Crystalline Clusters Vanishing?

I heard on "Week in review" that the Meta Alloy barnacles are dwindling and the authorities are searching for new sites.

There are 2 bugs affecting Crystal Shards at the moment
1) crystals seems to be vanishing after being shot
2) a certain variety of crystal shape has no collision detection and it falls through the ground. so rush and try to pick them from the air.

both bugs already have multiple reports on issue tracker, please add to one or another based on your case - dont create new reports

also mentioned here and next post

Heh - what are the chances this is somehow related to the upcoming "scarcity" of barnacles?

I don't think so. It rather had to do with a long thread on Reddit and a bit later another long thread here about these Crystal Shards. Obviously the sites were visited often after this by many player, and so an important (senseless and unfunny as usual) material time sink was endangered. Hence - instead of simply reducing the spawn rates they 'implemented' the nerf by forcing players to shoot and then watch materials disappearing to force more time investment. Not funny, looks like a bug, but I don't think it is one. Does not matter that you have to fly around 2000 ly down and another 2000 ly back.

The entire game sadly has not too much content but is full of time sinks, where simple things take a lot of time because of the way they are implemented. This is just another one. You still can fill up your raw materials this way, but it takes several hours longer. Mission accomplished. Thank you Fdev.

It seems to be a bug - probably introduced in the bug factory that was the April Patch.
Actually 2 different bugs, with the mention that mine (the "through the floor" one) can be somehow countered if you are fast enough to catch them while floating.

Obvious salt farmer is obvious.

The colliders on those shards are definitely wonky somehow, and I wonder if it's one of those things that varies with the graphics card you're using. My last visit to a shard site I didn't see any falling through the ground, but something like half wound up stuck embedded in the shard after shooting them. Fortunately the SRV cargo scoop also has a very generous bounding box, so it's easy enough to fly past and pick up the material when that happens. Did get my SRV stuck on shards a couple of times when I botched the landing though.

No, I run an RTX 2070 so there shouldn't be a problem, you can tell the fragments you try and shoot off that don't appear aren't getting stuck in the landscape or bouncing out of sight because the fragments that fall off and get stuck somewhere still show up in your nav panel under contacts, the ones that appear to just vanish when you hit them never appear in your nav panel at all.

They (whoever They are) say it’s still faster than any other method to collect Raw mats... since you flew out there (30 jumps?) fill your bins up!

I think it might be a deliberate stealth nerf, cos it's a very specific percentage and it applies to all sites. You will get either 132 or 135 from all the standard sites now, exceptions being the rare huge sites, like site 1 on the antimony planet in outotz. It's too accurately done to be a coincidence. As if they wanted to ensure you can't fill up from a single site any more.

Since I picked up over 100 Technetium from one crystal spike site I can say yes it is still the fastest way to collect raw mats compared to any previous method we had. So indeed I am one of "whoever they are" so you don't need to use anonymising techniques to conceal my identity, I am quite happy for people to know it.

Some pilots say they don’t have the issue so I don’t think it’s a nerf.

I have experimented with different approaches to collecting, and it appears, but this is only a personal feeling, the longer range you shoot them from the more likely they are to disappear, but even up close some still disappear, so if it does have an effect I don't think it's the only one.

I've seen it at all ranges. I can drop mats from long range, then hit 4 or 5 in a row that poof into thin air. It seems to balance out at around 50% so I often need one more hop to get a full cache.

I'm collecting crystalline clusters - polonium at the moment. I've shot several that just disappear as if I destroyed them, never fell and don't show up on the contacts list. Last time I was here doing this I never saw this happen. It's happening now over half the time.

Is this a new nerf feature or a bug?
Are you farming by reloading the instance over and over? I thought they nerfed that if so.

Yeah i thought that was normal. Figured it was a rng chance that your laser destroyed the fragment or similar.

Its not like what jumps out when it does work looks anything like what you were shooting at so if the gamed it for gamers with rng thats it.
