The Star Citizen Thread V10

I have no problem getting better hardware to get better perfs (given it's not related to a poorly optimized game), or enjoy even more the vistas it offers. I have one when it's needed because of whacky UI/UX decisions for example.

I tried 3 x Samsung 4k 55” and it was glorious :)

Sadly my rig doesn’t have the grunt to push all those pixels so it was only really fluid at 1080 each - but was still heaps of fun, though my usual 3x 23” is much more practical.

Star Citizen has always been a bit wonky on multimonitor - especially with some elements of the UI not scaling or registering clicks in the apparently apppropriate area, as the actual button is not scaled to match.

I do hope CIG doesn't bet solely on people getting expensive hardware to magically get over their own bad habits and stinky (or simply lack of) design.

You mean you didn't buy an Optane for the full Idris experience? Or the official SC faceware cam that never materialised? ("Coming in early 2018", Ok, you get a pass on that one)

That would be like using a big monitor (or several) and TrackIR for flight Sims rather than VR.

So… you prefer to pay more for less quality? That doesn't make much sense…
I think there is a severe misunderstanding here.

If i have X3 43" screens in 4K resolution with everything i need that is about 1500 USD.
A GOOD 4K short throw projector is more expensive than that and usually start on the cheap side at 1000 USD and easily go up towards 3000 USD.
And that's not counting a good projector screen - not to mention i need proper lightning or rather lack of light for the projector to work properly.

Yes.

My point was that the combination “cheap + screen” ends up being expensive, because it's a quality that pretty much guarantees you'll be looking for a replacement much sooner and ultimately pay more in total than a good option. So by shelling out for the “cheap” you get less quality and a higher total cost than in you had shelled out of the “good.”

I run 2 of those 4K Philips monitors and for productivity work its well worth it i.e. CAD/CAM, Music, Video and Financial Modelling. Think of them as 4 x 21" 1080p screens wall mounted (or 8 in my case), without all the bezels. For gaming its a choice, but I only use VR for that these days...

Came to look at the latest SC news, found the thread had been repurposed as Screen Comparison, went off to check out the hamsters ;)

Well, the latest is that 3.6 is out to the PTU, things are still buggy, we now have a menu for TrackIR and facetracking in settings and i tried out the auto-tracking gimbals.

Still mainly a tech demo and the MMO part of it really needs more NPC's to feel alive.

New very large space stations have been added instead of the regular truckstops but the interior is for the moment the same, this will be added a little later.

I have to say, the new exterior to some space stations looks dope.

Yeah, its a nice design. But there again, i don't think people have generally had a go at CIG for their designs (except when obviously ripped off) and graphics.

True.

What will be interesting is what they (hopefully) will do with the interior of the stations.

I mean, if they just go with some expanded canned interiors i will be incredibly dissapointed since they could rather easily make a procedural interior design with an entire "ring" corridor all around the entire station with interior areas further in to explore.

Not to mention that they want to add these stations as abandoned objects that players can fight over which would require them to make some meaningful interiors.
