in a positive or negative manner.

"Great testing again, FDev" isn't positive, isn't helpful in any way whatsoever.

So if you find a problem, document it, give details and let them know so they can fix it = that will help everyone.

And yes, some people will have invested more than others, but generally speaking I don't think people have spend as much on ED than on any other AAA game out there - most of which just get released and left alone...

As I've said elsewhere, if you have a complaint, complain nicely, and productively.

If you are in a restaurant and your meal is served cold, you can throw a wobbler and shout and rage, or you can politely ask for a replacement.

Regardless of what you get, your affect on the staff will be markedly different...

I already said "thank you" with my wallet. Since they're not willing to return my money, they will have to endure my complaining criticism, because they've been paid with the same money from the first sentence.
Great attitude. "I paid for it so I'm entitled to whinge for the rest of my life"

Why not look at it as:

You bought into the community, your now a community member with an opinion as valid as everyone else's. Put forward your opinions in a positive way, and listen to other's opinions, and if necessary constructively criticise.

This does happen. It is also ignored. Do you know what an LEP is btw?

Is this OP anything more than a bit of virtue signalling while at the same time trying to push their own opinion? Surely if you wanted to boost morale at Fdev you should write them a nice email or perhaps say sometihng nice in a live stream. Or perhaps even contact mr Braben on twitter and ask him to pass your good wishes along to the team.....
Or buy something.

In an unrelated thread for an open source project, I was just reading how the developer is affected by negative comments.
And I came here, and read so many, many negative comments.

I love Elite Dangerous.

With the possible exception of the Half Life series, it's my most played game ever.

Most games I bought 5 years ago are long forgotten. Not ED.

It is immersive, fun, hard, frustrating, amazing, beautiful, and sounds awesome.

It has some parts that I don't like, some that I love. But to me, that demonstrates the depth of this game.

We all (and I include FDev here) wish we didn't introduce bugs - but when you're dealing with legacy software, it's a fact of life - if you want to release you can only test so much

As for changes - like the FSS, and other enhancements, sure - there may be people who liked the old way - but we all just need to suck it up and get on with it - honestly - you didn't spend THAT much on this game.

So - users out there - please, stop the negativity. Stop posting the sulky "I'm never playing again because of the honking changes" posts. and especially stop posting the sarcastic posts.

ED is a great game. The team responsible have a hard job keeping the players happy - but let's support them - let's help them. Let's be a positive community.

And if we make a suggestion, and give reasons, and it doesn't get implemented - well, let's move on with our lives rather than sniping.

So, as the subject says - thank you, Frontier Developments., for a game I love.
Are you kidding?
The last patch killed the functionality of the 2nd most important mechanic in the game, the ability to find something to fly to.
There is no excuse for failing to test something that obvious and that important and most importantly that simple to test.
Its obvious FD dont care at all about the playerbase or its ability to actually play the game, because if they did they would do at least cursory testing.
Whats even more infurating than the 3rd rate development is FD's obvious expectation that they can keep players by delivering the half hearted incompetence in the last patch, that we, the game playing public, are stupid enough to just lay down and tolerate what ever they throw at us. After my experience with ED I will never buy another Frontier game and i bet im not alone in thinking that.
You can keep your hearts and flowers, i want a playable game.

When you can explain to me how Powerplay became the paper thin attempt at player agency, and how even tho' the tech couldn't support it they shoved in a broken multicrew element or how Free 2 Play game mechanics have been constantly inserted into the game or the poor <redacted> Thargoid invasion being hidden behind instancing - all, over adding more planet type landings, gas giants, comets, space anomalies - darn, even space legs...

Holo-Me looked like a good intro for spacelegs: Nothing, Planet Coaster showed they could do NPC crowd simulation - nothing! (except those sad lorries going round and round equally spaced inside the spaceports). Powerplay, a shifting dynamic political / economics model - nothing... The galaxy still feels as sterile as when it was first released, bolting disparate elements onto the main gameplay loops isn't introducing depth when nothing is really interconnected, it's just different stuff you can do that doesn't relate to anything else.

Not to mention that engineering just broke PVP (every MMO game in existence strives for combat balance - except for ED), a laughable Crime & Punishment system, High Sec or Anarchy systems barely makes a difference and why call unexplored sectors Anarchy states when no one lives in them? Where is the guiding hand for this project? because from where I'm sitting there doesn't seem to be one.

Then I'll stop complaining!

Nor will i, that said i dont expect they will make anything i want to buy. I will also share my opinion with others that they shouldnt buy. As they are totally ignoring my own personal complaints i have nowhere else to turn.

I know it does happen - but not all the time.
And I honestly doubt it is actually ignored - more likely there is a reason for your 'request' not being implemented - just that you're not privileged to know the reason.

And yes, I do know what a LEP is - why?

The point is: those who complain, who complain constructively, proposing alternatives, flagging problems, and politely asking for transparency, love the game. They love the game possibly more than the “OMG this is so amazing, everything is awesome” people. For if Frontier only listened to you, the game would never change, never progress, and keep stagnating in its present half baked form.

Well, it severely wounded it, it didn't kill it. :)
And, while software should be tested, testing is, I'm afraid, very hard and expensive - especially when it comes to real time multiplayer experiences.

Yes it is frustrating and annoying, but ranting and doing the 'not going to buy from them again' thing is not really going to help that - what will help is giving them help to fix the problem - details when and where it happens etc.
