Elite is shaping up to be brilliant, start shouting about it FD!

like at the developers session at EGX London today you mean?! or even at the event itself, directly engaged with their public.

or the interview DB gave to the BBC TV world wide tech show half an hour before he hit EGX?

the ED campaign has been low key, guerilla style and direct to their public from day one of the kickstarter. FDEV are simply being very effective with their limited monies. and they are not spending with 3rd parties on classic advertising and the game itself will be better for it.

wait until next tuesday and then let's see what jo public says :D

ps: use twitter, it is a great tool.

Well that comment from Mobius is really sad. More for what it implies.
I've always looked up to him.

To me his judgment is quite heavy. But I have to concur.
I can only follow the Forums and newsletter/Galnet combo- and what I've collected so far is really little info.

I don't even know what a goodie bag is. :/

Hehe, really? You must be joking?

It tells you what the goodie bag is on the first page of this post, which is updated daily be Kerrash ;)

Is there a recap of DB's talk at EGX? Sorry 7AM PDT (15:00 BDT) is too early and a very busy time for some of us across the pond who have to prepare for work/school.

There wasn't a great deal of news, I was there so don't worry nothing extra was said off camera. We got a glimpse of the new stations but nothing new was said, some things hinted at (Thargoids and some areas will be closed off for future dev and events). It was actually quite short and a bit disappointing, I had expected a massive surprise announcement like the ED app. But doesn't matter though only a few days to wait.

BUT

If you visited the stand you could play the beta 2 build and it looks incredible at 4k. Also lots of new gfx so it looks even better. Cant wait.

A big congratulations to all the people at the ED stand, great atmosphere really nice and helpful ambassadors and Frontier staff. :)

I'm not sure about now, but if Icy(Firey)toad did stream it this afternoon then he normally puts some of his streams up on youtube later, so it may well be there. He may even pop on to tell us...

:)

i want this goods bag!!!
i opened a twitter account just for it... :p

do i need to post the # every day? or just once?
is posting it multiple times helps? :p
will you be able to deliver it to israel if i win??? :D

Ah, I thought they advertised it as a "celebration"... sorry, I didn't realised it was just a marketing ploy.... that explains it. :D

I hate to say it because Frontier does so much right and David seems so down to earth to me and recognizes folks supporting Elite and also I think he remembers FD are just making games despite many cool things like the stellar forge.

But the marketing folks should be spanked royally for this celebration. The wording they use for something like this needs to be precise and honest.

I am sure many members of the community are happy to promote the game, and already do. They really should explain this.

This is the second snafu from Marketing using wording that I consider a serious bomb that needs at least an apology to the backers of all levels. They need to correct it now and it would be relatively easy to do so.

Michael, David, anyone?

Send a Twit every day.
:D

I imagine they will pay the post to you if you win, as it is not so heavy.

It shouldn't be overly surprising though. I mean we are all here pretty close to this game, about as close as we can get without being in the dev team and whilst we sometimes wish for more information, we do pretty much get whatever there is relatively hot off the press.

What that means is that this information IS the news for the rest of the world. This will have been new stuff for all those not yet paid up to play.

If Frontier had held information back and done a reveal at EGX you would have people on here moaning that we weren't told first. :p

It's the way things happen now.

That's very much how I saw it, egx was to get the news out there to the non-beta backers. I've managed to get a friend at work to take up the beta. Once he played it his reaction was "why have I wasted the last few months of my life not playing this game" he's 23 so doesn't have the background that's those of us who are over 30 have. He'd never heard of elite and even David Braben, I know crazy right!!

Our job as current backers is to spread the word, even to those who say it's not their type of game!

Also I'm sure it's actually better for them to do a marketing campaign just before release. I think there is a big market out there to tap into, whereas a certain other game may exhaust its market before release, which means sales post release may not be what people expect.

Was at EGX yesterday and loved the fact that there were kids coming in to try playing the game. The stand was well organised I thought with a circular demo area and circular queue around it which let those waiting watch the game being played over the shoulders of the players. Hopefully the game gathered some new fans.
