Could Frontier please demonstrate how to use the FSS enjoyably?

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Hello Commanders,

I wanted to drop in and let you that we have been reading your comments and are aware how some of you feel about the FSS.

When first designing the FSS, we wanted to ensure that it was engaging for as many different player types as possible, but also understood that it would not be possible to design a system that would work for everyone. Before the FSS was implemented, we also collected feedback from discussions on the forum and the beta.

Today, in its current iteration, we’re happy with how the FSS operates and feel that reinstating the ADS would be detrimental to the experience of exploration as it is now.

At the current time, we won’t be making changes to the core of the FSS. While we understand that this may be disappointing for some of you, we would like to thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and feedback with us.

It's appreciated that FD acknowledge feedback and let everyone know what their current thinking is regarding the game design. Thanks for posting this.

Yeah I think Frontier got the FSS right. Maybe some tweaks for keyboard and mouse usage, but it is a vast improvement over the old ADS from a gameplay perspective. I'd rather Frontier now focus on adding more interesting things to find with said FSS.

Could You please link the mentioned post?
I'll try when I'm back at my pc but there was a LOT of discussion when the FSS was first shown and during beta and it'll be buried in a thread.

To summarise my understanding (and for folk reading please correct me if I'm wrong) it has nothing to do with finding more ELWs etc in themselves (and definitely not the credits) and everything to do with interesting or unusual system/body configurations and orbits. You could see this at a glance from the ADS but you need to go through the full FSS scan now. I enjoy this but it's put a time sink in front of their gameplay.

The FSS has introduced plenty of players to the idea of getting out there for a bit of a look/see, but it didn't need to be at the expense of existing players.

We can have both :)

I play since 1.2, have about 4200 hours in the game. I'm what you would call an "existing player".

Yet, I love the new FSS/DSS mechanics. That shows it's about tastes and what exactly you're calling exploration. Meanwhile, as soon as my Phantom is ready, I'm going back out there, with no sympathy towards the now-deceased old mechanics.

I wonder who remembers the word “Placeholder”? It’s been used to describe virtually every feature in the game since day one. And the people did chant this word, “Placeholder” again and again, until their jaws did froth and the Developers’ ears did bleed.

And it came to pass the “Placeholder” was replaced. Some of the people rejoiced. Some were struck dumb and silent. And some did cry out “Why did you take my Placeholder, and give me Content in its place?”

A Reading from the Book of Contradictions.

Praise be to RNGesus. He may or may not save you.

Consumer: "Oh, Look! Frontier are bringing out a game with a 10 year development plan. I want that!"
Developer: "We've made changes 5 years in to the game, replacing an item that is no longer viable"
Consumer: "How dare you change my game!"
Developer: "?????"

I think Adam was fairly succinct - r.i.p. ADS - sadly you no longer have a place in our game.

You seem to be new to this discussion...
New to the most recent incarnations perhaps. I was asking devs 'is that it?' back in 2014 and gave up in the end, I've really enjoyed exploring this past 6 months.

I think it's unfair to characterise those who don't like the FSS as whiners, they've lost something they enjoyed and they've got every right to ask for it back.
Regardless I'm glad you've gotten something you enjoy.

If a choice you did not want is removed you have nothing to complain about. If a thing is added that you like there is nothing to complain about there either.
If the old modules had not been removed you would still have everything you have now, you would still be happy.

I don't mind the FSS, I like the benefit of being able to scan at a distance, it just didn't need to be at the expense of the players happy with the old stuff.

This is a situation where there is an option to keep everyone happy that was not taken by FDev. I'd like to know why. I'd like them to put as much care & consideration into this exploration update as was done for all other updates to existing features, including the April update.

I don't want to take anything away from what's already there without good reason. There is no good reason that I can see for removing the old modules.

Your logic is unsound. Things change, and when those changes are queried they are either reversed or they are justified. Usually pretty well straight away.

If you are happy with the new stuff, putting the old stuff in will not make your game worse. If you are concerned about the actions of other players min/maxing then that's all on jump range (hours or days of travel time), not time to scan a system (seconds or minutes).

Sorry, old chap, my logic is perfectly sound.
The game is a 10 year plan - it is going to evolve - which means that it will change. The removal of the ADS was in the Developers remit for the game, they do not have to 'consult' to make changes. It has been made clear, the ADS is gone, the story is over, try to accept that those who saw its removal as an abomination, or 'oversight', have been informed by the Lead Developer that it is not to return.

The horse is dead, not sleeping.

The functionality of the ADS is not gone forever, it is still in the game to be seen by any player in pre-tagged or pre-populated systems.

Our views are very close on this - stuff gets added, stuff gets changed. It is justified. This wasn't justified. It needs to be justfied or if there is no good reason, reverted.

If no customer was affected, or no customer raised an issue I would agree. However lots of customers have been severely affected (ie no longer play or have unwillingly changed how they play) four years after the game launched because stuff was removed when it didn't need to be (AFAIK).

I really don't see the problem with the FSS. Why does everyone hate it so much ?
It doesn't matter why, there is no right or wrong, we all have different tastes.
I hate liver, and won't eat it.
I hate the FSS, and won't explore with it. Turning in circles looking for blue blobs became very boring, very quickly.
That's all.
