Cobra Mk IV

Best solution? Make it available in game generally, but only place that sells it is Shinrarta Desrata. Take the exclusive-only, deal-is-a-deal selfishness and nuke it from orbit after being peed on by a dyslexic dog.

Nice idea but it is possible to get to Shinrarta Dezhra access can be gained without the need for a commander to purchase Horizons (the original hook that started this).
A better place would be to only make it available at I Sola Prospect in Brestla.

As a planet side space dock, it would by extension mean that the commander has bought the Horizons add-on.

The docking computer has always been in the game since launch.

Anyway, pretty sure FD will want to entice people to pre-order 4.0 next year with some exclusive thing. And that wont work if the previous exclusive thing turns out to be not exclusive at all. They'll be shooting themselves in the foot...
No, they will be shooting themselves in the foot if they ever do something exclusive like that again.
It was a joke. A bad brexit related joke ;)
Ah, my bad, sorry.

The issue isnt how many want it, how many have it and how many of those would be happy for others to now have it. The issue is it was released as an exclusive reward, to go back on that is a very slippery slope very few companies are prepared to step foot on. Once your word is seen to mean very little it is very hard get back trust

Was the CM4 unlocked during betas? I can't remember - some betas unlocked other ships 🤔

This is all rather fun as I know that if everyone did get access to it there would be complaints about how bad it is, followed by 99.9% of CMDRs never touching it again (don't think I've taken mine out in more than a year). A case of I want what I can't have y'all CM4 campaigners are all Veruca Salts ;)

Okay, then prepare for them shooting themselves in the foot again. And earning millions while doing so. I am sure some random gamer knows best about this stuff, rather than all those companies earning piles of money via this practice year after year.
In most cases timed exclusives or pure cosmetics, which is perfectly ok.

As bad as it may be, i still want one.
For example, i plan to prep a Crusader (or should i say a Cursader?) the least owned ship in the game... way below C4

They'll be shooting themselves in the foot. What matters isn't what 'the community wants', but what the community spends their money on. And I am quite sure that gamers are more likely to pay for exclusives that actually are exclusive, which is why we have them in the first place.
I stand corrected about docking computers. :) Honestly though I don't particularly care whether it's opened up or not, it would just be nice to have the complete collection. Merely a minor annoyance. There's so much more I'd rather they fix instead of putting in the few seconds it would take to unlock it for all.

I am fairly confident FD learned their lesson and any exclusive content will be skins and kits and bobbleheads etc...... or at the very least be TIMED exclusives.

maybe they will reboot the entire game in 2020.... start from scratch using similar assets and what not, putting in fixes and designs from the start based on what was learned to that point, but as it is a new game the cobra IV could be a core ship. The more things go on the more i hope this is the case (though the adage careful what you wish for does come to mind!!!! features i care dearly for could also legitimately be on the chopping block then with no defensible position - the modes and VR for instance)

...and this is where we differ in opinion on how Frontier could handle this.

A simple, robust, statement to effect of

'...as part of simplifying our game, we will be making all ships available to all commanders who have purchased the Horizons add-on...'

would be sufficient. It would generate a little bit of noise from the 'entitled' for don't want to share the toys that they bought three years ago.

Frontier have had to make similarly difficult communications in the past regarding moving to a 64-bit game or moving away from MAC. In the case of the MAC announcement, that was in direct contradiction to the original kick-starter commitment.

It is just easier for Frontier to keep quiet on the subject and pretend it doesn't exist. Opening up the Cobra MkIV to a wider audience is just a toxic subject and they steer clear from commenting on any Cobra MkIV threads. Frontier haven't formally acknowledge any of the many Cobra MkIV threads for months now and I can see why.

They responded over and over, and even added it to the support faq. The cobra MK4 will not be made available. It doesn't get any clearer than that.

I would gladly pay extra real cash just to complete my collection. Having any piece of gameplay affecting content locked away to only people who preordered should be a practice that is considered illegal. I don't like preorder bonuses, but at least most companies that include gameplay related bonuses in their preorder marketing have the sense to allow people to purchase them at an additional charge. See the latest few installments of Mortal Kombat for examples alongside Tekken 7. All 3 of these games had a character that, does in fact affect gameplay, that you got for free with your preorder. They knew that to keep the field stable and competitive, they had to give late adopters a way to obtain those characters, even though it would cost extra. FDev could make some extra cash if they would just open the gates and allow people to complete their collection by buying the ability to have that "exclusive" ship. At this point, it's more a case of morals in my opinion. I hope they don't pull a stunt like this for the 2020 update, because if they do I won't recommend anyone purchase the game after the launch because they won't get the "complete" experience.

In all honesty, the commander deluxe edition should come with this ship instead of the skin packs currently present in that bundle.

TLDR: exclusive preorder bonuses should never affect gameplay in any way and should be cosmetic only unless they are sold later at additional cost.
